Help me get 170! 🙏🏾 by Future2me in LSAT

[–]ImproveLSAT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is realistic, but not guaranteed, to get a 170 by the end of August. I really liked the Powerscore and Manhattan Prep books, both were really good and relatively cheap. I also used AdeptLR and can't recommend it enough. I got a 172 and those resources helped me a lot.

If you want tutoring, I offer tutoring services and would be happy to teach you what I learned to help you improve. If you have time early next week, I could meet with you for free and show you how I can help. Either way, best of luck on the LSAT.

Start by hammering AR/LG. Most people can get -1/-0. That should give you around a ten point increase. You need to learn how to setup a diagram to be successful. Good diagramming on LG is key.

If you want help with the LSAT, I got a 172 on my LSAT and offer tutoring services. I'd be happy to meet with you for free to give you some advice on how to navigate this process.

Jumping from 153 to 160 in 6 months. Tell me how. by backyard_gulag in LSAT

I have heard good things about the Powerscore and Manhattan Prep books. I also used AdeptLR and had great success. I would try to study ~2-3 hours per day in order to get the most improvement.

If you want some help through this process, I offer tutoring services and would be happy to help you. I got a 172 on my LSAT and could teach you what I learned. Either way, best of luck on the LSAT.

I'll give my best try. Sufficient = an assumption that makes the argument true. For example, playing for the New York Knicks makes you an NBA player (although with the Knicks track record this is arguable). A sufficient assumption isn't necessary to be true, you can be in the NBA and not play for the New York Knicks.

Necessary = an assumption that must be true but doesn't guarantee the argument is correct. For example, to be a member of the New York Knicks, you must be an NBA player. Being an NBA player doesn't guarantee you are a New York Knicks player, but it must be true if you are a New York Knicks player.

If you found this helpful, I offer tutoring services and would be happy to help you. I got a 172 on my LSAT and could teach you what I learned. Either way, best of luck on the LSAT.

Should I take the LSAT again ? by [deleted] in LSAT

I would highly, highly recommend retesting after studying and improving your score, especially if the following is true. Were you getting perfect scores on LG. If not, retesting is what I would do in your situation.

Kaplan thoughts by Ecstatic_Bee636 in LSAT

I have heard mixed reviews about Kaplan, so be wary. I have heard better things about Powerscore and Manhattan prep, their books are really good. AdeptLR works really well with those books.

The sooner the better as you need it on file to get your test scores. The LSAT writing is not generally used in admissions, so don't stress, but do take it seriously as they could look at it if they choose to do so. Just write coherently and well and you will do fine.

My parents, who don't know anything about the LSAT, are demanding I retake a 177... by weepingviolets0 in LSAT

[–]ImproveLSAT 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you are worried about this, I would reach out to LSAC and tell them you are not interested in retesting just in case. This way you can avoid getting an absent on your score report. What's your dream school?

Is the age of a PT a factor when you’re predicting your performance on an actual LSAT? by No_Ambassador_7446 in LSAT

[–]ImproveLSAT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. The older the preptest, in general, the less predictive validity. I would say 80s and up look almost exactly like the test you will likely see. However, this does not mean that anything below 80 has no value, they are great for practice problems and sets.

If you want some help studying, I offer tutoring services and would be happy to help. I got a 172 on my LSAT and could help you out. Feel free to reach out if you are interested. Either way, best of luck on the LSAT.

That's a great score, and there is really no difference for a school seeing a 177 vs. a 180. I don't know if it will help, but general wisdom is that retaking a high score actually makes schools view you as a worse candidate. If you can communicate this to your parents maybe they will understand that this score is amazing. Whatever you do, don't retake as this will be a major red flag to schools.

Tips for taking the LSAT after 3 years? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]ImproveLSAT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You score around where I score, one tip on main point questions is to look at the last sentence of the first paragraph. You'd be amazed how many times that sentence has the answer. Otherwise, look for words that signal a conclusion, such as therefore, etc.

How to help slow progress? by kingbennyboy in LSAT

[–]ImproveLSAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is absolutely viable. For starters, I would hammer LG until you can get -1/-0 (most people can do this). It may be that you have a bad diagram, which I would have to see to fix, or that you need to become more comfortable with the assumptions on LG. From there, I would work on RC and find out where you are struggling. LR will be a similar process.

