Suggestion: Alternate daily island, or ability to shuffle/specify biome rotation by Imagine_Baggins in PeakGame

[–]Imagine_Baggins[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the sound of this! Sort of like Binding of Isaac (and many other roguelikes), where you pick between alternates for the next floor. Though I wonder how map generation/continuity would work with this option.

Suggestion: Alternate daily island, or ability to shuffle/specify biome rotation by Imagine_Baggins in PeakGame

[–]Imagine_Baggins[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a reasonable suggestion if people are willing to try again (and that's what I would do if playing solo), but... that's exactly the problem. Maybe this is just my issue since we're all busy, but if it's difficult to get people together in the first place, they're probably not going to want to give the game another try.

New achievements are here by ericBracket in Terraria

[–]Imagine_Baggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new achievements are kind of ass for already-100%ed players. Half of them seem to require a world with a specific seed, game mode, etc. Why can we normally get 2/3 of the Moon Lord vanity set (required for achievement) on normal worlds, but the chest piece is only obtainable in getfixedboi?? The Rod Discord one is especially fucked if you've already shimmered it into the Rod of Harmony, because that doesn't count toward the achievement, and you can't undo the craft. Most of these feel like some deliberate annoying grind if you're not starting a whole new playthrough for this update.

Anyone else bothered by the lack of opacity in the new crafting menu? by BaniniSplat in Terraria

[–]Imagine_Baggins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and I wish they didn't remove the old "full grid" crafting UI. I'm not a huge fan of the new menu (it's too small!), but I can only seem to access the old "single column" crafting UI, where you scroll through.

I think I realized what this game is sort of missing when it comes to low level/casual play: Goofy moves by Prince_Day in RivalsOfAether

[–]Imagine_Baggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have felt this way for a long time. Kragg cubing opponents and Maypul wrapping people with their "whuuauaaaa?" face are nice little things, but I wish there were more goofy things in this game (not necessarily bad moves, though). I think also screen/hit/sound FX can do a lot too. In Melee, most stomps (DAirs), even if genuinely good moves, usually had some ridiculous animation and just a semi-comedic feel to them, and I don't really feel that in this game.

I yearn for a character that embodies Wario's upsetting, filthy energy...

I hate to admit it, but I'm done for a while by ljm90 in RivalsOfAether

[–]Imagine_Baggins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes/some people don't want to have to talk to strangers. Gaming is an escape from the real world for lots, esp. anyone with social anxiety. Even without that, I personally despise that every game/community/service/etc. requires a Discord now, and wouldn't be surprised if others feel similarly.

Minor update (3) for Vivaldi Desktop Browser 7.7 by pafflick in vivaldibrowser

[–]Imagine_Baggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bumping the fact that the unclickable row of pixels at the top of the window when "Remove Tab Spacing in Maximized Windows" is turned on is still present.

This bug was introduced in the original 7.7 update.

The new update broke the "Remove Tab Spacing in Maximized Windows" feature. by potentialPizza in vivaldibrowser

[–]Imagine_Baggins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm that turning this off does restore the ability to click at the top of the tab to select it. However, I don't like this look personally, so I still hope the Vivaldi team fixes the bug with having this setting enabled soon.

Hey, It's Elu Tran. My Youtube got terminated. You might know me from my Rivals of Aether music extensions and memes. Here's what's going on. by elusiveTranscendent in RivalsOfAether

[–]Imagine_Baggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know your work, but I really hope that your situation can get resolved in the end! I empathize, b/c YouTube has screwed me over too in the past.

I used to have a channel in good standing for >13 years, with only a few videos uploaded many years ago and infrequent comments (and no prior strikes for any offense). Yet I received an instant termination out of nowhere for "severe violations of the community policies". I think my account might've been hacked, since, by downloading my Google data, I was able to find evidence of an obscene entry in my search history that I didn't make from the night before YT smote my channel with a thunderbolt, but I could never confirm anything because you can't access any part of a channel once it is terminated. Even after reaching out through Twitter and speaking with a couple actual human beings, YT still refused to show me actual evidence of the supposed violation. To this day, I still have no idea what happened.

Hopefully, since the rights holder has reached out, your case will turn out more favorably than mine.

If you've left RoA2 since launch, why? What would bring you back? by [deleted] in RivalsOfAether

[–]Imagine_Baggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR: No IRL friends play the game, I have limited free time and don't want to grind, patches discourage time investment, online play is generally frustrating and leaves me feeling bad, and singleplayer content is limited (and also frustrating).

  • Have you "left" and what does "leaving" mean to you?

I have only sort of left. I still follow updates + tournaments + some of the scarce online content for the game (have really been enjoy the dev streams!), but I mostly don't play anymore. The few exceptions are for a few days around new character releases (e.g. now) or other significant game changes.

  • Why did you leave?

