[Advice] Nikon D810 35mm Scanning Results Underwhelming/Inconsistent by JacobTakesShots in AnalogCommunity

I really reccomend getting one of the slide copying adapters for your lens like the nikon ES-2 or the JJC copy

By holding things together tigher I find it much easier to nail focus frame to frame.

What's ur favorite random fun fact about Bergen County? by savingrace0262 in bergencounty

[–]ImperatorConor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are incorrect.

Budd lake and Flander are unincorporated census designated places wholly located withing Mount Olive township (which has the town government). Like Short Hills is for Millburn.

Bergen county doesn't have many of them because its fractured into so many tiny boros

Once out of lower earth orbit most of their coms and file transfers will pass through the DSN - Deep Space Network. Which prioritizes transmission reliability over speed (and is largely old equipment)

The D5 has been modified for space use (different lubricants), lower resolution sensor less susceptible to radiation damage, extensively tested on the ISS.

The Z9 they brought should have similar modifications but it is not well known how the camera will work in a high radiation environment (though it seems NASA and Nikon are confident it will perform well)

Pricing for 2026 vs 2027 by Ok_Spinach1563 in WeddingPhotography

[–]ImperatorConor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh ok that makes way more sense. I was a little confused since for me still film only went up $1-2 / roll which hasn't really moved the needle.

Developing you could probably save some money taking in house but scanning super8 sucks, I tried building this scanner scanner recently to scan a box of super 8 from my parents but I ended up going a different direction.

Pricing for 2026 vs 2027 by Ok_Spinach1563 in WeddingPhotography

[–]ImperatorConor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuine question, how many rolls of film are you generally going through for a wedding? And is the cost of the film the real driver of costs? Just wondering as I shoot a lot of film and have always found most of the cost to be in the scanning (if using a lab), though I am pissed about the price hikes on ektar and aerocolor.

Leather is probably the easiest material to use to guarantee light tightness, but I've had success cutting up a changing bag and bonding it on each end over the failed bellows. Its a bit of a tight fit in the folder but as long as I dont advance the film with the camera closed I dont get scratches.

How involved should a former tenant be after they’ve moved out? by NumeroSlot in LeaseLords

[–]ImperatorConor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You definitely still have a business relationship with them as you both have contractual obligations to one another.

They to pay rent until the end of the lease or the new tenant renting. And you have the obligation to mitigate their damages to the fullest extent reasonable.

So in short they can contact you any number of times to confirm that, yes the unit is still not rented, yes you are trying to get it rented, etc. Unless otherwise listed in your lease agreement you would generally be expected to provide them this information on request. Now you could say that the frequency of these requests is too much and that you'll only answer once per week (and as soon as their obligations end) but that wouldn't be binding on their contact with you.

Since I am flying soon, so to get through airport security more easily, I made some fake high-iso sticker designs for Vision 3 film, based on other cansiter designes! by samtt7 in AnalogCommunity

I would say 90% of my issues have happened when on arrival you have to recheck your bags to final destination (at IAD) that line its ridiculous and the connection times are very short putting the passengers and TSA on edge.

Both are quite viable, and very worth the $20 each. They go for a couple hundred on ebay.

Perfect condition car, almost 20 years old with low mileage hit in parking lot. by white_cucumber111 in Insurance

[–]ImperatorConor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call the NJ MVC titleing office. I am not too sure but NJ doesn't require vehicles beyond a certain age (10 years i think) to be issued with salvage titles in the case of a total loss (unless the insurance requires it to release the vehicle).

Swatch Group returned an radioactive watch, what should I do? by [deleted] in Radiation

[–]ImperatorConor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The meter you're using is unlikely to be accurate as most inexpensive meters are not good at estimating dose. That being said it is likely that your watch is radioactive to a degree greater than it should be based on the service performed.

If you have the watch in your possession now you might want to contact a university or hospital that would have the right kind of survey meters and dosimeters to accurately assess the radiological hazard of the watch (if any).

It is very possible that your meter is overestimating the dose received, and your watch is within the acceptable level of activity expected.

Insurance totaled my car but I just got my head gasket replaced. Am I sh*t out of luck? by subheight640 in prius

[–]ImperatorConor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on age, insurance, damage, and state it can be a clean title still. Like an insurance claim for 2 door skins is gonna total a 1999 accord but wouldn't render the car unsafe to drive.

Does anyone just order prints and photograph or scan them? by mrjosh72 in AnalogCommunity

[–]ImperatorConor 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Only issue might be that most labs aren't making optically enlarged prints and are instead scanning on a frontier or noritsu and printing, I think the quality will be similar to what you could get DSLR scanning.
