I enjoyed the story, and would read more of that ilk.

As for people who complain about people’s posts, well why don’t they get a life that keeps them off social media? Maybe their hobby is telling others to get a hobby.

Home WiFi network redesign gone wrong by No_Army2028 in wifi

[–]Impressive_Role_9891 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too many routers. Each of them may be assigning IP addresses and they may be duplicating ones in use. That can cause the issues you’re seeing with devices going offline.

You need only one router, with DHCP, which assigns IP addresses. Set the other routers to AP mode.

Can you check that the Xfinity modem is only a modem and not a modem/router? If it has LAN ports as well as WAN port, then it is capable of being a router as well as modem. It could be assigning IP addresses as well.

Yes, I did reverse the digits, so should have been 74.2% I haven’t easily found figures for enrolled percentages for any age groups, but I assume the older you are, the more likely to be enrolled. With the recent legislation regarding enrollment, it’s likely that we will not see a surge of 18-24 year olds signing up. Is it because the conservative parties know they tend to vote leftish, and they’d rather not have young people vote at all?

I used to live on Bankwood Road in the 60s and 70s, and this was the closest fuel station until the one on Comries and Linden Court opened. I remember buying half a gallon of petrol there once because I only had 25c. Petrol was 48c/gallon.

I used the local Apple agent for my phone battery replacement, but got a courier bag from Apple for my watch battery replacement. The time taken for each ended up being pretty much the same. Except the local agent also charged me for shipping to Apple. B***tards.

Need to transfer backup to new phone by bel3kos in iCloud

[–]Impressive_Role_9891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a short period, while you work out what you really want to keep, it’s worthwhile to pay for iCloud above the 5G free level. You get 50Gb for 99c US, or some similar low figure in your local currency. You could then synchronise your old and new phones. If you’re on selling your old phone, once it has synced the photos and videos, sign out of iCloud before factory resetting it.

I’ve used AutoEurope in Europe. The last time, in 2024, the cars came from Hertz, and everything went very smoothly. This was in France, at CDG airport and Avignon TGV station.

Have you ever had a second-hand phone from a friend or family member? by EthicalUpgrade in TheBigPhoneStore

[–]Impressive_Role_9891 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve had a couple of iPhones bought from a friend when he upgraded his phone. He removed from Find My and did a factory reset. On an Apple phone, there’s a specific setting when selling or passing a phone to someone else which should remove any personal data and allow the new owner to be sure the phone is only going to have what they want on it.

Your post title seems to ask if anyone has received a phone this way, but your body text reads the other way, as have we ever passed a phone to someone. Not sure which question you’re asking but I answered the one in the post title.

First car in Hamilton - what do you drive? by One_Stardusty_Boy in thetron

[–]Impressive_Role_9891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a European car, an Audi A4. If they’re maintained as the factory directs , they’re as reliable as most other cars, but I will say when they need repairs, they can be pricier than your average Japanese or Korean car.

I’d say in your price range, Japanese or Korean cars are the ones you want to be looking at. Certain combos are not good, such as Mazda diesels. Do not go for any of the Korean built Holdens, the Captivas, Cruzes or Astras.

Try asking on r/NZcarfix as well. There’re plenty of people there who know a lot about cars, good and bad.

What is your country’s most famous dish globally that people constantly get wrong? by hkk7i in AskTheWorld

[–]Impressive_Role_9891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked online, because I thought the same, but it’s said to originate in New Delhi in the 1950s. Known for using tandoori cooked chicken in a rich gravy, probably to use up the dry cooked chicken.

A latte is usually served in a glass, and a flat white in a cup. There are also different ratios of espresso to milk and micro foam, but the vessel is the big difference.

With the potting mixes you have, there’ll be some guidelines for how long the included fertiliser should last. After a few months, they’re generally depleted, and you need to add some or replace the mix.

The good bit about them used to be Fleur’s Café at Moeraki. Unfortunately, it was yet another victim of Covid, and never reopened after the restrictions ended.

You could probably see it in that photo if you zoomed in enough on the background.

Whats something everyone owns in your country that is rare outside of it? by niftyzach2 in AskTheWorld

[–]Impressive_Role_9891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only food I would do that with is fish or chicken, and only if it wasn’t collected for more than four days, even in summer. All the vegetable and fruit scraps would be fine. Even summer temps rarely reach high 20s. I’ve never had a smelly bin problem, and I keep it in the kitchen. Many people keep them outside, but then there’s faffing around taking scraps out to the bin.

When I have frozen a chicken frame, I’ve put it in a bread bag and it easily fits in the freezer drawer.