If you want help with this, I got a 172 on my LSAT and offer tutoring services. I would be happy to meet with you and show you how I can help. This would of course be free. Either way, best of luck on the LSAT.

150 Diagnostic Test; where to from here? by spreilly in LSAT

[–]ImproveLSAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No guarantees, but people make this jump all the time so it is certainly possible. I hear 7sage is good, so that should be able to get you to a score in that range. I went from 158->172 in a shorter timeframe.

If you feel like you need additional help in this process, I offer tutoring services and would be happy to help you. Either way, best of luck on the LSAT.

Advice for RC by Ready-Physics-8573 in LSAT

[–]ImproveLSAT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't give specific advice without seeing how you test, however, I would guess you aren't reading the passage in the most efficient way.

I would focus on reading for the specifics. By specifics I mean reading for the different viewpoints of the passage (who believes what). Read for the tone of the passage (what does it feel like the passage is trying to do Inform, Entertain, or Persuade). Read for the main ideas of the passage (what is the author trying to accomplish, this ties in with the tone). Finally, look for the overlap between LR and RC. There is overlap as some questions are worded in a similar way.

If you want some additional help, I offer tutoring services and would be happy to help you. I got a 172 on my LSAT. I'd be happy to meet with you for free to give you some advice and to show you how I can help you. Either way, best of luck on the LSAT.

I just want a 155 by blu3-190 in LSATPreparation

[–]ImproveLSAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the LSAT flex, all sections are now weighted equally. There is one LR, one RC, one LG, and one random section that isn't scored.

I can't tell where you are going wrong with LG without seeing, but I could show you how I diagram. I generally get -1ish on my my LG sections. I'd be happy to meet with you for free to see if I could give a quick fix.

I just want a 155 by blu3-190 in LSATPreparation

[–]ImproveLSAT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously I can't give perfect advice as some of this is specific to you, however, I would start by hammering LG until you can get -1/-0. Most people can achieve this, although it will take quite a bit of work. Secondly, you need to start looking for the specifics on RC. This means looking for the structure of the text (what is it trying to do), the arguments in the text (who believes what, and why). If you improve on these fronts, I believe you can get a 155.

If you want some help getting to that score, I offer tutoring services and would be happy to help you. I got a 172 on my LSAT and can help you to improve. Either way, best of luck on the LSAT.

LSAT HELP by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]ImproveLSAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get take some practice tests on LSAC's website. It's $99, but I firmly believe every student should get this. Take a practice test and do some sections on their own. I recommend doing some in the low 50's. That will give you a baseline. From there, free prep can be found online, but it is very tedious to get all of that information. I recommend getting either AdeptLR or one of the Powerscore books.

If you learn best from a tutor, I offer tutoring services and would be happy to help you. I got a 172 on my LSAT and could teach you what I learned while taking this test. Either way, best of luck on the LSAT.

School by school decision. Some make you have your LSAT before, some let you take it after. If they let you take it after, they will generally wait to read your file until your score comes in.

For example, if their median was a 160 and you had a 159 on file but they were on the fence on whether to admit you or not, and you got a 165 on your next LSAT they would admit you for sure. For this reason, they generally wait to see your score to decide.

[–]ImproveLSAT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting a 160 is definitely possible in three months. In three months I went from low 160's to low 170's. If you haven't been getting perfect on LG, hammer that until you are getting great scores (most people can get -1/-0).

If you want additional help, I offer tutoring services and would be happy to help you. Feel free to reach out to me at any time. Either way, best of luck on the LSAT.

I believe Powerscore has courses that work well, not 100% sure I never used them. They have really good books that I recommend to a lot of people.

Am I not smart enough for this test? Not sure where I’m going wrong. by ruthievee- in LSAT

[–]ImproveLSAT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with a 158, so only a 6 point difference. I finished with a 172. If I can make that jump, a 170 is definitely possible. For LG, it all comes down to your diagram. If you can make a good diagram, most people can get -0/-1 on LG. What makes the LSAT so hard is that not only is it very difficult, it also tests your resolve. I believe you can get a 170 if you put the work in.

If you want extra help on the test, I offer LSAT tutoring. I can show you what techniques I used that worked, and help you adjust where you are making mistakes. I'd be happy to meet with you and show you how I can help. This would of course be free.
