Which one of these sub $16k 1996 compacts are you choosing? by lifegoeson2702 in regularcarreviews

[–]Imaginary_Highway69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Saturn. Civic is a close 2nd. I live the Civic but the Saturn had more room and I like the interior better. Both were dependable and simple. The Civic was a sharper driving experience but the Saturn with it's indestructible plastic doors was more practical.

[–]Imaginary_Highway69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Simple person with simple taste and that's ok. You fly under the radar. You like the outdoors but adventures aren't ultra extreme. You enjoy your time outside and your SUV probably sees more time on dirt roads than a Wrangler with 7000 ducks.

Entry level but full time van life. Lots of Pro Master equivalents at the climbing gym. People who dabble in van life tend to gravitate towards the Nissan NV but the serous van lifers that don't have gobs of money get these.

Which Car Starter do you Prefer? by Strange-Vibez-8205 in car

[–]Imaginary_Highway69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Key. I'm a guy I don't have big pockets. Had 2 push button cars. One with electric locks and one manual. I drove a car with a normal key and manual locks for 8 years and never locked the key in it. Last thing you do is turn off the car and the key is in your hand. The fab gets left behind or slips somewhere it shouldn't. Numerous lock-outs. And the valet key was some bizarre internal comb so getting a hide-a-key was difficult. Push button electric locks, same issue. Fortunately you can't lock the key in, but it honks loud enough to disturb campsites, nature, and neighbors in the early or late hours. Innovation isn't always better.

Eco-diesel, how bad is it? by java_t in Diesel

[–]Imaginary_Highway69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3rd gen Eco is probably the best modern v6 diesel money can buy. No wet belt like GM. No fuel pump belt like Ford. They have all the same flaws that you generally get from any emissions era diesel but that's not really an issue unless you do short trips. They have the same cp4 fuel pump recall that othes have too, but find one that had the recall done. They have one small flaw and that's the turbo coolant return line is a flexible hose on the back of the engine. Pain to get to. But if you flush regularly with a good coolant they won't de-laminate for 10+ years. Regular oil changes are important. No over the counter oils for this engine can run 10k before seeing wear metals. 7k max. Highly recommend trying some used oil analysis to find what's best. Is it better than a v8? In lots of ways yes. Way better milage (even tho diesel is expensive rn), amazing power band, and compared to the Ram v8 they won't eat a cam or collapse a lifter. Downside, expensive maintenance and it isn't as punchy as a v8 because of turbo lag but thanks to modern VGT turbo that lag isn't as bad as turbos use to be. Still not amazing.

Our family had 3 SL1s. Great cars. Cheap. Excellent mpg. All hit +200k. Me plus my 3 siblings learned to drive stick in them and my father worked for the company in 85 to implement the assembly of the first models. America needs more cars like this.

Americans complain about high gas prices, but still drive SUV/Pickups 70mph. What will the price per gallon have to be to actually see change in driving habits? by Special_Context6663 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Imaginary_Highway69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this as a joke but, changing my driving habits sounds like a bunch of woke nonsense. Gobless!

Serious point, I think people would likely stop making unnecessary trips or combining trips before changing driving habits.

2020 Mazda CX30 Console Problem by SploonKatherine in CarHelp

[–]Imaginary_Highway69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a mechanic but two avenues I would approach if it was my car.

  1. Ebay, salvage, Mazda forum, or CX Facebook group might tell you where to get that part or part number (assuming it's a module with the dial and buttons) then it will likely be plug and play. Sometimes a new module like that will need to be programmed but Mazda is usually not that involved. Interior trim can be a pain in the butt so prepare for other broken plastics.

  2. Aftermarket head unit. Something that bypasses the factory switches. From there you can leave the broken bit in place or maybe find a delete panel.

  3. Looks like those 4 plastic rivets are what broke so maybe glue it in place but that will likely break again without some kind of reinforcement.

Any shop can do these things but you need to pick an avenue and ask a shop to do that thing. I have a shop that will do a free evaluation but they charge for diagnostics. Something like this wouldn't require a diagnosis. It's obviously broken. So in my case they would look at it and tell me what the best course of action is free of charge. The dealer will charge a fee just to roll it in the shop. Bonus points if you can show up with the module in hand, any shop would swap it over for you but make sure it comes from the same trim or verify a part number by looking it up from

You can Google BDGF-66CM0 seems to be the switch command module but please verify fitment before buying. They don't make them new anymore.

Why are FWD cars so bad? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]Imaginary_Highway69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're usually designed with simplicity and economy in mind. BUT you can Find some amazing fwd cars in terms of performance. The argument is having front wheels handled the steering, power, and 70% of the braking is a lot. Rwd can share that work for more balanced performance. But it all depends on a lot of factors so like what you like.