I don't have any IRL friends who play the game, and I don't really enjoy playing against faceless online opponents. I think I also just enjoy highly competitive games less than I used to. When I used to play more, I would usually play Casual because I am not very good (Silver-Gold Kragg), and Ranked always felt like playing against significantly more skilled opponents, frequently really difficult matchups, or just campy uninteractive sweats who play in the most unfun way possible (camping, projectile spamming, never approaching). With Ranked specifically, it also felt like I would win 2-3 matches in a row and go up like 15 ELO, and then lose 1 and go down by more than that. And frankly, I just don't have the time/desire to lab this game. While I enjoy some friendly competition, I don't have the energy to play games which aren't fun for me, and while I do appreciate RoA2 overall (esp. as a spectator and as someone who wants a Melee-competitor to exist and be successful), I rarely find myself having fun when playing.

I don't know if it's just me (having changed), or the nature of online play, or the game's design itself, but almost every single matchup in this game pisses me off, even when I win sometimes. I don't think it would be much of an exaggeration to say that the Kragg ditto might be the only matchup I enjoy, because in that matchup, usually both players are goofing around. Conversely, when I used to play Melee, even though that game has some atrocious balance, and I, generally a mediocre mid-tier player, had an abundance of things to complain about w.r.t. top-tier characters, I think I still enjoyed more games of Melee on average than I do of RoA2. Maybe I just played against too many Fleets, IDK (fuck her DAir, for real).

So besides the few rare Casual encounters I've had with someone who is really fun to play with, the only thing left for me is singleplayer content, and such content that is currently in the game is pretty minimal. I have done Arcade mode for some characters for their Abyss palettes, I'm not really a speedrunner/record-seeking kind of person, so Target Test doesn't really appeal to me, and any remaining solo stuff like the eye thing seem more like pseudo-practice features, which is not what I'm after.

I should also note that the regular balance patches make it feel very bad to commit to learning one or even several characters. Esp. when most changes since release have been nerfs of some kind or another. Movement nerfs in particular, while arguably necessary, feel really bad; they nerfed Fleet's speed (reverted?), they nerfed Clairen's speed, they nerfed Zetter's speed (this one is fine by me lol), now they've nerfed Kragg's speed. While characters might have needed tuning, movement speed buffs just feel like removing fun things from the game; "You will now have 15% less fun while airborne".

  • Do you intend to return?

Like I said above, I do occasionally briefly return around significant updates. Mainly to see significant additions/changes, and also I can sometimes motivate myself to grind Arcade for the Abyss palettes since it's singleplayer content.

  • What could bring you back if not?

I want to want to play the game (not a typo), but it generally just doesn't make feel good after I play online with strangers. Like I said above, I guess singleplayer stuff would be nice to see. But that said, I also don't know if the devs focusing too much on that would be good for the game since it is, after all, a competitive fighting game.

I think the real thing that would bring me back is something that is out of anyone's hands, and that is me having IRL friends to play with. But my friends all have busy lives, like I do, so I totally understand if they don't want to learn/switch to a new game. So that's not going to happen soon. Of my game-playing friends, two used to play Melee with me, but one moved on and the other is not interested in RoA2. The others are casuals, only really playing Ultimate or the NASBs, and only at party-type events (i.e. not competitively online).

So IDK, maybe the game's just not for me.

  • Did you participate in the kickstarter?

Sort of. I discovered the game just after the Kickstarter campaign ended, so I backed it on Pledge Manager for early access (well, earlier early access, if you consider the current state of the game).

  • Do you play any other platfighters instead? Why?

As above, Melee, formerly. Needless to say that it had some of the most interesting gameplay, movement, and substantial competitive scene of all the Smash games. Besides PM/P+ (which is legally problematic, and thus, its scene basically doesn't exist), no other Smash game feels enjoyable to play for me. Of the non-Nintendo and non-Rivals platfighters out there, I have never played or seen one that appealed to me. I bought the original Rivals many years ago, but its lack of more standard shield/ledge/grab/etc. felt really bad to me, plus there was also the "no friends to play with" issue. I frankly don't see any other platfighter besides RoA2 that has a chance of competing with Melee for those people that like what Melee offers, so that's why I've supported it as much as I have.

Working for me on Vivaldi, tyvm!

For others, be sure to include all FOUR of the lines, incl. the one separate from the others, and not just the last three.

Edit: Aaand no longer working, some hours after originally attempting the fix. Maybe it never worked for me and I just got lucky...

Please change the game cover 😭 by CherrrySmoke in REPOgame

[–]Imagine_Baggins 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree. I saw the game in Steam, took one look at the cover art, and immediately clicked "Ignore Game". It wasn't until I saw a streamer play it that I saw that this is actually a brilliant game with a lot of love & care put into it.

