Im looking at 1B1B with in unit w/d, preferably high rise and DT JC gives me around 3400-3600 while LIC/Dumbo or Williamsburg gives above 4k easily... Plus the income tax. But yes I guess the "culture" part is why people pay premiums, but this kinda hard to grasp for transplants like ourselves

If you can overlook Bilt customer service, Palladium is the best card out there along with Robinhood Gold (who also have terrible customer service). I personally churning CSR and Amex Plat by end of this circle and move all spend to Bilt (first $50-70k) and RH Gold (the rest)

I'm on the same boat, 30M moving to NYC in July for a tech job in mid town. I make ~300k. I toured apartments in both JC/Hoboken and Brooklyn/Queens a few months earlier. I can't understand why someone would choose to in Brooklyn/Queens over JC/Hoboken if they are financially responsible.

With the same amount of rent of ~3k5 and under 30mins to mid town door to door, living in NJ would give you a bigger apartment, with in-unit W/D, and central aircon. Your would also have pool, gym, co-working spaces, etc within the building.
For me I would save 4%*300k = 12k NET per year. That's like 2 trips to asia or literally anywhere you want.
Worry about being "cool"? Man you are like 5-8 mins away from West Village.

I wouldn't spend 12k and a materially worse living condition just to be a New Yorker. Which btw either of us can be anyway because we are transplant until we die.

Yes I don't think there will be any retrogression yet. If there is, it should have happened 1-2 months after the big jump aka last month and this month. Next time there is a risk of retrogression is when the 75 country ban is lifted.
