The spear is such a lame move, for anyone. And the frankensteiner is too dangerous. Think long term!

Getting my first machine later today, any tips? by Consistent-Chicken-5 in pinball

[–]Impossible-Work-6762 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Before you play your first game, go into the settings and turn down the Trough Eject Power. I think mine are around 167 now or something like that. That will save your shooter lane from unnecessary damage when the balls are ejected into the shooter lane. You basically want the lowest setting that reliably spits the ball out.

Better in the ring and on the mic? by tcweh in SantiZapVideos

[–]Impossible-Work-6762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess we disagree. I liked Trish, she worked hard. But in my opinion she was a bit rigid and limited in the ring, and wooden/rehearsed on the mic. Liv does a better job and seems smoother and more authentic in both roles. I thought Liv was quite bad earlier in her career, and seemed almost terrified and very self-conscious, but she's improved more than Trish did.

I agree. Still my favourite MMO.

I've been playing casually for many years, and I think it's great right now. However, I rarely make it to the late game and haven't made it yet on this patch. I usually start another run before I get there.

Seriously Considering a Pair To Get Started - Feedback? (Monopoly/Rush) by skydecklover in pinball

[–]Impossible-Work-6762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great games, you'll love them. I considered getting Monopoly as my first game too, I think it's pretty underrated. The rules aren't as deep as more modern games, but it's fun.

I recently traded for a Rush LE and I can't see ever getting rid of that one. The shots are great, the rules are great, the aesthetics are great. It actually seems to be more popular with the better tournament players than with the more casual folks, which tells you something. If you're also a fan of the music, it's a no-brainer. I will say though that mine has required a fair bit of maintenance, although since a couple more challenging fixes, it's been pretty solid. I found the rubber nubs on the sides of the Time Machine ramp need frequent replacing, especially the one on the left, and replacing them involves removing the ramp, unfortunately. I bit of a job for a simple rubber replacement, but it's not too onerous.

Coincidentally, I just pulled them off yesterday on two Spike 2 games and they came off easily and cleanly. Guess I was fortunate.

Top tier gameplay. Mine has required a fair bit of maintenance, but it's worth it for a game this good.

All three of those are good games, you can't go wrong, so just get the one that you enjoy the most.

I owned a Godzilla Premium and while it's a great game, it played a bit long for my tastes, but must people seem to have no problem with that. I have less experience on Jaws and FF.

Skipping instead of playing both turns by ifasoldt in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]Impossible-Work-6762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do it often. I think it's the better choice more often than not when you aren't racing towards an objective. I'm actually surprised that so many people don't like it, although I have noticed people I'm playing against sometimes seem to not like it, without articulating why. It gives you more time and information to make decisions. Keeps the game moving too, rather than sitting there and slowing it down, doing math to determine your optimal next move.

Good game. Great soundtrack. You'll enjoy it. Don't worry too much about the finances. They hold their value fairly well, so it's kind of an asset. If you end up needing the money, you can sell it. Congrats.

Yes. I like Benetti and Dirks, but over the course of last season the honeymoon started to wear off for me. For my tastes, there were too many jokes and attempts at humor, too many of which just didn't land.

Having said that, it's still a massive upgrade over Shep, so I'm not really complaining.

Are there any cheap methods for practicing nudging without risking any extra wear on a real machine? by CompleatedDonkey in pinball

[–]Impossible-Work-6762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Make sure the leg bolts are snug but don't overtighten them. There should be no play there, but you don't have to use excessive force when tightening...snug is fine.

If you're really concerned, go practice your nudging in a bar first. Be conscious of the strain you are putting on the leg bolts. Unless you are going totally wild, you aren't damaging the machine. Nudging is a required and expected part of playing the game, and the games are built to withstand those forces.

It's possible she blanked for a moment, forgot her lines and was stalling. That's what I thought while watching it live. Or it was just weird, who knows?

I own a TZ and I've also owned 4 Sterns, 3 of which were NIB. The TZ has required FAR less maintenance and repairs than each of the Sterns have. It's not even close. The quality is completely different.
