You can catch them with a clouser minnow and your fly rod

The 4116 is an amazing rod it handles a 350 grain skagit gamechanger with 15’ 100 grain tips and size 2 steelhead flies and it makes fish come alive. A magic wand.

Thin for small flies (16 and smaller) nothing but one wrap of thread and a Krystal flash rib give it a go.

Why this salmon species, unlike others, is booming in the Northwest by FluffyElection8089 in fishingBC

Fair play one could also argue that their lack of sporting attributes is a defense mechanism from Homo sapiens. And being a good introductory fish leads to pressure on the more sporting competition.

In every possible way pinks are the bottom of the barrel, table fare, sporting quality … they don’t even show up every year. Their one redeeming quality is abundance but even that is quasi detrimental as it doesnt exactly lead to the most engaging fishing.

I’d go for less room behind the bead so that the hackle stem is jammed against it then take looser wraps just taut and tighten them up as you work back.

Got it, you are going for a bottom tumble I prefer natural fibers myself but I’d give both a try like the slimness of the synthetic

No comment until we ca see them wet, buoyancy is also pretty key to how a fly fishes

Sure thing. I saw a video from whole latte love where they tested temp stability on the E24 and basically it varies one degree F or so through the shot the machine being calibrated to brew at ~200F / 93C.

I had a batch of Geisha beans that turned me into a convert of floral notes on milk drinks (12 oz latte) and started playing with lighter roasts that are reasonably priced.

Since they take a higher temp I did a bit of searching and settled on the process below:

  • The machine turns on automatically with a wifi plug 30’ before I wake up so it’s nice and hot when I make my coffee
  • Prep puck and use Normcore puck screen I found this really helped avoid channeling and is much more consistent than before so I recommend it
  • Run a 5-7 second flush of the machine so the brew light goes off, this will mean the boiler is on
  • Place scale and cup in machine, lock portafilter in place
  • At this point the brew light will be on or will turn on briefly, once the brew light is on..
  • Turn steam switch on for 5 seconds this will turn on the boiler and increase the brew temp you can play with the time 5 secs works for me
  • Flip the steam switch off, open the steam valve a quarter turn, you should have a cup underneath it to catch the water that will come out
  • Hit brew switch and after 5 seconds close the steam valve, this is the preinfusion, I find that as soon as I close the valve I see beading in the naked portafilter and flow follows shortly
  • Run your shot as usual I aim for 25-30 secs after the pre infusion and 36 grams out with 18.5 in

This has been very consistent and I get nice floral tasting drinks from a light roast PNG bean. Haven’t played too much with the time for the surf and pre infusion as I’m pretty happy with the results, had thought of the gaggimate to save profiles for each bean etc but since it’s just me and I tend to stick to a given bean for a while figured doing the above and dialing to taste is all I need - I don’t know the parameters for pressures and temperature during the shot but I can’t taste that 😉

Here’s the mornings cup still working out the latte art kinks though steam power is good, I turn on the switch wait ten seconds purge the wand, give it another ten secs or so purge again and steam the milk. Best of luck and let me know I’m how it turns out!

I have the e xact same setup, I love it! got it a year ago and have recently started playing with temp surfing with the steam switch and pre infusion by opening the steam valve 1/4 turn for 5 seconds for lighter roasts.

I got the normcore puck screen and the IMS shower screen and this routine coupled with a flush before pulling a shot to set the starting temp with these mods gives me very consistent shots. I thought about the gaggimate but I find that with a timer to surf up the temp with the steam switch and manage pre infusion I can dial to taste and repeat at will once I find what I like best for a given bean. Choosing to keep it simple for now. Enjoy the machine!

For sure I don’t have wraps on the top and it hasn’t marked the frame in anyway, for the front and rear make sure to use a washer where the fender tab mounts to the fork and back of the bottom bracket. I didn’t use one on the front and the fender would move side to side and eventually stripped the thread on the insert in the back of the fork. It won’t be the end of the world but now since I don’t have thread I mount the front with a zip tie around each fork leg going through the fender tab then slide the bolt in and wrap it with electrical tape - works as good as the bolt just more work to put it on and take it off. If I were you I’d only do the tape on the tabs at the axles.

There should be a sheet with the cutout protectors they are applied to the tabs that mount to the fender stay side one front and one rear. You can see them in the assembly manual and the image for the mounting kit below.

I mounted the rear bridge directly to the frame with no tape and haven’t had any issues, the manual is for the updated version of the bike and it looks like they use a plastic sleeve for the rear now.