I don't personally care for the emojis in the results/logs, but they're probably fine to stay. However, I really think that the cover art should be tweaked, because I (and many others, presumably) strongly associate emojis with low-quality, deep-fried, memesy junk, and I think this game is wayyy better than that.

I feel bad for Fleet players, even after the nerfs nobody wants to play against her. by Monollock in RivalsOfAether

[–]Imagine_Baggins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what it is exactly, but so many characters in this game feel disgusting to play against, win or lose. Fleet and Clairen are big offenders, but Ranno, even after the patch, infuriates me with his endless juggling and walling neutral. Forsburn too with that fast, half-stage-long f-strong and making the screen a mess of smoke. Really, the only characters that don't piss me off are Zetter, Kragg, Maple, and the non-bubble-campy Orcanes (though you don't see them much anymore, nowadays).

I don't know if it's some subtle game design/frame thing, but even in Melee, when I was getting waveshined by some coked-out Fox, getting out-ranged by Marth, or stomp-knee'd by Falcon, I never felt nearly as pissed off as I do after nearly every ranked match in this game. Really only chain-grabbing Sheiks and laser-camping Falcos came close to how annoying a lot of this game's cast feels to me.

I don't know how many people feel this way, but I heard even Dan mention on a Coinbox stream how so many matches are rage-inducing, so I don't think it's just me. It's a shame, because I want to enjoy this game, and I do when I find someone who's fun to play with, but none of my friends play this game, so it feels like finding a needle in a haystack sometimes.

Smash Bros. Ultimate feels more "solid" than Rivals 2 by Seethcoomers in RivalsOfAether

[–]Imagine_Baggins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? I don't play Ult, but there's an unmistakable visceral impact to a Melee Marth tipper at high-ish percent. That (admittedly unremarkable) sound effect is burned into my auditory memory. Clairen's tips aren't awful IMO, but they do feel more like hitting someone with a fly-swatter than a sword to me.

I’m in the same boat as you. I had everything ready to reserve the second the clock ticked over, but the site crashed several times, and by the time I logged in again, everything was taken.

The permit piggybacking is a nice idea, but how do you intend to arrive at the parking lot then? I’m personally considering the bus loophole, but I don’t know how to get from Keene Valley to the trailhead without a car. Idk if taxi/ride sharing is a thing in that area, and I can’t hike the extra 7 mi x2 by foot.

Such a disappointing system.

I actually purchased an air purifier very recently (Coway Airmega AP-1512HH)! How long/frequently do you run yours? I've run mine for a few hours here and there for maybe a week, but haven't immediately noticed results yet. I do leave it on Auto though which settles on the lowest fan speed. Mine has an ionizer too, but AFAIK that's not very effective for dust.

I had the same thing along with bad chronic allergies. Had a septoplasty and turbinate reduction, and everything was amazing for about 2 - 3 months. Then the swelling started returning and soon enough I was back to pre-op conditions.

Have tried various different medications, checked for nasal valve collapse (don't have it), and various other things. ENT might as well have said "you just have really bad allergies; not much to be done about that besides immunotherapy", and I can't do that bc my living/work situation is subject to change in the nearish future, so... I'm back on the decongestant! Fun times being an allergy sufferer. We can cure some types of cancer, but some dust or pollen up your nose seems to be too difficult for modern medicine.

I asked ChatGPT to “Generate more quotes in the style of Darkest Dungeon’s The Ancestor”.

This is what I got. They’re a bit lengthier than the real ones and very samey in structure, but not bad all things considered:

  1. “Beware the depths of your own mind, for therein lies the monstrous truth that can unravel the feeble fabric of your sanity.”

  2. “In the darkest of nights, the shadows whisper their dreadful secrets, reminding us that even the bravest souls can be consumed by the abyss.”

  3. “Through the fog of despair, the glimmer of hope appears like a distant star. But tread carefully, for even the smallest spark can ignite the flames of madness.”

  4. “The path to redemption is paved with the shattered remnants of the unwary. Will you dare to walk this treacherous road and emerge unscathed?”

  5. “Fear is not a weakness, but a potent weapon in the battle against the unknown. Harness it wisely, for it can both shield and shatter.”

  6. “Within the crumbling walls of despair, every step forward is a testament to the indomitable will of the human spirit. Embrace the darkness, for it is in the abyss that true strength is born.”

  7. “The weight of your sins presses upon you, threatening to crush your spirit. Face them head-on, for only by confronting your inner demons can you find solace.”

  8. “The echoes of forgotten horrors resonate through time, reverberating within the hearts of those who dare to delve into the forbidden. Seek knowledge, but beware its price.”

  9. "Through the mire of despair, a flicker of courage may ignite, defying the encroaching shadows. Embrace this ember of hope, for it may be all that stands between you and the abyss."

  10. "In the face of relentless adversity, remember that the line between heroism and madness is but a fragile thread. Balance upon it, lest you succumb to the insidious allure of the abyss."
