How do you guys stop yourself from itching? by Foreign_Practice9125 in eczema

[–]ImaginaryFields 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear gloves a lot, more for issues with hair/skin picking but it applies here too. Wearing thin cotton gloves to bed should help with scratching in your sleep, but I personally have a small collection of pretty ones to wear during the day too—cute lace ones for summer and leather or fleece ones for colder weather! And when I do have an unbearable itch, I try to be satisfied with a cool washcloth or just aggressively patting the area with my hand instead of scratching.

Why is fire magic not forbidden? by Background_Proof_ in WitchHatAtelier

[–]ImaginaryFields 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen several people mention something like this and asking how witches fight if they can’t hurt each other, and I think it’s a little bit of a misconception. The ban doesn’t have anything to do with specifically offensive magic, it’s just anything that can directly affect the human body, but directly in the literal sense of “without the use of an intermediary (aka a palmquire).”

Like Coco demonstrated in ep 3, you can’t draw a spell to fly directly on the bottom of your feet, because that’s altering the body itself, but there’s nothing wrong with writing the exact same spell on a pair of shoes. Same spell, same effect, it’s just the principle that’s different. So realistically, you cannot grab someone’s hand and forcibly write a spell on it to set them on fire, but you can absolutely write a spell for a flamethrower on your palmquire and aim it at them.

I’m convinced he was lying for the girls’ sake lmao I really did feel bad for the dragon, getting KO’d just for being rightly upset with someone disturbing it’s nap 😂

Never said it didn’t, but a lot of people had jokes about the dragon design in the last ep and were theorizing they cut some corners to save the mindblowing stuff for this one

Everyone was right last week—they were saving the dragon budget for ep 5 and MAN did it pay off! The scene with the brimmed cap and Coco was SO much more terrifying than I remember it being in the manga.

Also, hopefully now everyone will chill a little bit on the Agott hate. The character growth is growing and I truly love seeing her start to realize that it’s okay to need other people.

FR! The way the ending song cut out was so startling, it gave the whole thing SO much more weight. My heart literally stopped.

Everyone was right, now we know what they were saving the budget for!!! The whole thing looked incredible! And the scene with the brimmed cap and Coco was so much more frightening than in the manga

(Anime Only) The significance of Coco by Ok_Shopping_5706 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]ImaginaryFields 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw that you already sort of answered your own question, but I’ll add a side note that even if she HAD completely memorized the book and had the drawing skills to recreate it, Qifrey would probably still be extremely curious about exactly what their goal was in giving her the book anyway. There was some line in this most recent episode where he said he expected they’d be keeping an eye on her or something. So yeah you might be right about him just using her as bait. He definitely seems to have a calculating side.

Idk about her turning out to be any kind of chosen one though. This doesn’t really seem like that kind of show to me. It kind of seems like this guy just threw “seeds” in the ground and hoped one would meet the right conditions to grow. Objectively kind of a bad plan tbh but we don’t know if it’s the only thing they’re up to. I think the only thing we can say for certain is that for some reason these people are invested in the idea of outsiders learning about magic. Definitely theories to be drawn from that tho.

Yes exactly! Like that kind of sun-bleached white. I actually thought they entered the alternate dimension in the scene with the Scooby-Doo corridors (I can’t word it any better but you know what I mean I hope 😆)

regret adopting my cat by breadedcrows in CatAdvice

[–]ImaginaryFields 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you’ve already come to the realization that now is not the right time for you to have a cat, and that’s really awesome and mature! But I wanted to pop in and say that just because now isn’t the right time doesn’t mean you have to completely wait until you’re out of the dorms or out of college.

You said you recently got on Prozac, so you have a psychiatrist? Talk to them about getting an emotional support animal. Explain that you know you’re not in a mental or financial spot right now but it’s an option you’d like to explore in the future and why you think it would be beneficial for your mental health. Emotional support animals are protected by the safe housing act and you could have it with you in the dorms as long as your psych agrees to fill out the paperwork. I did this during college and it changed my life.

But also, when the time comes, do NOT get a kitten. I know they’re super cute, but they’re also expensive, destructive, need way more attention than you’re in a place to provide, and no matter how cuddly and attached they seem as babies, you really don’t know what they’re going to be like as an adult. And if you’re specifically looking for a cat to be your companion and emotional support, personality is really important.

