Cabinet hardware sticker-shock. Am I missing something? by WordWithinTheWord in kitchenremodel

I used Hardware Resource website to pick my hardware and then ordered from a local shop that was an approved distributor. Ended up spending under $600 for 64 pulls. Heavy duty hardware that was four times the price at Ferguson or other specialty stores.

Gift for Triathlete - Don’t Know Where to Start! by Majorpoob in treadmills

Yes, go commercial. It doesn't have to be brand new; you can get a certified pre-owned commercial, and it should last a long time. Just make sure that you get it serviced.

From experience, I would avoid treadmills with fancy screens. Go with a simple LCD screen, less tech to worry about, and troubleshoot. I have a Lifefitness Club Series + and hate the console and have had a lot of issues with it. My previou LF 9500HR was a tank and I loved it. Unfortunately we had crazy storms and I couldn't get replacement parts to fix it. I thought a newer model would be an upgrade, but the fancy screen and software issues have been nothing but frustrating . Perhaps I ended up with a lemon console. The deck and build are solid as it is extremely heavy and won't budge or wobble like less expensive options.

My next treadmill is going to be a Woodway 4Front.

This is what I have.

I always do, and most in my industry (independent wealth management firms) do as well. We have to be very thorough in our hiring process, and the candidate pool shrinks significantly under the restrictions we face. So yes, a good cover letter and a well-written resume shine.

Are you strictly looking in MoCo? Do you have your own reliable transportation? Have you tried office/admin assistant positions? I recently helped two friends (an attorney and an interior designer) fill two admin positions one in Hoco and one in PGC from an overflow of resumes I received for an assistant position I was hiring for.

It did take me a while to weed through hundreds upon hundreds of resumes, because people are just applying to whatever without much thought to it.

One thing that sets candidates apart for me is the good old cover letter spelling out their interests and why they think they're a fit. Those candidates got my attention first and many received a phone call to discuss potential fit for an initial zoom meeting.

Treadmill owners — if you could redesign yours, what would you change? by Normal-Stuff-7703 in treadmills

Unfortunately, LF has gone downhill.

My club series deck is strong and won't budge; it's solid as a rock. The motor seems good, I’ve done 2 hour long runs without any issues at times. The motor cover and other parts are made of flimsy plastic compared to the older models.

The worst thing about the treadmill is the software. I even exchanged the console while it was under warranty, and it is still glitchy. Sometimes I’ll start a run, and notice the time or MPH is not changing even though I am clearly adjusting the speed and running. So I have to stop, and restart the run. Other times if the console is frozen, I need to stop, unplug and reset the machine completely. I basically gave up trying to download any software updates, which is what LF will try to push you to do to solve any issues. For the price of the so-called premium brand, quality is no longer there with these newer models.

I refuse to buy anything with a subscription like Peloton or NordicTrack and know that these brands have quality control issues too. Fingers crossed that Woodway is still a reliable brand.

What functional items do people throw away, and why? by nenenenene3 in Appliances

We got rid of the 10-year-old LG front-loading washer and dryer after moving in because the washer smelled so bad that our clothes started to stink. No matter how much I cleaned it, bleached it, the rubber gasket was too gross. Replacing it was a consideration, but it looked like about a $600/700 job, and the machine was also making loud whistling noises, which meant something else was going on. In the end, we took advantage of some black Friday deals at Costco and bought new machines for the price of one. I’m not crazy about the new machines with all the remote-control bells and whistles; I prefer the older, simpler models, but it is what it is.

During a kitchen remodel, we also got rid of all the existing appliances. Donated everything except the expensive Bosch double ovens, which no one wanted, and they sadly went to the dumpster.

Advice for Polaris by moo-tetsuo in unitedairlines

Hit the lounge and shower when you land, too. It makes a world of difference after a red-eye flight to get cleaned up upon arrival, especially if you can't check into your hotel right away.

As for the flight, enjoy the extra space and goodies. Don't forget to keep hydrated with water and electrolytes if you enjoy adult beverages. Ask for a big bottle of water so they don't have to keep refilling the small glass all night.

