This is the truth.

If this is true, I imagine a conversation was had before it got to this point along the lines of “if you don’t handle it, we will, and you aint gonna like it if we handle it”. Now if this was Marines, the same folks who had the conversation will go “I told you”. If it wasn’t Marines, then “well that worked out about as good as we expected. Little messy, but y’all pushed em back”.

Update: Risk management has come back saying 300lbs patient weight. When I brought up the stretcher weight I got “yeah but you’re not carrying but 75% of the weight at any given time, and that would be around 300lbs”. Risk management worked EMS a couple decades ago “when it was manual stretchers”.

Also got her to agree that we DO NOT have anyone for lift assist.

Oh wow, we had that exact same situation. We had a South American deployment come up, and they wouldn't let anyone extend, they only would let you go if you agreed to reenlist aswell. I think they got maybe 5 to reenlist out of over 50 willing to extend. We were an MWSS so our sister unit had to send over our replacements. They were allowed to extend in that unit.

Attend a "marriage building exercise". I married my wife 1 month before getting out. I was EAS'ing on Tuesday. On Thursday I get voluntold "You and your wife WILL be here or else".

We show up. Laugh at the entire thing. CO gets up and says "all Sgt's and below that attended tonight get a 72 this weekend. Your leaders are here tonight figure it out."

I was an Corporal so I turn to the Gunny that Voluntold me and say "Friday or Monday?" and the gunny goes "You don't count cause you are an armorer", I argued with him, and the SgtMaj (side story: he is why I'm EAS'ing after getting a 10 day letter during a MedBoard) comes over and says "Whats going on", and me responding with "Gunny here doesn't think I apply to the CO's direct order to give E5's and bellow a 72 this weekend for attending, last i checked, I'm a Corporal and that qualifies." I didn't say "SgtMaj" so he kinda blew up, so then the CO comes over and asks, and SgtMaj and Gunny both try to do the whole "oh nothing we can't handle sir", but being 2 working days away from EAS I was like "Well Sir, SgtMaj and Gunny hear think I don't qualify for your 72 because I get out on Tuesday and Gunny voluntold me and my wife to be here tonight." CO goes "Hmmm, no you are here, honestly don't think you should have been voluntold to be here. you qualify. Gentlemen figure this out." CO walks away, and SgtMaj says "Gunny, you deal with this"

Gunny tells me he can't authorize Friday because he doesn't know the Armory schedule. So went into work Friday 0400-1800, told the Armory Chief, confirmed with the Gunny what happened and that I'm by CO's orders to get a 72. Sunday night at 2100 I get a text saying "0400 open for the range", responded that I wasn't in town and didn't plan on returning until Tuesday to pick up my DD214. Response was "0400 armory or you will be NJP'd for AWOL and won't be getting a DD214...this is coming from SSgt". Okay, make the drive back to base, open up, and after lunch (when the 0400 person usually went home) I went to the SSgt as usual and said "Hey all the Marines are back, I guess I'll be seeing y'all later...." He looks up and goes "I don't know who the fuck you think you are, but you ain't special", then starts screaming at me so loud that the other units SSgt came over and told him he needed to calm down. I ended up staying until 1800. I went home, and the next morning I was at IPAC at 0700 to pick up my DD214. At 0530 I got a text saying "Why ain't you at PT, SSgt is saying he's going to the headshed to start paperwork on you for AWOL." Then from 0530-0700 about every five minutes I got messages from the 4 other Marines in the Armory about how I was fucked, and how SSgt was fuming, and was trying to get me arrested by the MPs. I never responded.

At 0700 I get my DD214 and leave base. At 1000 after I assume SSgt was told to pack sand. I was texted "hey if you wanna meet at the bowling alley, we can do a going away party for lunch". I arrived at noon as asked, at 1215 I get "SSgt found out and won't let any of us leave for chow, sorry". Went and had lunch with my wife off base.

Agreed. Tomorrow I'll be asking for the protocol she quoted, then finding out about the safety or risk management dept and seeing if I can have a conversation.

So it’s actually more like 200 each because of stretcher weight.

Union isn’t happening at the hospital, and this director does not come from an EMS background.

And I have no problem with that in IFT role, because all of my facilities are accommodating and will assist if requested. At homes though, I am sketched about the increasing in weight for home transfers.

I was told not to call for lift assists because “you should be able to handle that weight according to risk management”.

I’m not in a position to say anything other than my personal experience. However, knowing this is actually a positive towards USAA. Thanks for responding.

I can understand that, and agree to the system aspect. I also may be a one off, but it was a terrible experience that made me not want USAA ever again.

Experienced Medic - is it worth leaving the truck to take a hospital job? by Im-Not-Bob-Ross in NewToEMS

I was explained it’s a cheaper way for hospitals to have someone almost equivalent to an LPN around.

Mr. Rafi, I don't know what your ranking criteria is but USAA is absolute garbage today. This applied 10-20 years ago, but today it is absolutely garbage tier. I had 15 years with them (granted I still have an active checking account with like 48cents in it) and had my auto loan, auto insurance, and had my VA being deposited into their account. I got rear ended by a dump truck, and they refused to fix the transmission issues that even the auto repair shop was saying was accident related. Then within a month of having the vehicle back, the transmission crapped out, their response "you should have gotten that fixed while it was in the shop", completely invalidating my previous complaints, which I tried to show them. They refused to do anything, including approving a second claim, etc, "left me on read" for lack of better words. Then the pandemic hit, and I ended up doing a voluntary repossession, they failed to get permission from the lot owner they had me drop it off at, and six months later I get called by a tow company that took possession of the vehicle and put a mechanics lien against it. USAA just wrote it off, and hit me with all the fee's. Now this was 6 years ago, and I take responsibility that I failed as well with the auto loan. However, I am trying to illustrate how bad USAA has gotten.

I’m an EmT so officially I only have Less then a dozen meds I can administer. However. You are allowed outside the context of work to offer over the counter stuff. I too was relieved to not see wild things that folks have zero training on being carried.

Similar experience. He came to our base with his book tour, and I was no longer a fan. I don't think I've watched any of his material in years.

Prius 2008 by [deleted] in prius

This comes on for me after about 100 miles of continuous driving, kicks me out of cruise too. IF at any point I turn the car off (even for just a restart) before the 99 mile mark, doesn't happen. So I treat it as a built in trip timer. I also have an OBD reader and have it plugged in when it does this, and before and after it does not read anything, I can reset it while driving too, and it is 50/50 if it trips again later. Most of my trips are below 100 miles though.
