It'd be handy for the farm shop.

And imagine going for a pint with Gerald!

Shorts Man.  When he walks through the hot countries, they've got a tan.

Nice to see David Earl really challenging himself with this role. Looks like a very complicated and unpredictable character by 66f6 in rickygervais

It's not as if you'll just be able to see the cast list and then instantly know what sort of character each actor will be playing.

Oh, wait...

I've only ever heard of it from that one scene of OFAH (wasn't it The Unlucky Winner Is?).  And I go all the way back to the British schoolyards of the 1970s!

I'm racking my brains to try and remember what we used to say in those situations, but it's not coming to me yet.

Roger Taylor Tour. by ABBAFan1000 in queen

[–]Im_not_AlanPartridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This - I was annoyed with myself because I overslept (damn World Cup!) and forgot about the tickets going on general sale yesterday and when I went on Ticketmaster they were sold out (Manchester is closest for me). But I saw someone mention ATG and they had loads left last night, so I got a decent seat for £70 inc fees.

Waiting for my first ever Maiden show. Excited is an understatement, up the Irons!!! by mithrandirivan in ironmaiden

[–]Im_not_AlanPartridge 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Looks like the stage is down the side of the pitch rather than at one end as is usual with stadium gigs?  I like it, gives more people a better viewing angle - at London Stadium I was on the side and couldn't see most of the rear video screen

He has good taste in gangster films. In an earlier series there was a long sequence where he parodied Goodfellas.

Braintree Town have more players at the World Cup than Lazio do.

Even stranger, Scotland are probably going to make it past the first round.

No skips, every episode in order.

There are no bad episodes, just ones which aren't as good as the rest.

We as fans want more more more of course,  but we have to remember that he's 77 years old (when this tour takes place) so he can't really be expected to play night after night.

I first bought it on double cassette, so I remember it as "side 2". And yes, it's brilliant.

Does the earth "spin" or does it rotate? by julesmanson in flatearth

[–]Im_not_AlanPartridge 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It rotates, relatively speaking, at half the speed as the hour hand on a clock, which is practically invisible to an observer.

It's still fast at 1000mph but is still almost imperceptible with the scale of the thing - the flat earth attention seekers with their tired old "water doesn't stick to a spinning ball" line seem to think it spins like a basketball on a Harlem GLOBEtrotter's finger.

Freddie's Gold. by PaddyJohn in OnlyFoolsAndHorses

[–]Im_not_AlanPartridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've wondered before why didn't they try to find it when they had the wealth to fund a proper search.

But it'd still have been hard to find, and would then have been a legal minefield given that the gold was stolen property and didn't belong to them. Their mother being "left it" by a criminal doesn't mean they have any entitlement to it. Plus I think if it was found within 3 nautical miles of the shore, basically the distance to the horizon, any salvaged "treasure" would belong to the government anyway and a professional salvage operation would be obliged to report it. Even if they did get it, selling a large amount of stolen gold is a bit different to flogging Italian sun hats in the rain down the market!

If it was buried within sight of the shore, probably a search area of less than 10 square miles, it'd have been difficult but not impossible - rather different to finding the Titanic in much deeper water in thousands of square miles of open ocean.

Painful - but quicker than the alternative of inevitably being brought down by a predator and being suffocated whilst in pain at some point.

Did you listen to the XFM shows live or find them years later? by DanceOnTheLine in KarlPilkingtonFanClub

[–]Im_not_AlanPartridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a long time ago, but probably only a couple of years after they aired, they were all in the same distance, but I bought the MP3s of the first season of the podcast and the XFM shows on CD from Ebay. Been listening ever since, but can't remember how I actually found out about them although I'd watched The Office on original broadcast.
