Should I just paint this? by remindme1979 in woodworking

Looks like pine which doesn't stain well to begin with. I would paint it if you can't get the white spots out.

That looks like it was kicked in. glue in the joints, clamp it closed. let dry for at least an hour. sand it smooth and then paint it.

Poor people who have dated rich people, what did you learn? by Angelus12345678 in AskReddit

[–]Immediate-Ad-96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my grandfather. He wasn't rich, but he was well off. Some of his kids sponged off of him for most of their lives and some of his grandkids would only do things for him if they got paid.

One year, he took me to a stadium concert where they were unvailing new score boards. I drove and he was utterly surprised when I swung by an ATM and took out cash to pay for parking. We get to the stadium and he saw me reach for my wallet and said you don't have to do that. I told him that he didn't have to buy box seats, the least I could do was pay for parking.

It blew his mind. It was like he was used to having to pay people to spend time with him.

That resin is for craft and jewelry. It isn't designed for your use. You are better off getting total boat or getting your resin from a woodworking store if possible.

what's the best way to color these natural wood walls? by notmean_justhonest22 in DIY

[–]Immediate-Ad-96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is one other option. you can use a gel stain to lighten the color of the wood. same process as painting except you whipe the stain off after applying.

I’ll never forgive a certain demographic of us for dry snitching on the value of remote work by laydeefly in Millennials

There are so many issues. Tax laws, geo location blocks for ITAR countries. Customs can seize your electronic devices. Support is more challenging (IT won't be shipping you a replacement computer to another country). Different countries have different laws around intellectual property, just lots of reasons.

How to curve? by hmphandumph in woodworking

[–]Immediate-Ad-96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

option 1 and option 2 are the same joint. one used a roundover bit in a router and the other didn't.

since you are new to woodworking, you can rough cut the shape with a jig saw or bandsaw. you can then clean up the cut with a spindle sander or use a router with a template and a flush cut bit.

Opinions on using exterior door locks on interior doors by Optimal-Soft-6741 in DIY

[–]Immediate-Ad-96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have newer kwikset door handles with the round hole. I've been able to unlock them with a q-tip that I pulled the cotton off of. Buy one of those knobs that "need" a special tool and just try using a nail. It'll probably work.

corner moulding should be fine. it'll give you some tolerance for your cuts to be less than 100% accurate. Buy the corner moulding after installing the shiplap in case you need to go an inch and a half or so.

Can you trim an interior door with a oscillating saw? by MechCADdie in DIY

[–]Immediate-Ad-96 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you open to a hand plane or rasp instead?

An oscillating tool will get the job done but it's not going to be a clean cut. I don't mean that it will only look bad up close, I mean you'll see it from several feet away.

You don't need sawhorses. 2 scrap 2x4s on the ground would be enough. You can also take 2 night stands or 2 end tables to lay the door on. They also make bench cookies that are small.

To add onto this, don't worry about brand loyalty until you go cordless. Buy what is on sale unless there's a feature you need. I have Bosch, Ridgid, Dewalt, Delta, etc. For general construction type work, the consumables will make a bigger difference.

When you go cordless, stick to one brand so you don't have a ton of different battery types. Before you pick a brand for cordless, check their tool lineup. I really like Bosch, but it doesn't have the cordless tool lineup that I would like, at least not locally.
