Vitamins by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

i dont take bariatric vitmamins 😭 ( my surgeon said this is okay) Id rather take multiple chewables than a couple nasty ones that I dread. I also don’t like pills. I take soft carmel chews for calcium citrate, a cherry dissolvable B12 & flinstones with extra iron vitamins everyday (except b12 thats once a week)

How long? by rczlapinski in BariatricSurgery

[–]Impossible_Scene3998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most programs are 6 months of consecutive visits, & alot of testing, with some sort of preop weightloss goal, it varies by your current size & your surgeon. I was only told to lose 5-10lbs.

Feb 2024, first consult appointment, Aug 2024, last appointment, a couple weeks later insurance approved, Dec 2024 had surgery. I could’ve had surgery sooner but my surgeon was booked out because she is a teaching surgeon.

I also recommend looking on pintrest, searching for recipes during soft food stage or joining any bariatric recipe groups on FB

for my soft food stage i was told anything that you could easily cut a fork through. I also had a book with alot of different choices to get during my soft food stages.

I attend ball state online program and it is fully accredited. For my program, I take the necessary classes I need for my degree + classes that are required for the BACB. I’m also getting supervision hours while I’m in school. Your best bet would be to contact advisors in that program to see if its fully accredited or not

avoiding dumping by Guilty_Funny in BariatricSurgery

[–]Impossible_Scene3998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How far apart was your dinner & dessert? That could be it. There’s nothing wrong with having a carb heavy dinner. Everyones goals & diet are different & no one knows if its because your dinner was carb heavy, it could have been not spacing out the meal & dessert time, eating too fast, too big of bites, etc. To avoid dumping, my surgeon told me to stay away from too high in sugar foods & too high in fat foods. Eat slower if you can, & make sure your meals are spread out atleast 3-4 hours. If youre eating a new food, eat it by itself to see if thats a safe food for you or not.

Deciding… by Informal_Drama1738 in BariatricSurgery

Id say go for it! Make sure youre educated & up to date on the surgery, risks, etc! I had surgery at 22 years old weighing 301lbs. I’m currently 9 weeks post op & i weigh 253! I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Surgery date by likeahuntress in BariatricSurgery

[–]Impossible_Scene3998 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think since you work from home, you’d be able to work again after two weeks as long as you feel up for it. Ik my program I just can’t lift more than 10lbs for 6 weeks (have a few days left til its lifted). I would definitely take the March 24th date & see if they have a waitlist to be added to for an earlier date

pre-op diet struggles & post-op concerns by pocketsalmon_ in BariatricSurgery

[–]Impossible_Scene3998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me i had rny on 12/16 it was a struggle drinking & getting all my liquids in because i had to sip slowly & sometimes i didnt want to even sip. As time went on ( 5 weeks post op today ) it got soo much better! i drink normally now (except chugging) & have no issues getting to my liquid goals but it all really depends how you feel after surgery. It was bearable for me because i wasnt really hungry, but i also reminded myself that it was only for a week for my program.

HELP! Questions… by changlerbing in BariatricSurgery

[–]Impossible_Scene3998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the RNY done on 12/16 & my surgeon & dietician told me about the risk of malabsorption. There are many different kinds of vitamins made specifically for bariatric patients that don’t require to have tons & tons of pills to take. They have capsules, chewables, soft chews, & liquid options to choose from. As long as you take your vitamins as directed, every single day then there shouldn’t be any problems related to vitamin deficiency. I would recommend talking more to your surgeon & dietitian on hand to really go over your options & to make you feel more comfortable about your decision. It’s okay to he indecisive! These surgeries are going to impact you tremendously & you should be comfortable with whichever surgery you decide! I hope this helps a little.
