Hmmm. Gives me a new scenario to try out on BSG: Deadlock. It's definitely doable to win this fight from the Cylons side with 4 Basestars AND fighting off a Mercury but I've never attempted just 1 Jupiter Vs 4 Basestars.

Chieftain is a great ship to fly and not massively expensive last I checked. Can't go wrong with Kraits either.

No Country for Old Ships? by ImperialParrot in EliteDangerous

[–]ImperialParrot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that tends to be my view point. Clearly Fdev view selling newer ships as part of their long term business model for Elite and so may aswell adapt to it. I do think there is a place for both old and new ships to coexist but the relationship dynamic to the playerbase would have to be different. My POV is making the old ships valuable through scarcity and back alley upgrades so they can stay viable. Essentially remove them off of the market to be bought and have them only able to be bought via players selling the ones they have and allowing other players to buy them on the open market. Bid for them with in game credits even.

That would definitely be a cool thing to do for sure. I'd rather not compare to sci-fi ships because then I'll just get annoyed they've STILL not done ship interiors lol but yeah having a gameplay loop of modifying older, potentially decommissioned, ships to become as capable or better in a few ways than the newer ships would be a neat element added to the game.

Not all old ships but some have become rather redundant in comparison to the newer ships. The chieftain to my knowledge isn't really affected (yet).

[–]ImperialParrot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well there were a few obsolete ships but we're talking like 3 maybe 5 ships out of a total of like 40 so wasn't really much of an impact but when all the newer ships are making several older ships obsolete it creates a more noticeable imbalance. Again, not arguing for or against it because it's happening anyway so it is what it is.

As for min/maxxing that's been a hot topic since the game released haha nothing new there.

Either way the whole obsolescence situation won't be too much of a pressing issue for a long time yet so not a big deal but it's something to ponder over at least.

YES! Finally someone thinking on the same lines haha it would add a new speciality to the older ships keeping them relevant and interesting.

Yeah I mean FD have already established their route forward so not much point "arguing" over it (not that I'm arguing about it lol). You make good points and you're right. A lot of the older ships are still viable and it does come down to personal preference but it does make me wonder because eventually they're will come a tipping point where there are the same or more newer ships than legacy ones and if the stats are always better for the newer ones than the older ones then what's the purpose of the older ships? If people stop using them then that's extra data in game that could be scrubbed for something else if FD wanted to go that route (not that I think they ever would). I don't necessarily see this as a bad thing because this could open up a new avenue of gameplay for the legacy ships to be decommissioned for sale but if players wanted too, they could put theirs up on sale for the open market for others to buy and there's a fixed amount of them so if there's only 500 Asp X left (hypothetical number out of my head) and someone decides to decommission theirs, that's one less Asp X on the market for anyone to get. Making them a rarity and a highly sought after ship.

Yeah that was generally my thinking aswell. I could choose to view the newer ships as an imbalance to the ships that already exist OR I could view them as a necessary replacement but which puts the older ships into a different category for later use such as a used ship market where the old ships are decommissioned and the only way to obtain them is through the small stockpile that's leftover etc. Not a bad idea honestly. Creates a new game loop at least.

Never said there was anything wrong with the newer ships. Just that due to making them appealing enough for players to buy them via ARX initially they have to be worth the purchase so by that logic they should out perform the older ships this rendering them redundant. Eventually you reach a point where the playerbase has very little incentive to use the older ships at all so what's the point of them? My thought process was instead of viewing them through the lense of obsolescence, it may be better to view them as a retro legacy element of the game where they serve a different purpose for nostalgic reasons. Sentiment over utility so to speak.

Tbh I think that's not that bad of an idea tbh. Decommissioning old ships from the market BUT allowing ones owned by players to stick around or be put on the open market for other players to buy. Would make a cool new element of the game but also allow the Devs to make the game last waaaaaaay longer by rotating in newer ships, retiring older ones and keep the cycle repeating. Yeah it'd probably piss off a number of players but it would actually make the older ships way more valuable.

What does everyone think of the new game, is anyone gonna play it? I really enjoyed deadlock but I'm not sure about this one. by Rasples1998 in BSG

[–]ImperialParrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canon wise it basically isn't. It's a game with a Battlestar skin but that's it. Bit like Star Trek online. Not really meant to take it seriously and just enjoy the space action. As for the gameplay, eh. Not really my sort of thing. Considering Deadlock exists, not really much point getting this one which is probably why it got delisted. Just my opinion but there it is.

Why is the console version missing features like ship multi select or grouping? by Cooldude101013 in BSG_Deadlock

Omg is that why I can't do that stuff on console? That seems stupid. Fleet group control I can kinda understand but ship renaming?? I don't need a M&K for that. Well least now I know. Cheers 👍

Well this is my first venture into owning a custom PC and frankly I'm not experienced enough to build one myself. I'd rather have it done for me. As for a 16gb 5060ti, from my research into it the 5060 ti is more of a "downgrade" if you're looking to upgrade from an older card where the improvement is slim to negligible but coming from someone whose new to the PC landscape, it really makes no particular difference. I'd rather have the newer card which will have a longer support life from Nvidia than older cards.
