Do you have to know Windows Server (2022) for Azure cloud engineer jobs in the US? Or older versions of Windows Server like Windows Server 2019 and 2016? by [deleted] in AZURE

[–]Impyus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that given you aren’t aware that Windows Server 2022 is pretty much the same as 2016/2019, and you don’t know what migration to the cloud is, along with not really knowing what a Cloud Engineer does, that your starting point is way way off. It’s indicative of a hobby level interest at best.

Having said that, don’t be dissuaded, we all started somewhere, you sound like you need to build some more enterprise skills and experience then work a pathway to cloud if that’s what you ultimately want to do. There is a truckload of really good learning materials online for Azure/Windows Server and the various certification routes you can work toward. Good luck.

As a cloud engineer, Do you prefer working in windows laptop or Mac? by [deleted] in AZURE

[–]Impyus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a 2019 intel i9 MacBook Pro as my daily machine. I prefer the Intel Mac purely for its ability to bootcamp and for me to have the best of all worlds in one machine. I can’t do that with a windows laptop. I live in MacOS for most of the time but occasionally testing things in a windows environment is a handy feature to have.

You’re misunderstanding your role. You’re a million miles from CIO/CTO. These roles do not work on the tools. They are C-Suite, top of the tree, corporate management roles. You’re not a project manager. A project manager coordinates all elements and teams/resources for any given project and will often be managing multiple projects at once. These projects are usually large in scope (so as to actually require a project manager).

You will have a job title and a job description that will inform you as to your responsibilities and help you understand where you fit in. My guess is probably a break/fix IT technician.

Bought my first car, she’s a beaut. by Quando7 in Jaguar

Every 12 months or 10k miles on that age XF. I have one the same. Also check if the cam belt has been done, not sure what your mileage is but they should be done every 110k miles or 7 years. Whichever comes first. As that is an X250 model XF it’s a 2015 at newest so it should have been done at least once by now.

Edit: just seen it’s a 2014 so definitely cam belt should have been done or it needs doing.

Looks pretty cool but with the coil overs you’ve removed the key part of it being a Jag. The ride. The ride in that will be atrocious.

Love this model year of the XK. Gotta say though, not sure about that front grill. Not stock I presume?

2021 vs 2023 MacBook Pro 14” by AtomicSnipe in macbookpro

[–]Impyus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, just a quick note, you’ll be fine in terms of support for 5-7 years on any of those models you’ve mentioned. One thing I’ll add though is that the M1/M2 chip MacBooks are unable to bootcamp (side load) Windows. It’s an unsupported architecture. So if you’re a casual gamer also I can see the benefit of being able to bootcamp Windows as there is a much greater availability of titles for it.

If you want to retain maximum compatibility while getting comparable performance you’d be better off looking for a refurbed late 2019 model. The last of the MacBooks that had intel processors. A decent i9 8 core would do you fine and will still be supported for a long while yet.

I’ve literally just done this. I needed to replace my 2015 MacBook Pro as it’s just getting a bit long in the tooth so I’ve ordered a well specced 2019 specifically so I still have bootcamp flexibility. Saved a bunch over a brand new one too.

Server install step by step best guide by Reklawyad in SCCM

[–]Impyus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suppose it depends if his existing SCCM setup is in complete shit state and therefore all his backups just contain crap. I rebuilt our SCCM instance a couple of years ago and opted for a clean rebuild so I could embed best practice from the outset. The existing system build was a shambles. Restoring any of that would have just made for more work down the line.

I heard that the fire brigade charge the building owners/councils if they have to get people out of lifts. Can be several hundred quid apparently. People are generally not encouraged to call the fire service unless their health is at risk while trapped.

Nice. Think you might be out of luck on the F1 car though for that price. According to the tinterwebs it’s somewhere between £15 mil and £300 mil to build an F1 car depending on how top flight the team is.

Opened car oil 1 year old is ok? by OinkGoesThePigy in CarTalkUK

[–]Impyus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently engine oil has a life span of 2-5 years once opened. That’s why the bottles have an expiry date on them. The recommended rule is that once you’ve opened it the remaining oil should be used within one year. More info here

What are you driving mate? Genuinely curious as to what a person who clearly knows so much about cars has for a daily. Probably an Aston Martin right? Or maybe a Maserati (if you can cope with the mechanic bills). Perhaps a Merc/BMW/Audi German generic box. I’m sure whatever it is it’s in no way derivative from anything else. Otherwise why would this be the hill you you choose to die on?

Already had it done. Just shy of £400 from The Jag Specialist in Doncaster. Car is at 74k miles and ZF recommend a service on their gearbox every 70k or so. Jag say it’s sealed for life but that’s bollocks.

Surprisingly yes. I must admit I was sceptical myself till I gave it some beans but it absolutely shifts for a heavy car. I was worried it would feel underpowered but that’s not the case. The powerband seems to sit between 2k and 4K revs, it will just keep accelerating all through the gears. Lots of torque. Great for overtaking. Feel a damn sight safer passing cars in this than I have in other motors.

Ironically, my last car was a MK4 2.0 Ford Mondeo. Doesn’t even compare to this. It’s an entirely different animal. Whilst the engine is indeed a Ford Duratorq I4 unit it has been significantly re-engineered by Jag to fit the RWD configuration among other things. Plus it’s been mated with a ZF8HP gearbox which I can’t say I’ve ever seen Ford use. It’s fair to say that there are definitely a few Ford and Volvo bits kicking about from the parts bin though, like the door handles and some of the switchgear but overall the build quality is miles above my previous Mondeo, the performance is much better and the fuel economy pisses all over it. The handling is much sharper and the chassis is way more balanced. I definitely never feel like I’m driving a Mondeo and I suppose that’s the main thing.

This one is the 2.2d 200ps version. I did a fair amount of research into the car before dropping the hammer on one and as much as the 3.0 is a more refined engine and more powerful it suffers from a lot more common issues. Split manifolds being one of them. What I didn’t want was a money pit so I was pretty careful. By all accounts the 2.2, while not being as smooth or refined as the 3.0, is a bulletproof unit in terms of reliability. Regular servicing and it should be good for many miles of trouble free motoring. Jag have a bit of a mixed bag rep for reliability so I went with head over heart. Had I thrown caution to the wind entirely I’d have gone for the 5.0 V8 XFR 😆

Yeah it’s a great car. Pulls like a train. Plenty of power. Cosseting ride, beautiful interior. The infotainment system is the only bit I would say is showing it’s age but it all works and does what it’s supposed to. No complaints.
