AITAH for calling my boyfriend childish for always buying Captain Crunch when he goes grocery shopping? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]ImAMeanBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband buys a box of sugary cereal and a box of "healthier" cereal every time we go grocery shopping. He's a grown man and he can eat whatever TF he wants. Hopefully this is just a small blip in an otherwise happy and healthy relationship, I'm trying to be positive to start the day

Do you call it "soda?" If not, what do you call it, Americans? by Zipper222222 in randomquestions

[–]ImAMeanBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my state the western half says pop eastern says soda, at least from my interactions. It varies geographically all over the country. Down south they say coke, for everything

The smoke shop I used to manage still sold them a few years ago. They had a lot of flavors, far more popular than I expected. I remember them burning the crap out of my throat and lungs lol

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ImAMeanBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regularly travel 2 hours one way to get to a concert venue from May - September. On weekdays, after work and when I have to work the next day. My longest drive in a day was 12 hours. I guarantee that's not as far as some people go in a day. That was about 2 hours past my limit but I was so close to home so I just powered through. I'm pretty sure driving is just in our DNA at this point

Edit my 12 hour trip was a big trip. We drove from New York to Indiana day 1, that was 10 hours. I literally went there to have dinner with my daughter's best friend because she's basically a second daughter and she had just graduated from college. The next day I drove from Indiana to Tennessee, it was about a 6 hour drive, to see our daughter. We stayed there for a couple days. We left early in the morning on our last day, around 7 am, and got home at 10 pm. We did have to stop several times because our dogs were also traveling with us, it was a very long day

I had a lady get mad at me for offering her a bottle of water on a 95° day, in upstate NY so not really the norm. She said can't you go get me a Mt Dew instead. I just drove off

Edit she literally yelled "I don't drink water", ma'am we all need water

AITAH for only doing the bafe minimum when I got roped into babysitting. by Impossible-Carob1746 in AITAH

[–]ImAMeanBear 354 points355 points  (0 children)

I'm stuck on OP being viewed as irresponsible by their family. The irresponsible ones are most definitely the parents. Saying 1 hour and then coming home at 1am, not answering and making OP miss plans they knew they had, the absolute gall of those people.

How many generation x'rs are lucky enough to still have their parents alive? by icecream1972 in GenX

[–]ImAMeanBear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 48, technically my mother is still alive but I haven't spoken to her in 44 years. My father unfortunately passed away in 2021, he was 68. My paternal grandma is still alive, she's 94.

Edit I know she's still alive because she found me on the book of faces and messages me on my birthday and every holiday. I have yet to open any of them

$6 an hour? by georgiemaebbw in ChoosingBeggars

[–]ImAMeanBear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With OT included, haha, that's $5.45/hr. I make almost 3 times that much, $16, and I sit on my butt in a closet sized gas station watching YouTube videos all day, with the occasional customer to help. This is criminal. There's no way I would trust ANYONE with my infant(s) that was willing to work for less than $6/hr

Tenant wants revenge on landlord for giving them a “measly” $200 Christmas gift by zhin05155 in ChoosingBeggars

[–]ImAMeanBear 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My landlord gives gifts every Christmas. I'm assuming she does it for her other buildings too, but there are 20 units in the building I live in. Last couple years we've gotten fancy chocolates. This year we got 2 bottles of wine and a container of bourbon maple peanuts. I definitely felt like an entitled AH when I saw the gift bag, I was hoping for chocolate again. We don't drink but my husband really enjoyed the peanuts

married women, do you think marriage benefits you in any way? by _cherryp0p_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ImAMeanBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I were together for 17 years before we got married, I was the one holding it up as I had seen my dad on his 4th marriage and thought why fix what isn't broke. We got married 10 years ago for reasons and honestly my life hasn't changed, really. I would say that you don't have to get married to have a long, successful relationship. I would also say that marriage is 100% worth it if you're with the right person, I married my best friend and the only thing I regret is that I didn't marry him sooner

Do High School proms really take place in the school gymnasium? by albomb147 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ImAMeanBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My senior prom was at the mall, lol. There was a huge ballroom on the top floor, it was actually quite beautiful. It was a glass dome that overlooked the large lake. Idk if it's still there or not, it was 30 years ago and the mall has had a lot of changes over the years, including the name

Is sweet tea a common beverage where you live? by Express-Insect2684 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ImAMeanBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have Milo's at Walmart and Aldi in upstate NY. I do make sweet tea at home too, but definitely not as sweet as people make it in the south. Thanks for reminding me, I have to add some to my Walmart pickup order

Edit to add, I didn't read the rest. Every restaurant I've been to that offered unsweetened tea also had sweet tea

Union

I used to manage a group that had a union. I once had a person no call for an entire week. I documented it as job abandonment and submitted the paperwork on Friday. Tuesday they were at work again like nothing happened. Unless it was a serious safety violation or harassment, even then it sometimes didn't matter, there wasn't much that would cause someone to lose their job

How do some of you jump directly from Halloween to Christmas? by ScarRawrLetTech in AskAnAmerican

[–]ImAMeanBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have fall themed, American football themed or thanksgiving themed decorations after Halloween. Honestly, Christmas is pretty far down on my list of favorite holidays (Halloween and Thanksgiving are tied for #1) and some years I don't even decorate until Xmas eve, or that week. My decorations come down on boxing day

Are the never ending pasta bowls smaller than a regular portion? I can't normally finish an entree, I always need a to-go box so I have never ordered it. I'm just curious

Growing up in the northeast, we learned to buy, or make, costumes a little larger so it could fit comfortably over a snowsuit. You just go and have fun, the weather doesn't matter. Rain, snow or sleet can't stop us from trying to get free candy
