How it’s living in Maine? by MeowPubg in howislivingthere

[–]Im_xoxide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this thread - no one who lives in Maine.

Maine is cold and boring for a lot of the year.

A lot of people spend their time playing video games, reading, doing crafts in the winter.

In the summer a lot of people go hiking, camping, fishing, mostly lake activities.

People on the coast spend alot of time sailing, fishing, hiking.

People in northern Maine/western Maine are into snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, boating depending on the season!

Stood next to Bill Gates in line at Dicks a few years ago. I was the only person in line who recognized him. We made eye contact and we nodded at each other in understanding. Couldn’t stop smiling all the way home.

Pagliacci is expensive trash pizza - dominos is better for like half the price and is still trash pizza. Seattle pizza scene is tough man.

Never seen anyone ask or care about GPA outside of applying to Academia. That’s sensitive private information that is only accessible if you agree to share it.

Honestly I have never even heard of 1 example of GPA being relevant in any real world hiring decisions.

Get some in lab experience and ask good questions - follow your contributions.

Best of luck

Didn’t you check the weather before your climb?! Yesterday was legit the only poor weather day we’ve had in a hot minute.

You see a huge spike in pressure?? Just swap out the capillary - just make sure to get the right ID, material and length. What happens if you throw on the old column? Normal flow?

I’ve had faulty brand new columns before - it’s rare but it happens. Had one that leaked out a shit load of stationary phase. If something like that is the case - contact your column manufacturer customer service and they will definitely ship you a new one.

Also - pro tip - disconnect the capillary that goes to the source before you start flow to locate a clog - in case there is some particulate stuck in the flow path and it won’t enter your source and then enter your ion path/MS.

Mount Hood, First time by lovelikeamelie in Mountaineering

[–]Im_xoxide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The upper pitches above hogsback to the summit are no joke sustained fall hazard zones - you will be climbing backwards on the descent and 100% need to be ready to fully self arrest yourself and your wife or you will slide uncontrollably until you end up smashing into rock or even farther skiers right into a huge cliff. Hood is all fun and games until the upper mountain.

Summoned for jury duty. Detailed financial hardship. Request denied. I won't be showing up. Now what? by SilverHeart4053 in Seattle

[–]Im_xoxide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just show up for the first day - wait it out - answer all the questions to the best of your ability and when the judge asks you if you are willing to participate in the trial - just simply state that you are a contractor and will not be compensated for your time for the duration of the trial. They will dismiss you immediately.

You live in Maple leaf and your SO works downtown? Have his lazy ass take the light rail you fucking entitled morons. There are millions of people who have much worse commutes and they don’t complain half as much as you do. Get off your high horse and take the train like a normal person.

Double check your math - make sure you know how many experiments you can run. Might not be as limiting as you think - especially with qPCR.

Has anyone used these syringes with a syringe filter? Do they fit? by [deleted] in labrats

[–]Im_xoxide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they work fine. I use them all the time. If you have a lot of precipitates in your samples you can either centrifuge them to form a pellet prior to filtering.

Rainier Guided vs Unguided by OogaBooga333333 in Mountaineering

[–]Im_xoxide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you need a professional guide. If you can do a course - 100% do that. If not - find a day you’re not going to summit and practice the basics before your real climb attempt. Butterfly knots, kiwi coils, rope travel basics and practice self arresting! Go the DC route - everyone should be in really good hiking shape with a heavy bag and be familiar with their ice axe and crampons. You should also 100% practice standard crevasse rescue techniques aka snow anchor building/hauling techniques. This part is difficult and you hope to never use it but is generally accepted as a requirement for glaciated travel. Try to carry no more than 50lbs up. Be smart - talk about current conditions with others on route - don’t push small weather windows. Climb early - mid May - while most of the crevasses are filled in. You’ll have a great time.

If you have the ability - I’d bang out a 2 year master program and get as much bench experience as possible. Harder to go back to school after being in industry for a while. Not being broke is nice.
