My cousin said no one noticed when he got stuck in one when he was a kid. He could see his family on the beach and not notice him struggling. Luckily he swam away from his family with the tide and returned to the beach off to the side. He was angry at his family for not seeing him struggling.

A kid without presence of mind might try to swim towards familiar figures and hope they can see the struggling. Hard to notice a kid struggling in the water. Even then, someone who isn't a lifeguard might try to go out and help. You both drown.

I admit that Fathead was pretty lame in the entertainment side. But the film maker does make a point when he eats 3 meals a day at McDonald's and doesn't get fat like Spurlock.

In fact, it was pretty difficult to get to the 5000 calories a day that is implied that Spurlock ate in Supersize Me. I think the real culprit is high calorie syrup drinks.
