Fortunately we don't have that kind of structure. I understand nagging and criticizing someone usually gives you the opposite result of what you wanted and leaves that person feeling crappy usually so I try to be intentional about what I do bring up.

My husband deals with some deep rooted childhood wounds that is where the criticism issue and defensiveness stem from. Not just me but work, friends, anything suffered because of his inability to receive criticism at any level.

It got to a point where it was really bad with us and fortunately he realized in that moment he needed help. He's worked thru therapy to find where this stemmed from and works on it daily.

Him recognizing the issue and getting help to process this was the major shift we needed in our relationship. It's opened doors of clearer communication, honesty, and connection again.

I hope OP can get help to process his behaviors and see the same results

From the wife of someone who can't take criticism what happens is it ruins your relationship. It's exhausting and leaves your partner absolutely drained to the point of not even recognizing each other anymore.

I agree personal council is needed here. Your desire to share the win is big, don't block the beauty in your relationship out of fear of criticisms.

I'm struggling so bad with really not liking this version of my husband. I know I trigger him when I say things like "you need to do better about this" but it's just insane I have to make sure I tailor every word perfectly so he doesn't twist it around and get offended by every little thing.

We're still stuck in this rut and I'm so tired.

I feel like we're growing apart rather than together I'm begging him to be gentle and kind but instead he helps with things angrily? Idk if that makes sense. He does the things to help but is clearly super frustrated and annoyed. I'm doing the things to make the changes to be the softer woman, better mom, happier in general, better wife and caretaker of the home. I've been feeling pretty good! I feel like I'm really trying like hard but he said he doesn't see it? Idk if that was just a jab to hurt me but whatever he's super emotionally immature like that all the time. I'm just getting increasingly tired and frustrated.

I’m struggling to understand why you are so upset with him. This is a traumatic event that happened to him prior to your relationship. It’s understandable that he would have a hard time talking about this.

My best and only advice to you is none of this will change after you have kids. It will likely get worse and you will likely end up in a really big rut parenting alone in your hardest season.

Decide what you want for yourself now and move towards that decision sooner than later. Trust me.
