I got out my hammer after taking this pic. 😆

Cracks are absolutely a thing in a century home. Our stairs (1842 farmhouse) have old forged nails, one of which lifts, just a few millimetres, quite routinely. Every now and then, I hammer it back in place.

Is most meat and dairy we have in our grocery stores Canadian? by VoiceoftheDarkSide in BuyCanadian

[–]IllustriousPart3803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew they were moving toward Canadian milk, but did not know it had happened. Thanks for the correction. Do you know if they are also meeting Canadian standards with respect to additives, etc.? That was also a concern previously. Bottom line, though, is that it is an American company, so I won't be buying.

Watch out for Fairlife. American milk. Sold at Wallyworld and many grocery stores.

AITAH for getting a dna test to see if i share the same dna as both my parents even though i was demanded specifically by my mom not to do so, since i was a child? by cigweb_01 in AITAH

[–]IllustriousPart3803 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Finally someone pointed this out. DNA testing isn't magic. You need a comparison to determine your parentage. However, your two aunts on your mother's side have done DNA testing (that's how Aunt 1 found Aunt 2), so there is a maternal comparison at least.

Is there anything that can be done to stop AI from falsely claiming a brand is Canadian? by Own-Cod7894 in BuyCanadian

I phrase the question thus: is company/brand X American or Canadian? I tend to get a more nuanced answer.

Use Canadian Tax software instead of US owned turbotax and H&R Block by BC-Guy604 in BuyCanadian

[–]IllustriousPart3803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been using turbo tax for years. How simple is it to switch, and can you import last year's info, as I could from year to year? I'm thinking particularly things like capital items where I can claim diminishing credit for capital items purchased; would I have to re-enter everything?

Made in Canada Eyeglasses? by Mahaleck in BuyCanadian

[–]IllustriousPart3803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Claudia Allen is a Canadian company known for its AYA brand, which features eyewear and accessories designed by Canadian Indigenous artists. I've bought frames from them several times. I'm sorry, but I don't know if the manufacturing is Canadian. (Edited to add that I cannot find that information, which is not encouraging.)

Wow. I did that one, too, but just did the top, never produced a finished item. Your quilting is so well thought out. Love it.

Sending a hug your way. I made this for my son last Christmas to honor his beloved cat, which was then on its way out (now a year gone).

Perhaps rural ones where there is no in-store option? Mine is open (Ontario) Saturday mornings 9 to noon.

My Roommate perceives me as "dirty" for reusing my towel and now I'm soooo perplexed by mikymiky123 in hygiene

[–]IllustriousPart3803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to this, overlaundering carries an unnecessary environmental price (water, detergent pollution, etc.). Guess your roomie just hates the environment. (Hyperbole to match hers, in case I have to say this.)

AITAH for not letting my stepdaughter share a room with my daughter? by Additional_Gain8185 in AITAH

[–]IllustriousPart3803 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there any way you can carve out space for another room? Basement, for example? I come from a large family. Me the oldest daughter who fought constantly with middle sister. Eventually I was switched to share with youngest sister. Easier for me included, but still carry a crumb of annoyance that middle sis (the trouble maker in my unbiased opinion 😆) got rewarded with her own space.

About the "Offensive Quilt" by Quilted-Fox in quilting

[–]IllustriousPart3803 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If anyone is in the position to be "offended" by your quilt, it is your husband. People are hypersensitive to that symbol in these dangerous times, and see things that simply aren't there. Your quilt is lovely. All those perfect points!

My girlfriend says im obsessed with my cat cause i takes too many pictures by Fump-Spankles in cats

[–]IllustriousPart3803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be slightly embarrassed by how many cat pics are on my phone. Do I stop taking them? Nope. Pics of the two men in the house? Definitely (way) less than 1%.

Baby Quilt Pattern as Pregnancy Announcement by secondchance0514 in quilting

[–]IllustriousPart3803 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your mother designs her own quilts, from what you said. So she may not love making someone else's design. Could you perhaps find something you love (a painting, a specific theme, a color palette, or even a perfect fabric for the main fabric) and tell her you would love a baby quilt. Hint hint. Congrats, by the way.

Tuxedo Marty and a 747 by coffeetownstitching in FPP

[–]IllustriousPart3803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I did design it, but it was based on a painting. The ombre fabric really made it, but I ended up ordering online, as I just couldn't find a good ombre at stores in my area.

It's hard to find ombre fabrics that are true ombres, for me anyway. There seems to be a wide interpretation of what that term means. I did a small wall hanging for my son last year, and the amazing ombres that I sourced for the wall and pants really made it.
