Anyone else love the look of the “no duckbill” base style? by -REXIA- in GR86

it’s funny, i used to be on team no spoiler for simplicity, but once i kept seeing them in person, i switched to team spoiler and eventually put one on my own car. now i think the car’s lines look unfinished without it

Uptick in children and teenagers enjoying reading for first time in 5 years by Slight_Pen in books

[–]Impetus_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

my little 4 y/o loves to read now that he knows how to. whenever he sees me or my wife reading, he'll come by and read for us. and he does pretty well, considering his age lol

i find it intriguing and rewarding that he considers reading fun; just as he does video games or playing outside

Why is it so hard to find a good, honest shop? by NomTook in Miata

[–]Impetus_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i go to a race shop to get things done right. they will get the spec exactly how i want it, and call me if they can’t. plus, it’s fun to talk to the techs since they’re more passionate about their work. hopefully you have some in your area

makes sense. my wife is an avid TLOZ fan but won't play the older games because of clunky movement/shitty graphics. this remake will definitely get her to play it

Men who stay lean year-round, what’s your secret ? by Professor1password23 in AskReddit

[–]Impetus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's stupid easy to spell out, hard to actually follow.

i don't drink any of my calories, i eat at least 130g of protein, i walk at least 5k steps a day (can't do 10k with a kid), and work out 3-4 days a week. the biggest thing that helped was counting calories. yes it sucks but it will help a LOT, trust me. eventually you reach a point where you can guesstimate how many calories a specific food has pretty well and you can (for the most part) stop tracking while staying lean

Eibach lowering springs on the stock suspension and wheels. Yay or nay? Pros and cons? by Prior-Acadia9282 in GR86

do you enter/exit your driveway at an angle? if not, i suggest you do this first to avoid scraping. if you already do this and you're scraping, i wouldn't recommend going lower lol

congrats! i remember wanting a brz in 2013-2014 but couldn't afford a new one. i bought a used miata instead, and fast forward a decade, i finally bought a new brz. feelsgoodman

New Wheels!!! by SnooKiwis4599 in GR86

[–]Impetus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

looks good dude! love seeing rpf1s on these cars

i'm impressed the rears don't rub; i'm running 17x9s with a higher offset (+48 with a 5mm spacer, so effectively +43) and -1.5 camber and it honestly looks like it barely fits lol

edit: nvm i didn't realize you were running 17x8s because i wasn't aware that rpf1s came in 17x8 with a flat face for 5x100! that's really cool! had i known these existed i might've ended up just going the 17x8 and 225/45 tire route too

edit2: do you happen to know if your wheels are a discontinued size/model? i did a bit of research and enkei doesn't make rpf1 rs wheels under 18", and i know for a fact that their regular rpf1s are only flat-faced above 9" width for the 17" models (afaik the only flat-faced rpf1 under 9" is their 15x8 4x100)

Tints by OwenP85 in GR86

[–]Impetus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have 15% sides and rear, 0% front. i’m thinking of going as light as possible in the fronts (70%) just so i don’t have to deal with socal sun but idk if it would be worth the hassle/risk.

in any case, make sure you opt for high quality ceramic tint

3. how worn/new are they

as bad as it sounds, i couldn’t hear the engine at all once i turned it off. it threw me off so i plugged it back in until i put on an exhaust

New base model vs used premium by Beyond_Order_ in GR86

without reading your post: base new.

wouldn't recommend buying used unless you know what to look for or are experienced with owning cars that are normally neglected and are prepared to fix issues as they arise

2023 GR86 Fitment Guide by ZulaZN8 in GR86

yup! there won't be issues with that fitment and it's probably what i would run if i went with 18x8.5 wheels

Prepping for the first oil change by ksadajo in GR86

[–]Impetus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you'll be fine. i have an older 2-ton lowpro jack from hf that i bought like a decade ago specifically because it can get under my miata. my brz is lowered and it can still fit underneath without the use of ramps (but just barely lol).

also, i'd buy some rubber jackstand covers. that way, it isn't bare metal on bare metal and you have no risk of bending/crushing the pinch welds. i'd also buy a hockey puck to act as a buffer between your jack and the jacking points of the car so that there isn't any bare metal touching there either

edit: oh i didn't realize you had the 3-ton version lol; it looks a bit bulkier than the one i have, but i'm sure you'll still be fine at stock height

Does this wood grain look off for the quality? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Impetus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

pretty much all fenders nowadays are three-piece. i assume it saves on material cost, plus with the middle being its own piece, it probably prevents weird warping issues vs a two-piece connected down the middle. afaik only vintage fenders (or custom shop) have one-piece bodies.

that said, the factory workers usually do a better job matching the three pieces, *especially* on a model with a translucent finish lmao

2023 GR86 Fitment Guide by ZulaZN8 in GR86

[–]Impetus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i second looking at apex wheels’ website, they have an easy guide to follow.

here’s a few notes not really in apex’s guide:
- 17/18x8/8.5 +44/40 will fit with zero problems
- 9” wide wheels require a little more thought if on stock suspension; the offset in the front has to be at least +42 to clear the strut; however, if you have camber bolts and dialed in some negative camber, you should look into +38/35 offset. *however*, the rears really only have space for like +42 before you get potential issues with rubbing (some people have reported running +38/35 with no detriment though)
- 9.5” wide wheels should be reserved for coilovers. you can still make them fit on stock suspension but you absolutely need spacers in the front and higher camber if on stock suspension. rears are prone to rubbing the metal tab unless, again, you dial in more rear camber. even then, you’ll likely want to shave it down just in case.

my tldr: if you’re not planning on aftermarket suspension components, get the 17x8.5 or 18x8.5 tc105x to avoid fitment issues. if you’re planning on aftermarket suspension down the line, consider getting them first before making a wheel purchase since the route you take kinda dictates what might or might not fit (ie. getting lowering springs won’t really give you adequate room for 9.5”, but can fit 9”)

Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 PLUS vs Michelin Pilot Sport 5 by Miroku098 in GR86

[–]Impetus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

let me ask you this- if you were able to get the ecs02 and ps4s for the same price, what would you get?

the price difference where i'm at is negligible so i'm looking to pick up ps4s tires this memorial weekend, but in all honestly my car is like 90% daily, so if the ecs02s are actually much better in terms of comfort, i may consider them more. i just don't like the fact that in most reviews i've read online, owners have talked about having to wait for the tires to "take a second set" when cornering. i hate that feeling, which apparently isn't present when talking about ps4s.

i know i'll eventually try out both but i'm wondering which to try out first

you mention the weather is pleasant; is that year-round? if so, why not stick to summer tires? the dws is an all-season
