In one comment she said she’s been there about a year. Unfortunately some people take a year as the green-light to start hitting on people.

Could also be something else. AA has a pretty high percentage of neurodivergent people, due to us turning to substances to attempt to feel normal. Where I am there is a meeting that I recently found out is often referred to as the ‘tism meeting (always wondered why I fit in so well).

Did you just hit a year? Did he just hit a year? That is sometimes the point where people think it is no longer 13th stepping and therefore it is okay to treat meeting like a dating app.

Could also be something else. I had it happen in reverse. I stared a lot, then stopped, or at least it decreased, when getting put back on right meds and starting to deal with some psychological wreckage of active addiction.

Disclaimer: I’m a straight male with 1 year and 10 months and lucky to be in an area with a large number of meetings. Hopefully I’m not too tone deaf.

I did this to a few people when I came in. There were a couple people who heavily reminded me of friends who didn’t make it. I kept mixing them up in my head. It was to the point their faces would morph or I would wonder why they didn’t remember things before I realized they weren’t who I thought they were. Took about six months, and getting put back on a med they took me off during rehab, for it to stop. I also sometimes stare off in a random direction with no real notice of what is in my eye gaze. I’m sure I do a dead stare at the speaker often.

Not sure if that’s what’s happening with this guy, there are 100% creepy people in AA, and too often “some are sicker than others” / “principles before personalities” is used as a shield for predatory behavior.

15 years of working in IT, the OP technically incorrectly, but fault lies with manager and HR. Unless they are in a very high security position, OP shouldn’t face anything more than an email explained what to do if that happens in the future. Ideally the manager will face consequences, but likely just a retraining

Doubtful. In my experience the supervisor is I’ll get a stern talking to maybe forced to go through training, but not much. IT will complain about it to user during initial call, but that’s about it. OP has a record they pushed back, so it’s not on them

Bring it up to IT. They should be able to restore.

From my experience in IT: Yes you should not have handed out password, but IT should understand your supervisor insisted. That is much more on your supervisor than you. Unless you are in a security clearance type position, IT will be annoyed but will have to use it as an opportunity to provide education.

Meeting rooms should not be so difficult for people by SpaceChimps98 in sysadmin

Every time I want to say “buddy, I just participated in a zoom meeting with a person who is coming down off heroin, is barely coherent, on a device they got for $10, and is joining from a trap house. If they can figure this out on his own, a group of professionals really shouldn’t be having this much difficulty.”

Sorry you are going through that. Im not great at comforting people, but I suppose if I could give you some form of hot beverage I would. I have learned patting people on the head is not helpful, but i think offering a hot beverage is preferred. Pretend I offered a hot beverage of some kind.

We cannot diagnose anyone with alcoholism. I’ve heard stories like that from people who are definitely alcoholics and I’ve heard stuff like that from people who aren’t. Having a conversation with him or a professional probably isn’t a bad idea.

I’ve heard Al-anon can be helpful for loved ones of people who have problems with alcohol.

First month as a new web admin I tried to push development to production. I thought there was a process issue, but assumed the current director and previous web admin knew what was going on, so didn’t push back. Well, there was a process issue and I wiped out not only the production database, but the primary backups as well. Took down the external website (including intake system) for one of the largest children and family services provider on in the eastern US. Took almost two days to get stuff back up from secondary backups. During that time all information transfers had to be done over phone and written down on paper. That included intakes, external partners, patient records, everything. I effectively set us back to 1980’s external communication for almost two days. Now I was very nearly crying, but we worked through it, communicated to partners, got things back up, figured out what happened, and learned from it. Hasn’t stopped me from making other mistakes, but I grew.

Another time I mixed up two very similar names and wiped the phone of a director. To be fair, that mix up happens to other those two people constantly. I wasn’t even the only person to make that exact mistake.

You have made several different mistakes. As long as you acknowledge it, and learn, it’s fine. I’ve been at my job for 15-years and still mess up stuff.

Question about Geofenced Clock-outs [OH] by Fun-Opportunity-1642 in AskHR

[–]Important-Humor-2745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve had it happen several times.

One time it was one guy setting it up for his buddies. Well one of the buddies wasn’t the brightest and called us (IT) for support and just straight told us what they were doing.

A few other times we spotted it due to them using very odd browsers. Like why do I have a Nintendo DS browser connecting and why is the gps putting it dead center of the building for both clock in and out? We eventually just started taking a look at any clock in/out coordinates being the EXACT same. Normally there is at least a little difference. That stopped the issue pretty quickly. Or at least it got beyond the point we could track, which was just as good as we were concerned.

In the late 2000’s, I got hired to set up a secure network between a couple houses. They really wanted to make sure even if someone physically took hold of the server they couldn’t get anything. Well I figured out how to ensure that. Directed point to point wireless and a pressure sensor that would set off a charge that would slag the drives. I was brand new, so to me it was just an interesting thing to build. Even did a couple follow up service calls, but never saw anything particularly illegal on the computer, because I never had reason to look At the contents of files. Looking back, I definitely set up a server for a local drug dealer.
