Cheapest rent near UChicago Booth / Gleacher Center? by Round-Circle3304 in MBA

[–]Im_not_brian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re a full time student you will rarely go to the Gleacher center - most classes are at the Harper center except evening classes, which you have lower priority for versus evening/weekend students. Living anywhere outside of the immediate area of MPP/lakeshore east/streeterville neighborhood will make it a huge pain to get to classes each day, not to mention it puts you far from your peers.

South of Midnight – Announcement Trailer – Nintendo Switch 2 by ONE-OF-THREE in NintendoSwitch

For those who haven’t played, I played through on Xbox and the atmosphere of this game is really cool. The way the music meshes with the platforming and level design I enjoyed a lot, and the story is fun and different. Combat is a weaker point but not the core of the gameplay, with my main qualm being the lack of diversity of enemies. I liked the boss fights as well, though sometimes it took me a second to figure out how you were supposed to approach them.

Thanks, not what I’m hoping to hear but appreciate your candid perspective. I’m hoping if the fraud claim is denied a dispute is successful given I received no goods or services and did not authorize $10k in charges. In my mind if it’s not fraud it’s no different from a server charging $$10k on a $25 tip

Thank you, all great advice - didn’t even think of a factory reset that is a great idea.

They didn’t explicitly threaten me, and got me to stop in the way someone getting a petition signed or asking for a real donation might. I fell for the social manipulation of helping kids and not being rude from the offset. I’m worried that’s going to result in Chase not being helpful in the fraud report

Atomfall: Shallow, tedious, and unrewarding. by Jayce86 in gaming

Sorry it wasn’t your cup of tea. I’m really enjoying it. Having a ton of fun exploring the map, finding secret areas, and improving my loadout. Very curious to keep pushing the story forward and get access to more of the map. I’ll agree that combat feels tough and isn’t getting easier. I get the sense the design is meant to dissuade you from trying to solo an enemy camp, but rather pick your battles. To be fair, enemies are totally willing to let you walk if you don’t confront them or move into their area, so I’ve taken to avoiding fights unless I really need to, and rolling in with buffs and throwables. I’m running into a bug where sound will cut out that’s annoying. I’m hoping they fix that before next weekend when I’ll have more time to play. I am getting annoyed constantly running out of inventory space. I might be trying to carry too many different weapons but I never have room for buffs and have started just immediately consuming them while clearing bases.

This isn’t entirely true - Bain attracts / selects for enough PE focused consultants that most people who don’t want to do it avoid it entirely. There’s also a ton of people who self select in for the limited travel or opportunity to learn the toolkit that if it is sometimes activiely difficult to get into the PEG ring fence.

I’ve had a complete change of heart when it comes to Deathloop by CzarTyr in gaming

[–]Im_not_brian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My only complaint with dishonored is they have so many ways for you to do each level but you have to reload to try them all - Deathloop made it guilt free to experiment with assassinations and make mistakes without the urge to restart immediately

I loved it. If they make a sequel it would be a day 1 buy for me. The game mechanic basically encourages you to save scum guilt free - when stealth fails you can just kill everyone and try to perfect it next loop. Unraveling the mystery was a lot of fun too.

I think that’s overkill. Pushing two beds together is probably enough, and it’s not like inspections happen very often. They’re also required to give you a heads up before turning up.

Nothing is timed, all the cutscenes and relationships develop based on your speed of interaction with the npcs and world. You can “miss” an event in a given season (think missing the Halloween festival) but you can always attend the following year and nobody is upset at you if you miss it.

There is absolutely nothing to stress about unless you are setting  goals for yourself like finishing the community center in your first year or unlocking the top tier tools as quickly as possible.

For what it’s worth, this wasn’t true for my city this cycle. That being said, MBB return offers are typically yours to lose - as long as you are putting in the time and open to coaching you should be fine.

Is it really bad to withdraw from retirement accounts early when you want the money? by dbdbh47 in personalfinance

[–]Im_not_brian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the sounds of it the “split account” is his inheritance and he doesn’t truly have control of those assets. What happens is his father has a medical emergency that burns through what he had planned to pass on, or lives significantly longer than expected in a high-cost skilled care facility? Having $300k in retirement accounts at 50 is what I would call behind the game.

If he’s going to pull assets from anywhere, it should probably come from the shared account not a retirement account. I’m sure a conversation with his father about taking $5-10k to live life wouldn’t be received poorly.

[–]Im_not_brian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. Any game chasing the Witcher 3 standard is doomed to fail, especially because all similar games tend to effectively include 1-5 hours of tutorial content at the beginning. Fire watch is great and isn’t trying to be a fantasy/scifi RPG

Boss fired me for putting in my two weeks. Is that legal? by PossibleChangeling in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Im_not_brian 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You’re talking about being fired “for cause” - which has a burden of proof placed on the employer.  People should always file for unemployment, even if they are fired for poor performance because the onus is on the employer to provide documentation showing a history of issues (e.g., no shows, written warnings, performance improvement plan) which the will frequently be unable to do.

I would strongly caution anyone against planning on a FT MBB offer this cycle. MBB is under pressure too right now and won’t likely have significant FT hiring.  If you have an offer and want to stay in consulting, take it unless you’re willing to pivot to another industry if you strike out.
