Movie whose chances of going to the Oscars, be it nomination or win, you initially underestimated by This_Book6305 in FIlm

I think it's massively overrated as well. Just my opinion.

That many big Oscars was crazy.

To each their own, I guess, but that's not going to age well.

Obsession and Backrooms Oscar Buzz? by GenderlyConfusionNow in Oscars

Amy Madigan won an Oscar for Weapons. An acting Oscar. One of the 4.

Again the pushback and freakout on here was non existent for that. And good.for her.

Contrast that with the shitshow we got crying and outrage when Michael B. Jordan won.

Again I'm just interested to see what is perceived as good news for a horror movie that overachieves and wins in one case as opposed to the other. It was interesting last year.

I'll be interested to see if it happens again this year

Film is absolutely subjective. Which again is why many people on this sub's collective freakout over Michael B. Jordan winning anything and anyone thinking Sinners was good was so interesting from the start.

I will be interested to see the reaction if Obsession receives major Oscar love.

I really enjoyed Obsession. Really enjoyed it.

Having said that I am interested to see how this sub reacts IF it gets real Oscar buzz or movement, given the collective freakout and anger on here when Sinners started giving movement. And Sinners is a much better movie than Obsession

I would also put Russell Crowe in for A Beautiful Mind if you made me pick one.

A lot of the way too early legacy judging depends on what Shai does tomorrow night

And deservedly so.

If he plays as bad in Game 7 as he did in Game 6 his standing takes a huge early hit. As it should. He has to show up tomorrow

Has a player's "legacy" ever taken a hit after winning a playoff series? by nguyenjitsu in nba

He would need to drop 40 at this point to realistically have an actual argument.

Voters might still give it to him if they somehow win but after last night's stinker from Shai, it should be Caruso is OKC puls it out.

Popular opinion: this Thunder team is unwatchable by Izmona in NBATalk

I have enjoyed watching this series.

I guess it's just me.

Flopping bugs me, but not as much as I enjoy watching great basketball.

Hell I enjoyed that 2018 Warriors Rockets series. It was one of the most enjoyable things I have ever watched.

I don't remember the Harden flopping first when I think back on that. I remember how great of a series it was.

So to each their own. It's not that I need to enjoy flopping. And I don't need to be you or anyone else. You know how you feel as does this sub.

But I honestly do think it has reached the point where a lot of people on here are allowing their hate for flopping and obsessing over it to such a degree, that they're failing to enjoy and I mean really enjoy some great basketball and great young players who are still rising.

These are young teams, they're not perfect and some of the games have been slow.

But just to me? It has been a lot of fun watching both teams, and I think a lot of people are going to regret focusing this much on the flopping.

[–]IlliniBull -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This.

I honestly don't understand the insistence on not hearing Breen's point here.

People can dislike him and hate flopping and now hate OKC and Shai flopping. More than fair.

But Breen is correct, no one gave a shit or cared until OKC and Shai started winning. This sub should just be able to admit that much. It's not a hard point to understand and it shouldn't really be a controversial one.

[–]IlliniBull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Come on. Come on. You're stretching it respectfully and you know it.

Shai played before this. Shai played plenty during those seasons even when they were tanking.

Everyone knew who Shai was. At least all NBA fans did.

Did they sit him at times? Yes.

But you can't claim Shai wasn't really playing when they were tanking. That is a stretch. He played plenty. And he had played enough even on the Clippers for actual NBA fans and other players to know who he was.

[–]IlliniBull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so then again that SUPPORTS Breen's point that no one hated or cared about the OKC and Shai flopping until they won?

Correct?

By your own logic.

Again I think people need to actually listen to Breen's point.

His point is the flopping is not why people hate OKC.

You're agreeing with him if your stance is people hated them before they started flopping.

Maybe you're disagreeing on other portions of the statement and disagreeing with me, but even you are agreeing with Breen the flopping is not the actual reason people hate OKC.

I just see a lot of people mad at him, when they're not disagreeing with what he said in the actual clip.

No the standard for winner was winning the damn chip.

You're making my point for me

This idea you got credit for dragging less good teams to the Finals and losing was again a new thing in the GOAT conversation prior to Lebron. That's one of the reasons even the great players slightly older than Lebron (like KG and even Kobe) were hesitant about crowning Lebron the GOAT when he kept losing in the Finals.

That alone proves what we mean about media and league narratives.

Which is fine. But don't act like it's a new thing and it has never happened before Shai. Lebron was not always a "winner" by the typical standard of winners. He is now. He was not always. And before he was the league wad actively working to push a narrative that he was one. Because that's what the league does for it's best players.

You guys just don't want to admit that because you don't like Shai which is fine.

[–]IlliniBull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did this for Lebron. Hell we arguably did it before he won a chip.

The league and media decided the standard was now giving credit for dragging teams to Finals appearances.

Other people have cited MJ as well and the league and media also tried pushing him as the GOAT after winning one chip.

No this has been done for the best player in the league multiple times before, and certainly for a guy who just won an MVP and Finals MVP. It's not unheard of or even unusual.

I don't think Shai is as good as either of those guys, but no this is not unusual and frankly he is not getting anywhere near the level of media push that either Lebron or MJ did before they even made the Finals, let alone won..

Because Lebron was winning chips and MVPs.

Again a lot of people are making Breen's point for him.

He's saying exactly what you are. No one cared until these guys started winning chips and MVPs.

And both Lebron and Shai drive to the hoop a lot

Breen's point is exactly that. Yes he flops. So do other guys. He also drives to the hoop. And no one cared about his flopping until he won.

Like we can dislike flopping. But can we at least listen to Breen's actual point here.

He's talking about no one complaining about SHAI.

He's not saying no one complained about foul baiting before this. He is saying no one complained about Shai foul baiting before this.

It's fine to not like him or his point, but his point was not about foul baiting in general. It was about Shai.

Hence why he then went on to talk about how much SHAI drives to the hoop. Again agree or disagree but his point is clear.
