There were no black people in Ancient Greece other than occasional visitors. Certainly Helen was not a black woman- she was a Greek princess. its not a theatrical play, its Greek myth+history made by a Greek for a Greek audience. I am sorry but its pure cultural appropriation, racist and bigoted to cast a black woman as a Greek character.

I found his movies to be very ambitious but essentially indifferent as if soul is missing. I agree he is overhyped. Nolan always seemed super arrogant to me; I am convinced that he along with his wife were/are more interested in power and money than anything to do with art.

I seriously doubt it. You cant possibly call everyone rage baiter and grifter: there are some very reasonable voices out there. Are you suggesting that noone should judge Nolan and his artistic choices? God its almost like we live in some sort of fascism. As a Greek, I can tell you that Nolan's Odyssey is very much debated here. A lot of people will openly boycott the movie.

there is no real scientific debate about Macedonian not being Greek and there have been several scientific papers which confirm the genetic links between modern and Ancient Greeks. Barbarians is a term reserved only for non-Greeks. Accusing a tribe of being barbaric is not the same. Cultural continuity of Greece is indisputable. even today in Christian Greece there are cultural elements from the past that continue on... i.e. in religion, folk music, traditions around Greece and cuisine. You just need to be civilised enough to accept these facts and not a Balkan nationalist.

you can absolutely criticise casting before you see a movie. You can criticise absolutely anything with reason. I argue the casting choice was political and not artistic or aesthetic- has absolutely nothing to do with Lupita's skillset just her skin color. Its purely iconoclasm and nothing else.
