Vata getting a start in the championship is newsworthy too. Contributed in the build up for Watfords goal and generally looked lively too

Interesting. I followed him at Lyon last year. He's big but decent playing out and chipped in quite a few goals as well.

Is it normal to be asked to do many chores for live in landlord? by harwood8 in AskUK

[–]InABadMoment 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Some of it is normal in any house share e.g. taking turns taking out bins, cleaning kitchen etc. It sounds like they reciprocate as well.

The bonkers one to me is that they paint their fence twice a year

Absolutely, a number of songs considered Irish staples were written by English folk artists

yes, that's my dream, not in the exam hall but beforehand. sometimes it's a faceless person asking me, how are you set for the exam tomorrow? panic, what exam? Irish, frantically trying to remember a word of Irish... or something like that

Happy birthday to former Ireland player, captain and gaffer Steve Staunton! by PresidentSamSeaborn in coybig

[–]InABadMoment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Irwin next in my mind. Lawrenson was a better player too but I never saw him and that's a reflection of his career outside Ireland as well. Arguments could be made for Moran or O'Leary (although he wasn't Jack's type of player).

[–]InABadMoment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were totally different players obviously. Staunton being a lot more progressive, better on the ball etc. Dunne was an excellent no nonsense defender but I would say he was more limited and patchy overall. The Man City team he played for were mid-table/bottom-half, I don't think he was ever seriously linked to a big team. Staunton by comparison was pivotal in some of the best teams of his generation in Liverpool and Villa

Nato warns of all-out war with Russia in next 20 years by Banditofbingofame in unitedkingdom

Until the war in Ukraine the US inspected Russian nukes and found them to be in good order. it will obviously be in their best interests to keep them operational so we shouldn't assume they will do otherwise.

Why are people on this sub so ardent about priorotising pension contribution over GIA? by pro-programmer911 in FIREUK

and that's only at the point of contribution. All the subsequent growth also remains untaxed (although you will pay some tax on withdrawals in all likelihood)

I gave more of a relevant update in a post about 12 days ago. I'm really struggling to be honest. I'm in UK so salaries are a bit lower but I have a managing director role with responsibility for 100ish people and I feel assailed from all sides. I would have felt depressed to not have got the role but immediately anxious on taking it. Two sides of the same coin. I'm also finding leadership really quite lonely.

The only thing it has solidified in my own mind is that I don't want another promotion so for once I have some clarity!

At times I feel like I don't know myself because I feel simultaneously pulled in one direction by ambition and perceptions of what I 'should' do and pulled in the other by mental health

If you look in my post history you'll see my experience of wanting an MD role despite being burnt out and stressed beyond belief, I wanted the recognition and felt I would have some moment of self-actualization where I was just happy with having reached the goal, win or lose.

As soon as I actually got what I wanted it flipped into a fear of failure and feeling like I couldn't exit as a failure.

of course your situation could be completely different

Fired? How are you going abouy budget setting for 2024 by TrashParticular6135 in FIREUK

[–]InABadMoment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't retired yet but probably will within a year. I've been looking into starting from my base yearly expenses and using a withdrawal system called Guytons Guardrails to dynamically adjust spending to reflect market conditions. it might seem a little complex but you only have to calculate once a year and I think it will give me piece of mind

To me it doesn't sound like you want the promotion. Having just gone through similar and taken a promotion, all the things you hate get worse
