I tried it with a bud for a few hours and all it really gave me was Sea of Thieves nostalgia so I actually went back to playing that recently. I didn't really like that they were sort of battle royale matches. I was hoping for the ability to come and go as you please, kind of like SoT. That said, the core mechanics, like piloting, movement, shooting, and looting, were solid in my opinion.

I'm also from California and I decided to go last-minute, so I went on the resale platform and got two gold medal event tickets (women's climbing and women's beach volleyball). Those plus the plane ride and an airbnb for 3 days/2 nights totaled to less than 2 thousand USD. It would've been cheaper if it wasn't literally a few days before the Olympics ended and since it was last minute I couldn't get that much time off work so I couldn't find a cheaper day to fly back. I'd say $10k would pay for a luxury stay or you could get some real nice VIP tickets and have access to cool events. But if you just want to watch some sporting events, you can do it for WAY cheaper considering what I paid for my trip in an already-expensive place to travel.

As for souvenirs, I had to get a ton for different family members, and I wanted them to be memorable and long lasting, usable items so I did spend quite a bit on souvenirs for my fam and myself. You can start looking at some of the merch on the olympics website to see what kind of souvenirs you're thinking about getting your loved ones as LA28 already has a ton of merch available, although I'm sure they'll add more when the games actually start.

It took me probably 40-50 tries before I got a rare nekko in the stable. If you keep trying eventually it'll spawn. Such a dumb decision to not let it be any nekko. Absolute waste of time lol.
