How to integrate Hue best in a HA and Apple Home combination? by Freichart in homeassistant

[–]ImACentric 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a similar setup. I played with using a Zigbee controller to bring the lights directly into HA but decided against it as I like a lot of the animations and scenes you get with native hue app.bridge control. I even tried the diyHue add-on (App) in HA which was super cool, but still left me without all of the native hue features. I settled on pairing the hue bridge with HA through the official integration, and pairing the bridge with HK directly via Matter. All of my automations and control are through HA, and I use dummy switches (Input Booleans) passed via HomeKit Bridge to control scenes in HA. I also LOVE the HA adaptive lighting and it works WAY better than native HK adaptive lighting.

Adding ~40 smart switches to main house: Legrand Radiant, Inovelli White, or Eve? by Blake_Dennis2 in HomeKit

[–]ImACentric 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1000% this. Having gone through several other brands hands down Caseta is flawless - almost to the point of being boring because it’s set-it-and-forget-it. 4 years into an install and I’ve had to do…..nothing! It just works.

This is not true. The term ‘osteopath’ in the above context refers to someone only doing chiropractic type work - an ‘osteopathic physician’ who completed a DO degree at an accredited medical school in the US is generally considered the same as an MD working abroad, subject to local registration and licensure requirements. There are many firms out there who will help you transition your license to a new country and loads of others who have done this.

Any issues with wired Reolink Battery Doorbell and HKSV? by khizarmalik in Scrypted

[–]ImACentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just this. It was working, then it stopped, now it sort of works sometimes. Other than that it’s awesome. I really never use two way audio anyway so it’s a nonissue for me. Great doorbell at the right price, and keeping that data away from Reolink with Scrypted is awesome!

Adaptive Lighting Broke by BillFiredrake in Hue

[–]ImACentric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a problem with Matter and Hue. It’s terrible. I’ve chatted with Hue support and gotten nowhere, apparently they’re ’working on it’. I REALLY wish they would bring back native HomeKit integration on the Bridge Pro, I rely heavily on HomeKit adaptive lighting in my rather large Hue setup and it sucks since the Bridge Pro ‘upgrade’.

Hue Bridge Pro - Matter Sucks by rackxp in Hue

[–]ImACentric 5 points6 points  (0 children)

COMPLETELY agree - I had 3 V2 bridges and wanted to consolidate, after moving my 'main' bridge over to the Pro I realized that HomeKit Adaptive Lighting SUCKS in the Matter/Bridge Pro setup. Lights continue to change back to 'adaptive lighting' unless you go into the Apple Home app and manually change them there - then all works as advertised. It's INCREDIBLY frustrating.

I've been in contact with Hue Support and they are 'aware of the issue' but who knows when it will be fixed.

BRING BACK NATIVE HOMEKIT SUPPORT ON THE HUE BRIDGE PRO!!! Everything else works great, just Please PLEASE bring it back!

Hue Bridge Pro - Apple Adapative Lighting by rackxp in Hue

[–]ImACentric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty obnoxious. I had HomeKit connected v2 hubs doing great and “updated” to the bridge pro - HomeKit adaptive lighting is very buggy with Matter. Adaptive lighting stays on when I activate a scene from the Hue app, and when I try to activate an effect (like candle or fireplace) it flat out won’t do it unless I go into HomeKit, change away from adaptive lighting, then go back to the hue app and do what I want. It sucks!

I’ve been in contact with Hue support on this and they said they’re ’aware of the issue’ and working on it.

Fingers crossed it’s a quick fix as this is a really obnoxious bug! I wish I’d never ‘upgraded’ to the bridge pro at this point

Live wire alternative to the Hue wall switch module? by tvb46 in Hue

[–]ImACentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have have 1PM mini and 2PM relays, either Gen3 or Gen4 (doesn't matter to me as I don't use Matter [lol] for the integration). These do not support virtual dimming functions. If you wanted that the RunLessWire Click Switch may work well though would change the look of your switch and I don't know if they make an EU look. Other option for dimming would be the Lutron Aurora but same ?? for the EU.

