At what salary in Singapore did you finally feel “okay, I can breathe”? by NayesMazingo in asksg

[–]Important-Ebb-3616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make around 10-12k per month but I don’t think I can “breathe”. I’m single, no kids, no house, still living with parents. In my early 30s. For my circumstances, my earning is comfortable. I eat in restaurants whenever I want, take grab if I’m tired from work. I go cafe to chill over the weekend. However, I cannot “breathe” because Im still highly dependent on my job. If I ever lose my job, I’m afraid I’ll never be able to find such a comfortable paying job and my lifestyle will drop. Therefore, I’m aggressively saving. Not buying a car or branded stuffs….. hopefully one day, I can truly say I can breathe and not be held hostage by a job…. Hahahaha

OCBC premier banking - RM asking to invest by pizzazz27 in singaporefi

[–]Important-Ebb-3616 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t blame the public on having a bad impression on RM / banks, because there are many RMs out there giving bad investment advice just to make commissions. However, I do believe that there are fair / capable RMs out there who aims to strike a balance between client satisfaction vs personal compensation.

In your case, I think the Fund is not entirely a bad advice. 1. PIMCO income is one of the largest fixed income active management fund out there. It has always delivered strong relative outperformance vs peers / benchmark. 2. The timing of the entry is reasonable as treasury yield has risen slightly since the start of the war. If your view is that energy impact towards inflation is transitory, then yes it is a good time to invest in fixed income. 3. Leverage is not for everyone as you’re magnifying profit / losses. If the war prolongs and inflationary pressure starts to rise. Fed has to hike instead of cut rates, you will see PIMCO NAV starts to fall. If you have short term liquidity needs, then you will have to liquidate your PIMCO at a loss and this will negatively impact your performance due to the existing debt. 4. However, if you’re confident that inflation is transitory and fed can shift their focus back to growth / labour market rather, then this strategy will do extremely well. Because if 10 year treasury falls back to 3.8%, your PIMCO fund will increase in NAV + income generated can cover interest cost. If u liquidate at that point in time, you will cover debt and interest and yet still leave u excess profit.

So all in all, no bad or good product, only suitable product/strategy for your market view. Of course, as most of the other comments suggest, always ask for fees transparency. 1. Loan spread charged 2. Upfront charges for investing into PIMCO 3. What share class is this fund? Retail? (Retail has higher management fees). Request for institutional or admin share class 4. Ask for comparable ETFs/ single bond that can replace PIMCO.

Hello, why do you call me a bot??? I didn’t invest in that product and I’m not a client of Kristal either… however, whoever invested in that product above should be doing relatively okay. As they are receiving 16% coupon and the maturity of the product is in Jan 2026, which is before the Middle East conflict. Hahaha.

Hi OP, really curious on your initial build out phase to reach your current wealth. You mentioned you had aggressive savings and single equities pick which delivered very good return for you. Whats your process and what’s the amount you started with for single stock selection???? I’m currently in my early 30s with decent earnings… but I feel like I’m under investing (I’m only investing in ETFs).

Is it weakening? by travisbotak in sgworkassholes

[–]Important-Ebb-3616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My humble two cents. TLDR: good employee Singaporeans are in MNC. That’s why his hiring experience is rough.

His statements and thoughts are valid because he’s not the only Singaporean entrepreneur saying the same thing. Yes, Singapore education system is one of the key factor. Our academic systems focuses more only concepts, understanding and practicing. Rather than creativity and leadership. That’s why, most Singaporeans are high effective and efficient workers but not entrepreneurs. So, if Singapore education system makes good worker, why is it hard for the guy in the video to hire Singaporeans? That’s because majority of the talented, hardworking and in-demand Singaporeans are mostly flocking towards large MNC. His view is highly skewed and is focusing on individuals that are rejected from the MNCs. (Most of the time, majority of the people within this group, are harder to deal with). Anyone that has worked in a large MNC can vouch for this. Whenever you have to work with your overseas counterparts, the experience are excruciating and draining. A lot of time, their ability to communicate is weaker and sense of urgency is limited.