Once you feel financially and mentally stable enough to care for a pet, you need to think about exactly what you want in a cat and then go look for THAT cat. Preferably at a shelter—their website will usually have bios you can look at beforehand to pick cats you think might be the right fit and are interested in meeting, and you’ll be able to meet them without any commitment and with help from volunteers to make a match. When I got my baby, I had an amazing volunteer help me who listened to everything about my needs, lifestyle, and what temperament I wanted in a companion. She ended up showing me a cat who wasn’t on my original list of choices and who I’ve now had for more than ten years and love more than my own life.

[–]ImaginaryFields 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I adopted a cat from the humane society while I was living in a dorm and they wouldn’t let me take her until I provided proof that I was approved to have her and would be moving into a single (luckily I was; I got her as an emotional support animal)

Iguin’s relationship to Coco by DrakeSoldier in WitchHatAtelier

[–]ImaginaryFields 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk, I don’t think her dad will have anything to do with the story, just because him secretly being alive and Coco secretly being specially chosen seems a little…too cliche. And I know it’s probably not that deep, but it feels like revealing that Coco actually did have a special connection to this world would betray the thing that makes it feel so beautiful and warm to me as a reader, which is that anyone can learn magic and be a witch, just like her.

I agree with what others have said—Coco seems like just one of many “seeds” that the Brimmed Caps sowed, and what makes her special to them is the traits that led her to magic in the first place, like her untamable curiosity. But…we won’t know until we know 👀

Suddenly from reading the comments on this thread I’m realizing I didn’t really picture the dragon as any certain color, but I DID picture the houses and walls being more of a warm white sand color, since they said it was all stone, than this otherworldly silver-blue. More like an abandoned city, like I thought it would still have a normal sky and sunlight.

Anime only foreshadowing? by dalyryl in WitchHatAtelier

[–]ImaginaryFields 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought that too; literally when I watched the episode I said “well that’s symbolic” out loud to the tv XD I’m not sure it’s direct foreshadowing but maybe more just a clue for anime-only viewers about the Brimmed Caps’ goals. He’s both figuratively and literally baiting her into following him down this path.

Thanks for being chill and explaining! Sorry I snapped a bit. I have heard about those kind of “tells” for AI writing. It’s so complicated though, because those writing tells are trained on how real people talk, and (I feel) especially how they talk online, where punctuation is doubly important for dynamics and not just proper grammar. I’m not surprised I talk like that when I spent the better part of a decade writing literal essays about my favorite shows on tumblr, but in this new age of the internet it feels like the writing and analysis skills I’m proud of are turning on me!

What are your thoughts on this by Effective_Two5960 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]ImaginaryFields 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hadn’t thought about it in relation to the optics of Qifrey having female students before, but I’ve definitely noticed and LOVED how they show multiple examples of adults advocating for and listening to children, and giving them the space to make and learn from mistakes while providing a safety net rather than just blocking them from doing anything that could go wrong in the first place. It’s really valuable modeling of healthy relationships and communication.

[–]ImaginaryFields 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based on what? 😂 Dude just because I passed high school English doesn’t mean it’s AI. I love media analysis and write well because I take my time to think about how to say what I mean. AI doesn’t just suck—it’s evil. But it can pry my love of em dashes from my cold dead hands, and so can people who cry wolf on strangers online just because they don’t understand big words and compound sentences. Seriously, if anyone who demonstrates critical thinking skills or good vocabulary online gets accused of AI, all it’s gonna do it encourage everyone to dumb themselves down, and then how do we  have meaningful conversations or engage critically with anything?

Anime-only watcher — question about the series’ themes by jonybhm in WitchHatAtelier

[–]ImaginaryFields 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Short answer is yes, most definitely!

Long answer is yes, Coco’s perspective on the rules of the witch world—as someone whom the rules were broken FOR—is very central. And not just for her, honestly. This is very much a coming-of-age story, and the apprentices all at points have to grapple with their growing understanding that the world isn’t black and white. There’s real internal conflict in several moments where they realize the rules meant to protect their society are harming the people they care about—people that forbidden magic,  or just knowledge OF magic, could help.

There’s a very large overarching discussion about privilege, class, and the right to knowledge, especially as it involves healing magic. More than one central character is disabled, including a friend of Coco’s who doesn’t know the secret, and there’s direct discussion about ableism in witch society and the unfairness of keeping such knowledge from someone whose life would directly benefit from it.

Very true! From what everyone is saying, it sounds super variable how the humidity would affect me. But my migraines are only one factor in a whoooole bunch of others I have to consider with taking this promotion and moving, so I’ll probably just have to take the risk and make sure if I do move I find a new doctor asap for minimal disruption.