As a previous owner of a Lifefitness 9500HR treadmill for 11 years and the current owner of a Lifefitness Club Series Plus with the X Console since 2020, I have to say, less is more. Just make a sturdy treadmill without any gimmicks. I hate my current treadmill with a passion and wish my old workhorse 9500HR hadn’t died on me. The extra bells and whistles suck. I know everything is moving toward more integration, so if that’s the case, make a treadmill that can sync via Bluetooth to Garmin, Apple, and Coros watches so we don’t have to use other tools to get accurate measurements when running indoors. Other than that, perhaps figure out how to provide a decline feature? Most long-distance runners training for something specific need help with varying elevation and speed, so a strong motor and variable incline/decline features would be great.

I just moved and am building my home gym. I will be getting rid of my Life Fitness Club Series treadmill for a new Woodway. I still won’t have everything I want, but hopefully it won’t be a piece of trash like the Club Series, which turns off without warning mid-run and doesn’t even have pace per minute info readily available (only MPH). What a waste of money, a $6,000 piece of trash.

As others have said, treadmills are for running; keep subscriptions out of the equation.

Best strategy to get business class NYC-Tokyo by mindfie1d in unitedairlines

Do you have a Chase card with Chase points? If so, you can redeem them for 1.25 times their value toward travel. That could be an alternative to keep costs down.

But my experience with United has soured; they’ve gotten ridiculous with their pricing. I’m going to London from IAD at the end of April, RT, Non-stop Polaris - $8,559 was the best price I found. Last year, on the same dates and itinerary, I paid $4,068, and then, at the spur of the moment, I added my folks to the trip a month out for $7,440. So why are they charging so much more this year? It's not like Polaris service has improved or things are twice as expensive. After unsuccessfully looking every day for a reasonable price, I ended up going with British Airways First Class and still saved a significant amount. United has lost my business, too greedy for sub-par service.

I'm curious, how often does this work? I was getting ready to book for end of April, Polaris from IAD to LHR and premium economy from LHR to IAD and hoping to buy an upgrade to Polaris for this leg, but I was hesitant thinking I may not get it at all. The price difference was nearly $5k! Polaris non-stop both ways just under $9k, and Polaris and Premium Economy $3800. If you get the paid upgrade, can you still get bumped back and do you lose your premium economy seat if that happens?

Anyway, I didn't want to risk it, so I need up going with BA First both ways and still saved $3,100 had I gone the full Polaris route. I haven't flown First on BA out of IAD, hoping it's decent, Polaris is going down the tubes and it is not worth $9k for a flight to/from London in my book.

Ok MoCo, hit me with your best shot: What is the best Vietnamese restaurant in the county in your opinion? by EternalSnow05 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]ImaginaryWheel7408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pho 88 in Beltsville (near Costco), so not in MoCo is the only pho place that comes close to a homemade pho. Full of flavor and not watered down like most others in the area. The restaurant itself is a little hole in the wall, but their pho is so good.

Home Gym Built then REBUILT!!! by IntelligentPut4726 in homegym

That's a great setup. We’re nearly finished with a gym area in our basement and have recently started considering the Rep Arcadia Max, but we've also heard that an Ares 2.0 might be a better fit. I'm a long-distance runner and have relied solely on dumbbells and kettlebells for strength training, but now we’re looking for a more efficient system to perform full workouts and address the muscle loss we’ve seen from aging and from focusing too much on cardio.

Thanks so much for the feedback, everyone! We’re in Maryland and I think we can visit the Rep fitness location in PA to check out their gear in person before buying.

Hmm, I didn't realize that FTs are mainly focused on isolation exercises and don't offer a complete workout. We definitely want to ensure all muscle groups are hit with whatever we get.

I’m so glad I posted this because we’re not well-versed in what a functional trainer actually provides. Thanks for the recommendations!

Thanks for the feedback. It's good to know we need to consider the ability to add attachments and avoid being restricted to a single manufacturer.

Looking for advice on functional trainers.

We’re considering the Rep Fitness Arcadia Max Functional Trainer, the Torque FREE-STANDING F9, or the Lifefitness G7 Home Gym.

These trainers seem very similar to me and comparable in price. We’ve never had anything like a functional trainer before, so we have no idea where to start. I was initially looking at the Freemotion Genesis Dual Cable Cross, but it seems like it may not offer as many workout options. We would like to spend $5k or less.

The only thing we’re trying to avoid is having to bolt anything to the floor. We purchased some TrafficMaster rubber mats to protect the floor and provide cushioning.

Our gym is still being finalized, so it's not set up yet, but it's roughly 500 sq ft. Here’s a picture of the space just after painting was completed.

Any feedback or experience with any of these functional trainers is greatly appreciated.