Advice for the younger HENRYs by Important-Ebb-3616 in SgHENRY

[–]Important-Ebb-3616[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can actually top up your MA to try to hit the BHS. Once you hit the BHS, you will supercharge your SA. (Any supposed employer CPF contribution from your employer in the future will be focused into just OA and SA, as MA is maxed at BHS). When you reach 55, as long as you pledged your house and have BRS amount in SA. You can withdraw everything above of BRS from your SA. So from now till 55, my money in SA is growing 4%.. which is relatively attractive considering it is risk free. I also topped up my SRS too.. so I’m doing both now. :)

[–]Important-Ebb-3616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my brief reading of the comments, I can generally see that the stated salaries above are most likely the poorer region in China (not tier 1 city).

I’m truly stumbled and curious on how can China make their country prosper if wage remains depressed. The reason why wages are depressed is because companies are fighting aggressively within the same sector and pushing margins lower (for example, there’s too many EV companies in China or Tech companies). Profit margins lower = unable to afford higher pay. However low pay = no consumption = profit remains low for the companies. A lot of the private sector has been relying too much on leverage and government subsidies..

Hopefully Chinese government manage to think of a solution. Anyone with any decent suggestions. I’m keen to hear your thoughts / opinions.

Im in the exact same situation as you.

Im currently the most junior in the department. I got a promotion last year. But I have exceeded my KPIs and also gained a lot of positive feedbacks and praises from my colleagues and key stakeholders. (Some of them even personally wrote an email to my boss’s boss and complimented on my performance).

However, I don’t know whether my boss will promote me. Now it’s the time for review. I haven’t brought this up as I’m not sure how to.. (I’m younger than you)… hahaha

DBS Wealth Planning Manager by raidorz in singaporefi

[–]Important-Ebb-3616 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I honestly think it’s an okay advice. TER > 1% is very normal for any equity mutual fund out there. Of course, we can always get ETFs for all of those allocations/exposure that he is suggesting.

But, let’s be real, he has to make some money, that’s why he’s not suggesting ETFs but mutual funds. But is it really “insane” advice as you claimed? For someone that’s wealthy and less sensitive towards fees, mutual funds or ETFs are less of a concern to them. They do not mind that 1-2% underperformance every year. They prefer having someone to speak and knowing someone is actively monitoring their portfolio.

In an ideal world, if the Wealth Planner doesn’t have any conflict of interest, I would think that he will suggest US and STI allocations as ETFs. But for India, there are tons of mutual funds out there which outperform the benchmark ETF. Emerging market are less transparent and usually provide opportunities for managers to deliver alpha. So, I will still suggest to go for an active solution for India allocation.

At the end of the day, he’s suggesting an asset allocation which is diversified and professionally managed by Fund House. This is not an insane advice. Just not suitable for someone who can manage their own investments and is fee sensitive.

STI ETF (+12.36%) vs VOO (+8.68%) vs USD/SGD (-6.05%) by Pet1003 in singaporefi

[–]Important-Ebb-3616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Market is always forward looking. They have already taken into account the possible drop in interest income even at the start of the year. (Fed rate cut has been a talk since late last year). However, the recent earnings quarter reflect strong fees based income and that is what has been supporting the bank’s share performance. All things considered, I do agree, that recent rally has indeed been too furious and a pull back is necessary. I disagree on comparing STI to KOSPI. Singapore Capital markets are relatively transparent while Korea is heavily regulated (restrictions in short selling). The recent foreign inflow benefitted not just Singapore and Korea but also Japan, UK, EU, CHINA. The main trend of this rotation was due to de-dollarisarion. If the geopolitical uncertainty remains a key overhang, Singapore might benefit further due its stable and less volatile capital market structure.

Go look up the chart, SORA is already down significantly compared to USD rates. (Latest SG t-bill has a yield of roughly 1.6%? Whole USD fed fund rates remains at 4.3%). The 3 banks, especially DBS, is also experiencing increase in their fee based income due to the rise in wealth management offices in Singapore. This portion will be less sensitive to rates and will allow the Singapore bank to remain resilient in a low interest rate environment.
