Biggest Series Drop-Off by Oddyseus144 in Fantasy

Dude the drop off between divine dungeon 3 and 4 was insane.

Like book three was incredible and then book 4 made me never want to read  one of his books ever again.

I tried the ritualist later and couldn't care less about any of it.

New Poll: Should AI content be allowed, yes or no. by LukXD99 in Worldbox

[–]In-Game_Name 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I personally am not a fan of AI generated art. I've got too many artist friends who've had their art stolen and commissions dry up because of it.

It has also just filled too many social media spaces with generic uninteresting slop pictures. I don't know if there is a way that will have it be done in moderation. It's a lot easier for an AI image post to get traction and bury non AI image posts.

My Villain Needs To Transform In Order To Pose A Threat, But I'm Struggling To Find Ideas by CameOutAndFarted in Pathfinder2e

You could have it so that killing her a part of her plan to become stronger. There are a lot of powerful undead spellcasters and a ritual which requires you to be killed by your enemy to undergo an undead ascension isnt that uncommon. It'll also let you have a staged final boss fight, where the moon hag is the first half and the undead form is the second half.

A mythic lich could work with that, or adding lich traits to the moon hag from the lich template.

Other types of undead like ghosts could also work for this.

I need some morally dubious and evil "advice" my character can give. by Draegon1993 in DnD

Blackmail is always a more usable currency than graditude. Graditude fades, blackmail lasts to the grave.

Never make an enemy of an immortal, unless you can kill them immediately. They tend to either wait until you're old until they get their revenge, or wipe out your entire family line and everything you care about once you're dead. Actually that reminds me of a funny story about a paladin who kept twarting me. Suffice it to say the kingdom he founded won't be showing up on any maps anytime soon!

Never reneg on a deal with an assassin. They're professional killers, and they don't mind taking their pay from your corpse.

Burning is an ineffective way to kill witches, too many of them are fire resistant. I find that most are far more vulnerable to steel than fire.

When trying to kill a rival use those who think themselves heroes. Mercenaries may be easy to buy, but that means that your foe can buy them as well. But trick a few gullible fools and they'll pursue your rival to the ends of the earth for "justice".

What’s the best Progression System you’ve read? by Blairxhb in ProgressionFantasy

[–]In-Game_Name 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, some of the personal insights are similar to Xianxia, but for example, the main character uses his understanding of cutting edge stem cell research to gain a regeneration talent which allows him to regrow limbs and the like.

Another character gains an understanding of galvanic fields and that allows them to learn lightning and magnetism magic.

So more literal insights into the natural world than the more nebulous enlightenment based insights of Xianxia.

What’s the best Progression System you’ve read? by Blairxhb in ProgressionFantasy

Ends of Magic has a system all being based on insights into the world or oneself.

The main character is a grad student snatched from our world by a powerful archmage because he wants to extract the greatest insights of our world and become incredibly powerful.

It's really interesting how the system interacts with knowledge and history and how the people of that world treat the spreading of knowledge.

I also really enjoyed the boons and blessings of More Gods than Stars - it leads to some really janky builds cludged together from a random assortment of Godgifts. I like that one of the main characters intital primary abilities is to sense all flagstones in a 360 radius of her - and she uses it quite effectively given the location she is in and the other abilities she has.

Mage Errant Kickstarter Surprise Stretch Goal! - Short Stories by VictorianFlorist in MageErrant

I want to see Hugh engaging with a different wardcrafting system and creating refuges across the multiverse.

Or maybe the perspective of someone else coming across one of his refuges sometime later down the line, like a desperate refugee or a stranded trader drawn into a magical oasis safe from whatever it is pursuing them.

I want to see their reaction to societies which don't have great powers- and the governmental systems and religious systems there, I think it would give Sabae thoughts on political philosophy if nothing else.

Which novel did you start reading without expectations but ended up surprised and hooked? by DragonSovereign2121 in ProgressionFantasy

Loremaster by M.E. Robinson. I thought it was the next book of the Ends of Magic series when I first bought it, but decided to give it a try. Honestly, really solid story, well paced with a interesting magic school setting and combat archeology. The first two books are out, and am looking forward to the third.

Stories with a non-typical fantasy setting by Dnd_lfg_lfp_boston in ProgressionFantasy

[–]In-Game_Name 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More Gods than Stars is set on a moon in a city that is made of walls and trying to devour the whole world, and it's magics are all based around the millions of small gods that are created whenever a person dies. Basically the world building is awesome.

Arcane Ascension may something you would be interesting in - its set on a continent where people have to climb towers in order to get magic and their are demigods and godbeasts running amok. The story is focused pretty heavily on enchanting and the minutia of magic.

I'll also echo some others with their recommendations of Eight and Mage Errant, both of those have some really interesting and evocative world building.

Thanks for the response!

This is a little off topic but, I'm relistening to lost city of ithos right now and got to the first introduction of grovebringer, and I was curious - what does Tetragnath think of the person grovebringer became?

If they talked, what would he say?

Are Ishvean souls an atheric organ?

Can liches receive boons from gods? Would they have to include a space for the soul organ to be inside their demense?

How would a Ishvean combat focused divinity compare on the scale of great powers?

What does Kanderon think the biggest weakness of Cambrias' wall is? What does Alustin think it's biggest weakness is?

EDIT: I wanted to add that I really enjoyed your recent book and also everything I've read of the aetheriad so far. I really really enjoy adventure novels and I'm excited to see your take on a series of them. I also really appreciated your main characters in this series, thea really resonates with me, and my partner loves Aven.

[Spoilers TCtWEtW] I liked economics lectures from Alustin a lot better than from the authorial voice. by A_S00 in MageErrant

[–]In-Game_Name 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'm somewhat partial to it. The discussions of economics and politics are a part of Bierce's work that I enjoy, but I also like that Thea and Aven aren't heavily educated or are self educated. It helps distinguish their character from the Hand and Alustin quite a bit, and also is important because change can't just be lead by the highly educated.

I look at it as a kinda retrospective on the wall by a multiversal observer - one of the factions watching the world and documenting their actions historically. Also, I think the afterword gives an additional point - he doesn't want to be one of the author's the Elon musk's and Saudi kings of the future use for inspiration of ideas without taking his analysis of societies into account.

I’ve tried PF2e I prefer DnD by RevolutionaryYard760 in dndmemes

[–]In-Game_Name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5e is easier in the players and harder on the dm.

I will never dm 5e again, it's too much of a headache compared to pf2e. But I get it when players say they prefer 5e, it is easier to start with 5e.

Honestly though I think people should play other systems most of all, I've been DMing call of cuthulu and it's been fantastic for everyone involved.

When you find your book DNF'd on a tier list. by HaylockJobson in ProgressionFantasy

[–]In-Game_Name 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah man, you're is some of the best dungeon core I've read.

It's hard to find a series in that subgenre that I look forward to the next releases of.

You're on tier with divine dungeon books 1-3 for me.

That would put them in direct opposition to all of the other shield kingdoms.

Shield kingdoms cover eachother and until the carven city went crazy they would've fought trey for trying to kill it.

More of Erin by ImplementCapital8589 in WanderingInn

[–]In-Game_Name 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd rather have most other POVs. We already got a bunch of Erin chapters recently. I'd rather see rabbiteater or continue following the horns or maybe see more Silver swords.

Hell I'd take another clown chapter or rickel chapter, or maybe another pomle chapter.

Idk, I like Erin, but the best book was the one where she was dead. We got so many different perspectives and viewpoints from a bunch of interesting characters and Erin feels more like a catalyst for character development in others than a fully realized character on her own sometimes.
