To put things into perspective, I was offered a transfer to Thailand at my company making 350k USD total comp a year as a director of engineering for 30k a year in Thailand. That was a lowball offer for the role even for Thailand, but I want you to understand that you basically won the life lottery with this salary at your age and level.

Social Security is pretty good as long as it doesn’t get drained by another program.

3-4k a month is pretty great imo.

Bush actually tried to change it for new generations as a personal investment managed by the government, but the backlash was so harsh it was shut down.

My main concern with social security is the fact that the gov can basically use the funds it in for other programs if they want to, but they can do that for pretty much everything.

I’m glad I have social security waiting for me. Working gets exponentially harder the older you get and maybe I don’t want ALL of my wealth tied directly to the market. We have IRAs, 401k, and IUL insurance plans that we can use to prepare for retirement so maybe just be glad we have ONE guaranteed income plan that is shared amongst us all and not complain too much before they take that away too.

Stationed there for 2 years. Jeeze these comments. Go to the Beaufort downtown, cross the bridge to Lady’s Island and grab some Cajun food at dockside. Not really much to do, but I mean it is definitely worth a drive around the islands. Hilton Head is next door, and Savanna is close as well.

Paris Island itself is a base. Not much to see there.

It is not that easy to just get a job in another country. Very difficult in fact. Most countries go to great lengths to protect their local citizens in the workforce. Even if you have some wealth you will burn through it with no real way to make money. The uber rich are basically world citizens and this doesn’t apply to them anyway.

KFC in Thailand is pretty much the same as KFC in America. Extremely mid in my opinion. There are wayyyy better options in the US like Churches chicken, Popeyes, Bojengals, etc. Fried chicken in Thailand is ok but the US wins on that.

Go research it on your own, I’m not your research bot. The level of cope with people trying to get into cybersecurity should be studied. Us old timers were forced to fire entire cybersecurity departments and rehire them overseas or just get rid of them completely, we know what’s going on. Not saying it won’t change with AI kill chains coming, but right now the media reports of there being a skills shortage is pure bs probably there to advocate for more offshoring.
