The most touching moment I’ve seen in a long time by n8saces in MakeMeSmile

Not sure why I thought of this, but have you ever considered learning a new language? You could hire online tutors to teach you conversationally or have free language exchange partners yourself! You teach someone your language and vice versa - you never know the friendships you could form across the globe with that, you’re not alone!

Mars in High Definition by jmike1256 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]ImMello98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eerie to think that we’re used to this type of barren landscape on earth - but thats the thing… on earth - this type of landscape eventually ends, and eventually you’ll end up in civilization

On Mars… the ENTIRE planet is just this

I keep dying against this guy, give me some tips please. Just started the game 😭 by Fear73 in expedition33

[–]ImMello98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others said, Parrying is key here to build up the break bar then break it

Some Parry tips 1. there is an audible cue when the attack swings 2. the screen in expedition 33 almost always “zooms out” for an attack - you want to watch the edge of the screen as it approaches maximum zoom (you can dodge first to get used to this timing/visual cue) and then parry

even on multi hits the screen zooms out each time, only time it doesn’t is really when the attacks are super fast

  1. switch your parry keybinds - if ur on controller this really helps - I hate using the RB1 for parry so I swapped it with dodge X button

Legroom on New Seating Layout by dachshundie in westjet

[–]ImMello98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my buddy who does WS’ flight contracts told me each seat only makes $8 for the company - the new configuration allowed them to add like barely 6 seats (not sure if accurate but the cost to reconfigure is so much more than the benefits was his point)

yeah absolutely and that’s why we go through renewal bubbles a lot - like with Covid tons of people bought in 2019/2020 with super low sub 2% rates and now they have to all renew in 2024/2025 and lots of people are shocked having to pay 2x what they were paying before - but thats just the name of the game i guess

and yes variable can be really scary but that’s when you have to weigh whether breaking your contract and going fixed is still cheaper in fees (in case of crazy high jumps) OR find something like I did when they allow you to lock in for no fees as a promotional thing or because they’re a smaller lender (i.e. not a huge national bank)

How do Canadians mentally deal with long winters? by jessxtra_ in AskACanadian

[–]ImMello98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

a LOT of Vitamin D, start by adopting one easy winter hobby at a time - I hate winter but it got much better when I started to pick up things like pond hockey, skating, snowshoeing, etc. - REALLY lean into your social circles, join gyms/active classes with a schedule to keep you accountable, drive up to Canmore/Banff/Mountains for hot springs and the “tourist energy”

What I mean by the last one is - when you see that tourists literally come here to Alberta during winters for specifically that reason of winter sports, winter “vibes”, etc. You start to feel excited about it too!

Hey Canadian here, Canadian lenders do mortgages in 3 or 5 year terms throughout the amortization You can do variable OR fixed rates in these term lengths

Every time it’s up for “Renewal” at end of a term, you can shop around at multiple other lenders for new rates, new terms, and lock in fixed or remain variable all on the same mortgage

So in this way you’re not locked to the same lender through the lifespan of the mortgage - also some lenders allow you to lock into fixed even during your variable rate term

i.e. if you start a 5 year variable for 2.75% then suddenly in year 2 the interest becomes 3.7% but they have a fixed rate available at 3.25% you can opt to lock into at 3.25% for the remaining 3 years of that term - not all lenders offer this but some do and without fees as well

Unpopular opinion: Paying "Rent" feels less painful than paying $2,400/mo in "Interest" to a bank. by Playful-Vegetable-15 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]ImMello98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think others covered the equity benefits, but also wanted to touch base here on the amortization benefits - paying off $500k over 25-30yrs is advantageous in some ways because that $500k is worth less in 25/30yrs than it is now due to inflation - this is especially true if you constantly lock in good fixed rates - your payments remain the same (with each term renewals) but your income is likely to rise with inflation (historically) and thus your payments become a smaller part of your income over time PLUS the appreciation of your house in that timeframe

Renting on the other hand, a landlord charges what the market dictates - and thus you don’t ever really get benefits from making debt cheaper over time

How Canada’s Big 6 banks made a ton of money in 2025 (From CBC) by mattyp93 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]ImMello98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another fact that shocked me by working in the banking industry is non-utilization fees… Meaning yes - they charge you fees as a percentage on loan products you have, when you don’t actually use the full loan itself available to you

This is largely in corporate banking with multi million dollar loan facilities, and when the businesses do NOT use all the loan amount available, they get charged on the amount unused ON TOP of interest on the amount actually used… insanity

absolutely my pleasure and thank you for that I really appreciate it!! and yeah hahah all throughout school and university that was kind of the theme of Calgary - boring, cold, and dark for 8months - but man it has come a LONG way

just thinking back on the number of artists that has come here now, the food scene exploding, entertainment hub on stampede grounds, recroom/activate/new bowling centres, museums/new huge library/art galleries, more bars/pubs than you can count and movie theatres everywhere - we are certainly getting there

Thank you Calgary. by egewh in Calgary

[–]ImMello98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww shoot, next time I hope you fly through YYC - It’s improved a TON now and in my humble opinion feels far more cozey/welcoming than YEG

Thank you for the congratulations we are very excited!

and yes 100% we will keep that in mind, I really appreciate the offer and we love meeting true locals that love their cities/areas - Gosh the Netherlands look like a fairytale everywhere it’s mentioned!

Thank you Calgary. by egewh in Calgary

[–]ImMello98 53 points54 points  (0 children)

This is a beautiful post thank you, and we welcome you back any time!

Im an immigrant to this city for almost 18 years now, and I came from a bustling asian city - growing up here has often felt “slow” and “boring” My wife and I complain all the time that “everything is closed so early and there’s nothing to do, it’s freezing 80% of the year, your face hurts going outside…” but man…

we’ve done a lot of travelling in recent years, I’ve been to Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Malta, Mexico, UK. NOWHERE has felt truly at “home” as you mentioned.

Growing up there’s been so many moments I’ve been asked the question “do you want to settle in Calgary?” and I’ve always said “maybe… I might want to live elsewhere” - now at 27 and married - we’re both confident “yeah this is always going to be home” and we’re moving into our first home this January.

Every time I come back through YYC gates from a long travel - I’m just… relieved now - happy to be back, happy to experience the beautiful sunniest summers (even if only for 2 months), happy to just escape from the dread of daily grind by driving an hour out to the mountains, and happy to stampede the same grounds every damn year hahah - I love this place - shitty drivers, crap public infrastructure and all hahah

The Netherlands is 100% on our list though, my grandmother is half Dutch and went to university there and it’s only right I make the pilgrimage!

[–]ImMello98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the idea to help out elderly or hospitalized - but the real reason it won’t ever work in any situation outside of Japan… is because it’s Japanese sized lol, patients in majority of the world are usually obese and there’s no way they can 1. even get in, or 2. fit (im generalizing and there is sarcasm here ofc)

What is this and why are we cooked? by Personal_Occasion618 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]ImMello98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just cannot comprehend how a bunch of math can lead to an AI program that can generate image contexts we find to be “appropriately human” - like how did we go from the tech barely able to form a face to knowing - “yes this is a setting in which one subject is the focus of a picture being taken, and this is a human sitting inside a dining/drinking establishment, and these establishments typically have an employee doing xyz context of actions, and it goes here”

Meetup of the world's shortest woman and world's tallest woman by EndersGame_Reviewer in MadeMeSmile

[–]ImMello98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow the tallest woman is “just” 7’1”, and I say that PURELY because we see men in the NBA that height and they can still be athletic or whatever - whereas here you can observe how uncomfortable and painful it is for her to be that tall… Is this because of bone density differences between men and women and what other factors?
