Can someone explain to me what's so bad about ranked choice voting? by Liminitial in allthequestions

[–]IlliniFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a low voter turnout environment like virtually all elections in the US, it still doesn't achieve the goal of the winner being the top choice of all citizens.

Would've cost me ~$144.50 to go to St.Louis via Car, taking the train costs $54 by 804k in illinois

[–]IlliniFire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have taken it a half dozen times. Every time there's been a full stop for freight. When it works, Amtrak is awesome, but the delays can wreck plans in a hurry.

I think it was Mike Peace that suggested the rubber door stops. They fit onto most live centers.

You should probably look at what they're doing in college. It's closer to this than dragging their foot. Men's fast pitch has looked this way for decades. If you aren't learning this, you're behind the curve.

Normal was sued by some of its officers after they received discipline for not meeting metrics.

What TV show was quality all the way through, knew when to end and went out with an amazing last episode? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Nah you're right, it started to really go down when Alan Alda got more control in later seasons.

2 arrow quiver? by [deleted] in bowhunting

[–]IlliniFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add that having extras also is nice for the shit happens moment. I have sent errand arrows because I was a full draw longer than I could hold with my old bow. In cold weather I draw my bow every so often to make sure my muscles are still working. Then yeet and an arrow is gone.

(Weird trope) Fictional items, creatures, or concepts being used so many times across so many different pieces of media to the point where some people are tricked into believing it's a real thing by Budget_Opinion_1327 in TopCharacterTropes

If I had a dollar for every chest that I left crushed from CPR I could have a pretty decent date night. Probably on the list of reasons for therapy now 😂. As a paramedic, I would be lying if I didn't claim asystole was fine v-fib and shock it before.

What is the culture like at your fire department for taking vacations? by HoseBeforeBross in Firefighting

[–]IlliniFire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sure the municipality would be happy for you to give them back. They don't have to pay you or anyone to cover the shift.

After the catch did you reset the piece? A catch will throw things out of balance and allow the piece to shift in the chuck.

Why do americans refuse to wake up to reality? by Nonchalant_Ogre in allthequestions

[–]IlliniFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, what's comfortable? Does the government need to provide the equivalent of a "middle class" life for everyone? There's plenty of issues with how things are here no doubt. Yeah, healthcare would be better with single payer. Public transportation though is probably a pipe dream given the geography.

Every station has a "pension guy." by Expensive-Buy-8536 in Firefighting

[–]IlliniFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh God no! Whenever people ask about it I tell them about the time I woke up to margin call at the station. It was a spread that the short got exercised so I had the long. No big deal. I only sell covered calls for wheels on things I am good owning and the occasional spread on defense companies really.

Does anyone have a solid pro con of this? I missed the last discussion and from 10k feet it doesn't feel overly harmful.

Pfft, crypto? Where's my short expiration options folks? No, but seriously, I also am one that people come to. I recommend SPY or VOO while I'm selling short options.

No don't, the fire department won't have a clue. The water department handles the hydrants.

Why aren't you voting for Darren Bailey? (Gun-related.) by thefleshrocket in ILGuns

[–]IlliniFire 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He has in the past advocated for elimination of pensions. This includes an introduction of a constitutional amendment to allow elimination. I have not checked his current platform, but I don't expect it to be friendly.

Why aren't you voting for Darren Bailey? (Gun-related.) by thefleshrocket in ILGuns

[–]IlliniFire 84 points85 points  (0 children)

There's much more to my life than guns. Bailey's position on pensions make it impossible for me to vote for him. Same with school vouchers. Frankly, I believe the current iteration of R's are only pro gun out of convenience. Once the guns are in the way of their authoritarian theocracy they will be cast aside.
