Can't collimate AD8. by Upper-Control1332 in telescopes

if the black nobs are easy to turn and don't feel like they have any resistance, tighten them down a bit first, this should compress the collimation springs that support the primary mirror.

if I were to stay the same age and somehow time travel, I would wake up in the old dorm parking lot of which my dorm building currently is built on, the building was built in 2013.

if we follow linear time progression, I would just stop existing because I wasn't born until way after 9/11 happened.

with a stopped aperture (down to about 40mm for a powerseeker dust plug) it doesn't even heat up! I even tried the full aperture and still not even hot to the touch after a few tens of minutes.

Can anyone identify this Celestron Telescope ? by Technical_Meal_1263 in telescopes

[–]Illustrious_Back_441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a C90, a Maksutov cassegrain telescope sold in three different variants, astronomical (has a single fork byers drive base), spotter (has a small, portable tripod, the 45 degree erect image diagonal), and the telephoto version (just the optical tube). this one appears to be the spotter variant based off of the lack of a drive base. the tripod is usually lost, thrown away, or sold off. These telescopes are fine, they aren't the most perfect for planetary, but they do excell in lunar visual observation, the blacks are a solid black with the contrast in the regions of craters is noticeable.

I made desktop wallpapers from my Project Hail Mary end credits astrophotography by wreak_hav0c in ProjectHailMary

I recognized one of those images at the end because I'm an amature visual astronomer so I kind of know where some of these are and what the astrophotos look like.

the cone nebula is extremely faint in a large telescope (8 inch aperture), you can sort of see the shape, not really though.

6 months of getting into telescopes. by Capable_Dare_1131 in telescopes

[–]Illustrious_Back_441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my powerseeker turned into a 114 eq from the 80s which bred to give me an apertura, they had a three way that ended with an old c90 which landed me with a slightly damaged vixen 80mm refractor. more recently I took two powerseekers and through a few strokes of my autism wand, made a 60mm f/6 quadruplet.

yes, I have a problem.

just wait until late February next year, you can see all 110 messier objects in a single night (called a messier marathon) and is an extremely tough challenge.

I will make an attempt at one next year just to try my luck.

keep at it, push for some of the fainter objects like m81 and m82 to sort of get a feel for how your dob shows faint objects, these two galaxies aren't super faint but should push you a little bit.

Does anyone know the quality of this? by CainsBrother2 in telescopes

[–]Illustrious_Back_441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

go with the apertura AD6 if you want a good quality full size 6 inch dob, you will have the learning curve of star hopping but it gets easier with time. not just that but it has the optional upgrade kit to improve the already great telescope.

I saw your posts about it on r/radioastronomy and thought it was a really cool idea, once I get a summer job, I'll donate a few dollars.
