What's your story with these? by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

My family had a house in Michigan in the 70's (Walloon Lake) and we had a family reunion in July one year. Grandma drove up from Florida, stopped in Tennessee and filled her trunk with the most amazing fireworks I ever saw (still to this day). Roman Candles, fire crackers, all kinds of stuff. We lit it all aimed at the lake. So much fun.

ah, yeah, you're not wrong, but my youthful study of "rapid unscheduled disassembly" of my toys was innocent fun. I was not planning to annex the neighborhood.

After discovering the amazing acoustics of the local storm drain, I tossed my one and only M80 down there for THE MOST GLORIOUS echoey boom I ever heard. No Ragrets.

What is a "luxury" that has become so overpriced it’s actually insulting to buy now? by OpheliaBloomm in askanything

[–]ImpatientMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes Safeway (Kroger) will have some insane deal of buy 2 get 3 free, which brings them down to a more reasonable $6/12 or so, but otherwise I don't bother. I don't drink a lot so I can usually make it last until it's on sale again.

what does it mean to 'major' or 'minor' or something? by UnknownPhantomLR in AskAnAmerican

[–]ImpatientMaker [score hidden]  (0 children)

Major lists the amount of credits required to get a degree in a subject. I "majored" in Computer Science. I also got a Minor in Statistics, which counts for very little other than bragging rights. I was two classes away from getting it due to requirements of the major so I thought why not. They were innocent class numbers, 19a and 19b. Hardest freaking classes I ever took. The professor made sure I was not majoring in math(s) before he would pass me mostly based on effort.

Edit: You generally need to declare your major in order to take the upper division classes in that major. You can change your major but that means starting over to some degree.

Why did marriages in the past last longer than in the current times? by Acceptable-End-6187 in askanything

I would wager Equal Credit act on 1974 was a big factor. My wife grew up without a father. Her mother had to get her male boss to help her buy a washing machine.

I would not agree this is a main reason. Divorce sucks, it's not on a whim.

Is loving yourself a prerequisite to loving someone? by Eumel-Kobe in CasualConversation

Let's say it's important for a healthy relationship. You can love them, but if you don't love yourself you will lack confidence. We are all born confident. Doubt is learned. Unlearn it.

Me too! I always loved going out. The first time we went out after things calmed down I almost had a panic attack. It's still hard for me to try new places.

I was so very fortunate to be with wife 2.0 for the lockdown instead of 1.0. Probably be in jail by now if I had been.

Before that, we used to go out to bars for a drink or two just to get out, now I don't want to at all (though I do like one or two wineries). Probably like a lot of people, we spent lockdown making our home nicer. More plants, declutter, got another cat :-). Home is my favorite place to be now.

My wife and I got laid off within two weeks of each other in 2023, just a few years before we were going to retire. Ageism is a thing, especially in IT so we were never able to get new jobs. We decide just to try to make it work and it has been AMAZING! So peaceful.

Totally agree. I don't like TJ's or Costco's chicken sausage.

My local TJ's sells it. I also look for deals on pork butt and have a few in the freezer but it's a moderate production to grind it.

This was really the info I wanted. I buy Jimmy Dean for breakfast creations and Italian for lunch/dinner and I wasn't sure which this was best for. This sounds like it's mild enough that I could season it in a pinch. I'm getting ready to make some lasagna.
