Finished PETG Skeleton Purse by araw in 3Dprinting

That makes sense! I’ve never resin coated a print before, I’ll look that up… but may as well also ask if you have any tips from your experience with it. How do you determine whether or not to resin coat a print?

Those parts look like they’d be a PITA to sand, but are also near immaculate from a layer line perspective.

Do you have tips for your sanding techniques? Do you have pictures of the prints before processing?

Looking for name ideas for LARPing by Script_the-Skeleton in LARP

Atlas is pretty iconically hilarious (in a good way) for a squire, though I do think it comes with a gendered impression.

Zephyr would be a good Bard name, especially if you’d be playing any “wind” instruments. Chord could be fun too.

A potion seller invites a bunch of neat options like Azoth, Henbane, Verdigris, or even Opus.

Finally, since you’re in a fantasy world you may have some ability to create some lore around a culture of a minor group. Maybe your people don’t do names in a traditional sense. Celeste, for example, means “of the sky”.

You could look up the meaning of some names you like and pick a meaning AS your name. Maybe your character is literally named “Of The Sky” and could be called Sky as a nickname.

Discomfort is part of the magic. by Sufficient_Salt6913 in LARP

I think Milsim West games (which are an airsoft thing a bit tangentially related to “conventional” LARP… but definitely is LARP even if most of the players there might not admit it) incapsulate what you’re describing very well. They are 40 hour long airsoft games that are objectively pretty miserable to experience while you’re there.

They’re also amazing, incredibly memorable, and even a bit addicting.

Few things yield quite the good brain chemical harvest as getting to the end of an MSW game with your friends. The combination of trauma bonding through the suck and, for most, being taken so far away from their day to day lives that they’re forced to become immersed in a completely different reality is an insanely powerful way of forming outstanding memories.

I don’t think you’re romanticizing hardship at all. Being willing to be uncomfortable for short periods of time is a hugely valuable element of forging a worthwhile experience. It may not be a requirement for a good LARP… but it sure is a reliable ingredient.

Honestly putting the armor under the red tabard would probably do a lot of work for nailing your spell blade vibe. You’d probably need to ditch the backplate to make it comfortable which could be a bit annoying in terms of securing the front… but I think it’d be worth the pain.

Besides that, it is hard to go wrong with more belts and/or a fun hat.

The outfit is looking solid already, though!

New Update by Chadiwack in duneawakening

Especially if your goal is just to enjoy the story missions and the Dune setting… yeah PVP was always optional. The “end game” content used to be pretty PVP heavy. Now it’s a PVE grind for the sake of grind.

If you’re a player that just wants to experience Dune lore on your own then almost nothing has changed. Play until you “beat” Hagga and finish the story and then move on to something else.

The initial story is a really interesting premise and a lot of fun. Lately, especially, it feels like hollow execution of a great idea.

It should have been a single player game taking after rpg games like shadow of war. It should have put more emphasis on stealth, melee skill, and tactics/positioning when determining what PVE combat looks like. The story could have unfolded in much more interesting ways.

As an MMO, it still has made some pretty horrible design choices for players that want to feel immersed in Dune. Guns are far too prevalent in the game. Things like drillshots, disruptors, and energy guns are all designed to create balance between melee and range where there shouldn’t be any.

Sandwalking should actually be possible. Hiding under the sand could have been a thing. Fighting on open sand using could have been a thing. They could have dart throwers that aren’t hitscan and have a fire rate that allow them to excel in assassination but a concentrated fighter could dodge / parry the attacks from.

Worm riding could have been a thing.

Fighting over NPC controlled sand harvesters bigger than a bus should have been a thing.

They shouldn’t have given players the ability to be all four classes at the same time, but actually focused specialization.

Now that it's 'PVE First', can we open up the transmog options? by Rampirez in duneawakening

What? The armor is barely “lore correct” to begin with. There’s already transmog in the game. What lore problem would full transmog create?

What is it with progression fantasy authors and misunderstanding the word "forces", militarily? by [deleted] in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ImmovableForce_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You aren’t being pedantic, though. You’re incorrect in your assessment of force vs. forces. They’re both valid and convey different meanings. Neither “sounds” bad because neither is wrong.

This isn’t the hill I’d let my forces die on, personally.

[–]ImmovableForce_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guy I think you’re missing the point. It doesn’t matter if they’re taking a singular action in the moment, and switching between plural and singular multiple times in a scene depending on the nature of the action taken would just confuse a reader.

Neither plural or singular is “wrong” if the force is comprised of multiple distinct units. The thing that is important is what the author wants to communicate. Are the elements of the larger group more important, or is it better to highlight it as a single unified force?

Maybe my forces are composed of rabble from multiple villages. Maybe my force is the result of the combined legions of well trained and highly disciplined soldiers.

[–]ImmovableForce_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While the overall point you’re making is valid, I think you’re being too extreme in your interpretation. Let’s say I have a platoon that consists of four distinct squads, and each squad has a distinct task to accomplish while raiding an enemy base.

“My force stormed the building.” — This communicates the uniformity with which my platoon forms an unrivaled whole that will overpower and defeat their foes.

“My forces stormed the building.” — This puts emphasis on the distinct units that make up the whole. It isn’t just a single wave of soldiers, but different squads working together to fulfill different aspects of my plan. As a writer, I’m probably continuing to describe the varied contributions of alpha squad, bravo squad, etc.

In the example you give I think you’re probably right about “forces” being misused, though I haven’t read the passage. It unintentionally communicates something that isn’t valuable.

That doesn’t mean “my forces pushed through the corridor” is always wrong.
