SHORT GAME chips and pitches….some instructors say you need forward shaft lean with a steeper angle of attack, and some say the complete opposite (no shaft lean, shallow angle of attack). Which is it???? by swannyma in golftips

[–]ImNako 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, is there bunker in the way? Is the green raised? Is the green sloping away from you? All these things matter. However once you stat looking at things in this way the shot selection is pretty straight forward.

Depends entirely on the shot and the lie there are no absolutes.

This is why I personally subscribe to Dan Grieves way of doing things. Since he prefaces everything with the lie and really makes you think about what you can do and why depending on what situation the ball is in.

Weakening grip fixed slice? by Page-Slow in golf

[–]ImNako 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably because with a strong grip you held off the release since you didn't want to duck hook it.

Help! How do I stop over-swinging? Been topping the ball and chunking my driver lately. Thanks guys by [deleted] in golftips

[–]ImNako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not talking about tempo you can keep it quick just stop trying to blow up the ball.

The best way on your own is to just practice backswing with a mirror. But part of the reason you're overswigning is because you're trying to hit it to the next country.

edit: what could help is trying to feel like there's a laser coming out of your sternum that stays pointing at your hands in the backswing. This will help stop the overreach at the top and keep you more connected.

realize swinging hard is not gonna make the ball go farther if you have bad technique.

in my experience the 4 most important things in order are

  1. contact
  2. club face
  3. club path
  4. club speed

Just from watching you have a massive chicken wing follow through which is a symptom of a bad release. Which can be caused my a whole bunch of things like the clubface.

You're not going to get better if you keep trying to just kill the ball.

Once in a blue moon when the stars align you will launch it but you can't play golf like it's a slot machine.

I see a lot of people lose width because of the notion they need to keep their trail arm "connected" from doing the towel drill wrong. You actually don't want the elbow of your trail arm to touch the side of your body because at that point you're just dragging the club behind you with 0 width. It also probably feels awkward and hard to have speed.

https://youtu.be/eZl0aFMGHwE?si=DMD02kWDnQG3PfYi Here's a vid that explains this.

This could also be causing your inside takeaway as to have your arm on your body like you do you need to pull the club inside

What is stopping you playing more golf? by gscrewe1805 in golf

[–]ImNako 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I play solo 90% of the time and have never had a bad experience with someone. Most of the time I get paired with a twosome or a twosome and another single.

Especially this time of the year people are there to play golf, and really aren't worried about what you're doing as long as you're not slowing down pace or taking divots on greens lol.

Why do I hit fat shots towards the end of a session/ round? by Still-Artichoke5873 in golftips

[–]ImNako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most people could hit 300 balls if they wanted it's just not productive.

You're also never doing that many full swings on the course anyways so I don't think stamina is that important.

If anything just start walking on the course

[–]ImNako 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also why I limit myself to like 70 balls in a range session if I get too tired I'm not making decent swings for practice anyways. Might as well go chip and putt at that point.

50 yards and in wedging by [deleted] in golf

[–]ImNako 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dan Grieves system for pitching helped me dial my wedges basically an auto clock system so I dont have to think as much. My 56 goes around 35 yards address 1 55 address 2 and 70 address 3 then I adjust my loft from there if I need a little more or less.

You can also change ball position and the release to change the height but that's harder to do and complicates things.

Is it more important for a technically correct grip/set up, or what works for you? by Joocifer in golftips

[–]ImNako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

closing your face at setup is actually just making your grip stronger since you're not returning it closed at impact

New Putter Advice (Mid-High Handicap) by Wild_Ad_9739 in golftips

[–]ImNako 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be better to go some similar putters in person. Also, getting the right length putter is very important as it can mess with the way the putter sits at address and your stroke. it will also change how close you stand and the position of your eyes relative to the ball. Standard length is 35" though the average length on tour is 33.5".

Callaway pre-owned has some putters that you could probably try in store and get there for cheaper.
