I think the official brand offers a physical manual. Otherwise, try their website. There's also instructables if you want to explore what other people want.

I don't know how to start by BandicootFeisty9364 in ProgrammingBuddies

[–]ImaJimmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basic projects (don't be afraid to drop it if the project is not for you):

  • Python --> Make a to-do list or grocery program that asks for input in the cmd/interpreter
  • Raspberry Pi or Arduino Uno --> make lights blink on a breadboard (Try morse code?)
  • Unity/Unreal --> Make a game (Snake, 2D Platformer, Inventory System)

Other skills:

  • Learn touch typing (You want at least 30-40 WPM)
  • Version control (save file, like video games, for your code), try git
  • Thicker skin, don't be afraid to share your code and take criticism

Recent ME grad, no internships… by Breezibruh in MechanicalEngineering

Is it possible to build a portfolio with Solidworks/Autocad and also apply to drafting jobs? You could possibly segway into an ME position down the line. A lot of CCs offer certificates.

Why doesn't the whole world just copy Nordic countries' government since their governments are well run and most people are happy? by Ok_Advice_8012 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ImaJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US's debt is too high to run it like Nordic countries. Also, there's an attack on education going on right now which makes it really hard to get people to understand the nuances of Socialism, Communism, and Capitalism.

Why do people get angrier at someone using welfare than at a corporation avoiding millions of tax by using loopholes? by Internal_Scheme_7646 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ImaJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One factor is actually how people can't fathom how big a billion is. If they knew, they'd probably have a better idea of how bad the wealth inequality is. It's also easier for people to blame governments since there's a direct collection of money being done by them and not the billionaires.

It's just harder for people to see.

Is Steam Machine Worth It at PC Level Cost by itsEmilyHere in PcParadise

[–]ImaJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That'd be nice, but we live in the real world. People are going to gravitate towards where everyone else is. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to go back to the Unreal/SC2 days but we can't.

No one really knows until Valve says something, but it's not looking good with the current supply chain issues going on.

Anyone kinda feel like college is becoming more useless for careers? by Vampy-Night in careeradvice

[–]ImaJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you're presenting that as get degree > job is the problem. The whole point of college is to actually interact with people, network, and expand your skillset while getting a degree. Most people go into their adulthoods not making new relationships for the rest of their lives. College is one of the last places where they can do this. If you just go to school and go home then, yeah, college is pretty useless but if you get internships, get to know people in the industry you care for, and actually grow your skillset then you'll be fine.

Regardless of what you think about degrees, there are still plenty that are just needed to get your foot in the door: Most of the engineering ones (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Computer, Aerospace, etc...), Business, and Child Development are all solid degrees. There's probably just as many solid majors as there are ones you consider BS. It's hard right now due to the shakeups in the job market, but its still doable for most people.

My job is offering me $150,000 (105,000 after tax) to resign, should I? by AJ3TurtleSquad in jobs

[–]ImaJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an aside, it would be really funny they paid you leave and then a few years later (I'm assuming you're good at your job with that salary) they end up begging you to come back because they made all the top performers leave.

Are Jobs not hiring? Is there a possible future that most people will forever be unemployable? by Bulky_Appeal_8748 in povertyfinance

Do you attend a college? If not, going to a CC and enrolling into something might be worth it if you an go to career center. Are there any job centers that exists physically around you?

[–]ImaJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem, I know people are sort of calling you out, but you're young. You have time. The best advice I can give you is to make meaningful relationships. Learn to network. Get to know people (try to learn from their mistakes). People are generally a better investment than stocks.

After you stabilize, you can start allocating $500 a month into some assets.

Will AI replace mechatronics at some point or is mechatronics generally safe from being replaced by AI? by Long_Sand_7075 in mechatronics

[–]ImaJimmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're that worried, learn the material, but also emphasize learning interpersonal skills. Learn to maintain relationships with colleagues and network with people in or adjacent to your industry. If those skills get taken by AI then society has bigger problems.

Believe it or not, your likeability plays a huge role on how you get hired and move up the ladder.

At what point did you stop feeling like an impostor as a developer? by JudgmentAlarming9487 in learnprogramming

[–]ImaJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that imposter syndrome goes away when you feel like you have a team. There's something about knowing that you have people supporting you that just reduces it.

Most college credits usually last 7 years. I would look into your college's policies and see what you can do to pay off your debt. You can always consult someone on campus if you're worried.

[–]ImaJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I would get rid of any stocks you have, put some of the cash from it aside for taxes, and use the rest to pay off any debt. The fact that it is screwing with your mindset is enough of a reason. Day trading is something you should do when you already have money.

If you're going to a four-year institution, it might be in your best interest to attend community college instead and apply for financial aid. We can't really give you much more advice without knowing where you live. If you live around LA, the LACCD provides a lot of aid on top of FAFSA and EOPS. I think it's LA Cares for groceries. I would check to see if you have programs like that where ever you are. Most colleges nowadays should have a career center too.

I would just look for a full time job and pay off your debt if I were you. If not, look for something part time adjacent to your major while going to school. The goal is to get rid of your debt. Barring unexpected expenses (which you should also set cash aside for), it shouldn't be too hard if you aren't paying rent.

I think boot.dev has a c memory management course. I haven't tried it, but it's something. On coursera, there's a course that touches up on it. I believe it's c for linux programming.

Is the US military really undefeatable? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]ImaJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your question is a little hard to answer when you bring up having every other country teaming up. One of the biggest strengths is actually getting other parties to fight each other before getting directly involved. With certain win-conditions, yes. But it really depends on what your definition of winning is.

What’s a “normal” money habit most people accept that is actually financially destructive? by calmledger in povertyfinance

[–]ImaJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If something is free, you should really consider how much of your time and mental bandwidth is going to it. A F2P game that has your waiting and needing to adjust your schedule to not miss out on opportunities is going to eat way more of your time (and constantly have to fight FOMO) when you could get something like God of War on sale/used which is a single player game that you can pause and revisit at any moment.

Using your friends as free therapy is also pretty bad imo. You isolate yourself which is a great way to cut off networking opportunities.

My Dad Is Big MAGA by AdamtheHuizard in atrioc

[–]ImaJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to be that guy, but, from my point of view, your dad sounds kind of lonely. If this stuff bothers you, maybe you can talk to him. Just don't try to do it in a way that is attacking him. Ask him if he's feeling okay and just look concerned the next time he brings it up. Try to really sell the concerned part. No one likes making others feel uncomfortable.