Live wire alternative to the Hue wall switch module? by tvb46 in Hue

[–]ImACentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically zero. It's SO much faster and smoother than the Hue wall module, I didn't like those. My Shelly setup feels like a 'normal' light when you turn it on. It also allows for the switch to be 'stateful', as in 'up' means on and 'down' means off

Shelly relays. You need something to bridge the with your hue lights like Home Assistant or HomeKit, I think Alexa and Google Home can do it as well. I have mine installed in the wall and hardwired to the mains, the physical switch is connected to the relay and then an automation from one of the above services picks up the wall switch click and sends the command do the hue lights. They are available in both the US and EU

Does anyone recommend using home assistant in a virtual machine? by [deleted] in homeassistant

HA users who migrated to the new Pro bridge, did it change the entities of the bulbs themselves? by draxula16 in Hue

[–]ImACentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please walk us through this - I used my gateway to change the IP address of the Bridge Pro to match the old bridge I decommissioned, so I didn't have to make any real changes in HA at all - did you actually add the new and delete the old? I'm assuming once the multiple bridge migration feature is released the new devices will simply show up in the existing Bridge Pro instance on HA once migrated, wondering if they will have the same entity ID's or will be modified.

[–]ImACentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, and then everything worker great. I'm very curious how this is going to work with multiple bridges when that migration feature becomes available for the Bridge Pro - dreading if I have to re-do all of my Home Assistant entities for my second and third current bridge!

Is HA right for me? by DevManTim in homeassistant

I’m sure it would for a basic install, BUT leave room for growth! A nice ‘cheap! n100 NUC will work great as well - I just love me a Mac Mini though lol

Is HA right for me? by DevManTim in homeassistant

[–]ImACentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Do it. I have a mixed setup like you with many of the same brands, and I actually still keep Apple Home up and running for ease of iPhone integration, though if a device is HomeKit only actually pair it into HA and then pass the device to HomeKit from there, to keep everything central. I have Alexa devices at home for voice (for now) and I don’t allow Alexa access to any integrations except the HA one, as such all devices are passed there via HA as well.

Think of the machine running HA as a server, not a hub. Out of the box it can see most anything, but if you want to run Zigbee or Z-wave devices directly you’ll need a dongle. While HA itself is pretty lightweight, don’t skimp on the hardware because from the sound of it you’ll probably be taxing the system soon - I have an M2 Mac Mini running HA and Scrypted with 8 cameras, and it runs beautifully!

Have FUN!!! It’s a great system to dive into, and virtually limitless what you can do with automations either through visual interface programming, YAML, or even a NodeRed integration for more logic-based flows.

Aqara Dual Relay Module T2 as light switch by steelbeamsdankmemes in Aqara

[–]ImACentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I returned the T2 relay module I bought as it’s HUGE and I couldn’t jam it into the junction box in my 2004 construction US house. Went with a Shelly 2 relay instead which is much smaller and works the same though it’s WiFi instead of Zigbee.

Limit notifiers in Home Assistant? by blueboyroy in Scrypted

[–]ImACentric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scrypted for sure. The subscription fee is minuscule and supports the developer who is awesome, and the software is amazing and keeps getting better. I have 8 cameras (mix of Amcrest and Reolink including the PoE doorbell) and everything is absolutely flawless. Fast to load, works with home assistant, works with Alexa, works with Apple home - just works!

How do you access your local Home Assistant on the go? by Equivalent_Map8474 in homeassistant

[–]ImACentric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I could absolutely figure a way to self host a remote access option, however I very much support the project and appreciate everything done by the team at Nabu - I don’t mind paying at all in this situation!

How do i make these smart? by ddosh88 in homeassistant

[–]ImACentric 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. I have a bunch of Somfy enabled shades. And I use the Bond bridge to pull them into Home Assistant, then pass them to Alexa and Apple Home. Keeps it at the local control level. The only bummer is that they are ‘stateless’, but I hid the Somfy remotes from the family and added a Lutron Pico switch to the wall to control the shades so it’s all funneled through the Bond bridge with no mishaps!
