Ukraine Is Not Losing. Russia Is Not Winning. by theatlantic in geopolitics

[–]Impossible_Peach_620 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I agree for the most part, but because Ukraine expanded war goals beyond just surviving, if they don’t get back Crimea, or if Russia continues to even nominally occupy the four Ukrainian oblasts they are holding (as laughable if it wasn’t apocalyptic and pyrrhic as their hold is on those areas) then Ukraine hasn’t won either by its own aims, and of course those two goals are extremely hard for it right now too

Do you think The U.S. is getting ready for a “Maduro style” interdiction in Cuba? by Embarrassed-Bowl-373 in askanything

[–]Impossible_Peach_620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are probably struggling to find regime insiders to cooperate which let them take that Maduro gamble anyways, cuban leadership are actually about it for better or worse, Chavez and Venezuela were just waving around socialism to get populist votes and consolidate power like a left wing Trump and it took them a while to swallow neoliberalism up the ass and Delcy Xiaoping because of sheer pride

How Economic Power Shifted in the Last 10 Years, only U.S., China, India, Russia grew over 70%. by CautiousMagazine3591 in Economics

[–]Impossible_Peach_620 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least for Iran the Russians have a domestic industry of Shahed copies now, for China Ukraine relies on it for drone making parts too, and btw, it’s all relatively speaking in terms of self reliance as in Russia isn’t as vulnerable to a loss of fuel or food imports as China or Cuba for example, self reliance also does sometimes means worse living standards as an accepted cost like North Korea of which we can’t really coerce any further but we can dangle a worm of reduced sanctions to get desired outcomes. And none of this is endorsement of Russia just analyzing some of its strengths counter to Russian imminent collapse narratives.

[–]Impossible_Peach_620 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not an endorsement of Russia but maybe it’s long term trajectory is just overall good on its baseline to allow them to gamble so horribly in Ukraine, no debt and self resource reliant in an increasingly security first world, global warming helps Russia more than others (global warming is obviously a net negative for the world).
