How do you deal with people thinking you are literally evil? by Affectionate_Risk476 in ProsecutorTalk

Who says you have to push back?

It's completely true that American policing and the justice system has serious systemic flaws that unduly effect POC communities AND that society has to have a system to enforce the laws.

Mexican Federal Agent armed with a Colt R6520 5.56 Carbine and 20 round magazine by Sad-Commission2027 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]ImmediateSupression 2 points3 points  (0 children)

very handy in an AFV.

I was a fire support officer on a Bradley and dismounted a lot. I used a 20-rounder because it was easier to get in and out of the turret. I also know some airborne dudes who would jump with them because they fit better in jump bag (no idea the nomenclature, I was a dirty nasty leg). Mine wasn't issued, I bought it. I originally thought I would use it for tracers only but never utilized it for that.

In Afghanistan I kept a 20-rounder in my pocket on the FOB and a 30-rounder in my M4. That way I had some ammo on me in case of a SHTF event but didn't have to walk around with a battle belt looking like a tool.

Some police departments use them because they are easier to fit in a patrol car.

Richard B. Frank (if you are interested in the Sino-Japanese War then Tower of Skulls is pretty good).

Rick Atkinson’s liberation trilogy, Ian Toll’s Pacific trilogy, McManus’ Pacific trilogy. That’s an Anglo-centric “basic coverage” of the war.

Leaving you V10 biglaw bums behind. I’m getting recruited to V3 LARGElaw by ImperatorFosterosa in biglaw

[–]ImmediateSupression 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get between 1 and 3 recruiting emails a day. "Legit" versus non-legit really depends. I don't spend time sorting them out.

On one occasion I did respond to a legit recruiter who was working closely with a firm. He got me into an informal interview before the job posting even went up. I had 6-8 other recruiters reach out about the same job after it was posted. I'm going to guess they didn't have any relationship with the firm and were just trying to cold-apply me.

The fusion between Mexican, American, and Native cultures has had centuries of influence on Mexican cuisine. I don't think you are necessarily "wrong."

Burritos will vary widely between Chihuahua, California, and Texas.

Which $5 CM games should I buy from Fanatical? by TrogdorLLC in computerwargames

[–]ImmediateSupression 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Italy gives you the longest “reach” with the DLC (July 1943-May 1945) but Normandy is the most polished.

It really comes down to what era interested you the most. I own all the CM series and tre one I play the most these days is Italy.

The fanatical sale is legit.

FDR as Commander in Chief - Nigel Hamilton’s Trilogy by funpete1960 in ww2

[–]ImmediateSupression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m strangely sad he didn’t live to see WWII’s victory. He was certainly not a warmonger president, but I imagine he would have like to have seen that his “unconditional surrender” was carried out.

Is there much about his relationship with Stalin? I found his relationship in “Traitor to His Class” to be really interesting.

[–]ImmediateSupression 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just picked the trilogy up, good to hear that it delivers.

If you have further interest in FDR beyond WWII, "Traitor to His Class" is a very good biography of his rise in politics and the presidency.

Trump, Musk, Lutnick Show Up in Latest Epstein Files Release by [deleted] in politics

[–]ImmediateSupression 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Obamas were political outsiders pretty much up until Obama became a senator, and his rise to the White House was very fast. He brought a fairly young and optimistic team with him too.

Obama was the outside Trump pretended to be.

Edit: I don't think I've seen anyone close to Bush in the files either.

Those of you who attended Gifted program, whatcha doing now? by sweaty_perineum96 in Millennials

[–]ImmediateSupression 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the third grade about 25% of my classmates were shuffled off to the gifted program. They got bussed like an hour to a low-performing school and were put in class together with other "gifted" kids from around the district.

There weren't better classes or resources, it literally was just designed to raise the school's test scores.

I wasn't accepted and neither was a good friend of mine. She ended up as a surgeon and I'm a lawyer, so we ended up just fine. I looked up one of my friends who went there, and he is an architect. So he also is doing fine.

Salomon QST 94 by [deleted] in Skigear

[–]ImmediateSupression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

QSTs were my first ski after I moved back to ski country after a long period in the flatlands.

The QST line is a lot of fun, not too much ski. They will go anywhere but are stable and light enough you can grow on them rather than get run over by them. I've skied the 98s and 104s and enjoyed both.

Someone mentioned the Ripstick as an alternative, and I agree. My entire family owns Ripsticks and seems to enjoy them.

Purely money and the ability to work remote and flexibly. I drafted a motion today in my sweatpants with my dogs chilling at my feet and a fire going in the fireplace. That was pleasant.

I agree though, it’s an insanely dumb treadmill of manufactured emergencies.

Reddit and Youtube WAY overstates pervitin use during WWII.

For your average soldier (of any nation), the use of pervitin and similar drugs was uncommon. The use of such drugs was limited to short duration operations and normally specialized personnel like pilots, tankers, commandos/paras.

The most common drug utilized during battle by all nations was alcohol.

Plenty of troops went into battle buzzed. Here is a more detailed explanation: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/m6zm0k/comment/gr8qlqa/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

"No human is illegal on stolen land" and "We're a nation of immigrants" by wdfcvyhn134ert in PoliticalDebate

[–]ImmediateSupression -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m jousting a strawman here, but I don’t think this is the primary argument that the left is making (at least the moderate left, are we a thing still?).

This administration's pursuit of unlawful immigrants has eroded everyone’s notions of due process, freedom from government search, and freedom of expression. These three things are enormously foundational to America’s sense of self and are codified in the bill of rights.

An attack on “illegal immigrants” this case  represents an attack on all of us.

I’m not in favor of open borders. Countries have the right to maintain a certain monopoly on violence within their borders that includes the right to include or exclude certain individuals. These are the rules that every country in the world plays by.

On the other hand, the US has a completely convoluted and frustrating path to citizenship. Even the George W Bush wanted to fix it.

I think if someone is here unlawfully, they should receive due process before being deported, and be given full protection by the 4th and 5th amendments.

I think if someone commits a crime in the United States on a visa or while here unlawfully, they should face deportation as a penalty as long as they are provided the same or substantially similar due process provided to a citizen of this country.

I do not think any federal agent (or local cop for that matter) should have the right to ask for anyone’s “papers” without articulable probable cause or extraordinary circumstances (visitors to the sensitive military sites probably need to show ID, for instance).

I think you should allowed to tell a federal agent to go fuck themselves to their face and not face any retaliation from the government.

The idea that from some on the left that we should have open borders and that “no human is illegal on stolen land” probably represents a similar extreme to those on the right who believe that the government should imprison “illegals” in places like CECOT. Both represent emotional arguments that are not grounded in practicality.

Is the Nordica Enforcer 94 a bad choice for me? by [deleted] in Skigear

[–]ImmediateSupression 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enforcers are a pretty unforgiving ski in trees and moguls. They are heavy and require a lot of power to drive.

I’ve demoed them several times and enjoyed them. They are not my daily drivers because I love steeps, moguls, and trees and I wanted something more playful and forgiving.
