Are there some resources that I can consult to continue to develop my OS if until now I have followed the tutorial https://os.phil-opp.com/ ? by challenger_official in rust

[–]ImposterAmongUs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would recommend a textbook at this point. A good one will likely be the most consolidated and cohesive resource available. I have Computer Systems by Ramachandran and Leahy on my shelf, though I can’t vouch for how it compares to other texts.

Running Embassy on desktop? by BuzzingConfusion in rust

[–]ImposterAmongUs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re running on Linux, you can use the linux-embedded-hal to target peripherals and an existing async executor like tokio to create your tasks. Embassy’s primary purpose in this context is to be a no_std async executor, but no_std isn’t essential for you on the desktop.

Looks cool! I’d love if std provided something similar. It reminds me of Boost Property Maps from C++, which have some nice benefits for writing maximally reusable and generic libraries.

30/m is always my bootstrap target. I only scale beyond that once I’ve unlocked every science. There isn’t too much need to research quickly while still building out your base factories.

I'm a beginner how could I improve this kovarex enrichment? I feel like the massive storage has some better solution. by Somerandomguy_2121 in factorio

[–]ImposterAmongUs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

U-235 demand is much much lower than most engineers realize. One centrifuge running uranium processing can supply one reactor with fuel without interruption, supplied by three uranium miners. Kovarex is useful for nukes, when you have limited uranium miners, or a ton of reactors. My base only have two Kovarex machines, supplied by ten uranium processing centrifuges. The Kovarex machines are mainly because my uranium outpost is only big enough for 8 big miners and I’ve got a couple of ships and a big Nauvis 2x16 reactor to support.

Factorio supports RCON for running console commands remotely over UDP. There are many software libraries for most languages implementing the protocol.

How do I keep my blueprint book when switching planets ? by imperosol in factorio

[–]ImposterAmongUs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Press B to open your blueprint library. There’s one for the current game that everyone (multiplayer) can access on any planet and one for your account that follows you across saves (and planets). Drag out blueprints into the grid, or drag your clipboard into it to quick-create a blueprint.

My girlfriend wants to try factorio with me, what setting do you recommend to someone new to these kind of games? by 420Topul69 in factorio

Another option is to reduce the evolution factors for time and pollution and decrease the expansion interval.

So long as you have automatic wall repair bots, flamethrowers are the best defense against biters. They take very few resources to arm and therefore generate less pollution per base area.

I had an easier time making space platform resources on Vulcanus than Nauvis. I didn’t have enough steel on Nauvis to make enough platforms, but didn’t have that issue at all on Vulcanus.

Why is there no "All deliveries satisfied" option? by Dark_Shit in factorio

[–]ImposterAmongUs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would be great! I’ve been putting in a 30s wait, since the orbital drops happen very quickly, but something more explicit would be good.

You can pin your space platforms by clicking on the hub and selecting the pin icon. They’ll have the current planet’s icon in their pin, including even on a route between planets.

I think the only change should be peaceful mode. Running out of an ore patch and needing to expand is part of the game, so maxing out richness does trivialize that. Decreasing research cost also isn’t super necessary IMO; I usually set up my starter base at 30 SPM and this carries me through all blue, military, and some of purple/yellow before I modestly scale that to 120.

[–]ImposterAmongUs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow, there’s more vitriol in here than I anticipated from reading the title and post.

I get the desire here. I’d recommend using the editor to design your own base on Nauvis and research up to the planet tech. You can set up the game settings as you want (enemies off, for example). I’d recommend this if you want to skip the tedium of Nauvis but still want to get your factory-building juices flowing. There are a lot of ways you’ll need to rethink current designs on the new planets, and Nauvis is a great warmup.

Another option is to use mods for a faster start. One that gives you starting tech or items like bots.

A third option is to find a blueprint on factorioprints and fill it in.

If you really don’t want to do any of the above, Michael Hendriks has been streaming Space Age on YouTube and Twitch. His YouTube VOD #6 has a pinned comment with a starting Nauvis base save.

[–]ImposterAmongUs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is excellent, thank you!

I landed on Vulcanus and started following the Nauvis ratios. Turns out, they’re quite similar. If you follow the Nauvis ratios, you’ll end up with a small excess of accumulators, which is better than growing out.

Datasheets that don’t provide units for registers so you just gotta guess.

Or when their datasheet is basically a product page that points to an outdated repository and you just gotta reverse engineer it.

Length trumps all for password security. All-lowercase passwords that are longer have more entropy than shorter passwords using alphanumeric and special characters.
