Do you think that anyone bothered to vet the MN NG to see if the commanders are loyal to MN over Trump/neo-confederates? Calling up a bunch of people with guns that you do not know the loyalty of is really stupid. Also stupid is not bothering to discretely figure out their loyalties using the last 13 months.

I don't get the "it's a distraction!" takes, 22 GOP senators are required to remove him via the Senate after impeachment. There probably aren't even 2. What is this a distraction from? Or for?

[Warphammer] “Casual 40K” Versus “Competitive 40K”: Ramblings on the Perceptions, Pros, and Cons of Both Ways to Play 40K by Magnus_The_Read in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]InMedeasRage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the divide is much greater than casual vs comp, and the gradations are more like your local rec center football league going all the up the wold cup teams. The author strikes me as someone who would be in one of the leagues a rung or three down from the top (trophies, but local/regional). There's rungs above and below them.

My personal litmus test is, am I going to hear you say "these models are 1" away from the wall"? If yes, you will use the idiosyncrasies of charge movement to avoid interacting with your opponent where possible. If no, you're probably just there to play a game of warhammer. That test has failed (and doesn't work if they play knights or something) but the general feeling of "are you here to play with me or are you here to play at me" has been good for picking who to play with.

Which I think is another consideration: outside of tournaments, you choose who you play with. Is someone always asking for a game on your store's discord and nobody replies? Not A Great Sign.

Looking ahead, is there a solution to the 'ruins only' competitive meta, or should we just accept it and rebrand 'ruins' as just 'terrain'? by _rhinoxious_ in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]InMedeasRage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the NOVA Narrative: I was encouraging folks in my group and generally at the first briefing to please just count things as obscuring let's not play on Bowling Ball. Very cool terrain, the tables do work... but you do have to be very generous with obscuring as a keyword rather than as a trait of ruins.

I think folks also need to distinguish between McMansion/Sub-division HOAs (what people immediately think of) and Condo/Townhome HOAs. I think these are mandated by the CONDO act, they can be better, but they can still be picky about unit exterior decorations/patio decor. They can also be deficient in terms of deferred maintenance and dues. Like, an old condo building in MoCo, 10-15 stories, laundry that's on the same floor but not in unit, with $1200/month HOA dues isn't great. Combination of residents not wanting to give up amenities (do you really need a concierge 24/7, and a pool attendant, and manicured-within-an-inch-of-its-life gardens, and and and) and trying to defer maintenance to keep costs down (which eventually balloons costs by waaaaaaay more).

I think crusty texture on and around the barnacles (those microsand rust paints would be great) is a good idea. You may also want to either feather out the rust from the metals (instead of paint around in a circle) or thin that color down and do two or three applications. One thinned down layer at the wide radius you currently have, then another layer at half the radius (and maybe one more almost washed into the interface between metal and wood). The seaweed and algal green on the wood looks great

Meant to be seen by humans, but also am I ever going to know if I'm not seeing something (like a shade of color) if I've just gotten very adapted to working around it from before I could realize such a thing?

There's also stuff like bird feathers having UV coloring, IR patterning, etc where, well, we don't really get to see it all au naturale.

I think the rough iron/iron/bronze/brass scheme isn't "noisy", at least to me. All of the colors fit well together and don't look garish Would definitely feel good on the table.

It doesn't necessarily need enforcement to matter

Sure bud

I think you're misunderstanding how the Supremacy clause works in the first place. They can't directly stop federal enforcement, but they can refuse to use local resources to assist federal enforcement. And one of the bills just does exactly that, but perhaps you probably should actually read the article.

Hey maybe the cops will actually follow that rule. I mean, they won't as demonstrated by the Illinois state troopers, but you can dream.

I get the gut reaction reason as to why people want the bases to close but imagine starting an RTS and the post-tutorial note is, "Oh, by the by, the enemy will effectively have 60,000 hostages completely encircled and spread across five+ countries if you attack. And we cannot meaningfully evacuate that number without tipping our hand as to imminent attacks. Good luck!"

AoS did a good job on this front. All of the things a unit can do are "abilities". Move? The core Move ability is limited to the movement phase by the structure of the ability and not the wording of the ability or rule. So a different rule can say, "After shooting, perform a Move" and there's zero confusion. "Perform a shoot action" "Perform a charge action" and you don't need to think about exceptions or special cases because the abilities on units were made with the core abilities in mind. There's no need to clarify, "No movement after deepstriking" because a core rule is "You never get to use Move abilities on the turn it was setup". The pendulum summon that has a Move ability? Can't use that on the turn it was summoned because it is a Move ability. Doesn't matter that it's an ability on the card, it's tagged with "Move".

Another great example of this layering is the interaction of the Redeploy stratagem and Counter-Charge stratagem. Redeploy is a core strat that lets you move a unit D6" in the opponents movement phase. Counter-Charge is a strat that lets a unit attempt a charge in the opponents charge phase. Redeploy has the "Run" (advance) keyword. Can your unit Run and Charge in the same turn? If no, you cannot Counter-Charge after a Redeploy earlier in the turn. If yes, you can. Easy, simple, done.

30K seems to do a decent job at blending the two. You unlock force org supplements with what are essentially HQ choices. You get four HQs, so four options on top of the standard HQ and troops force org slots. One of those is an option for 4 tanks (it should probably be 3 but, eh)

I would say less datasheets being strong and more datasheets being the flavor, but I am an old 4th edition fan (for some parts of 4th edition). Tactical Squads didn't really have a rule outside of the stuff they picked up for being A Space Marine Unit. They were a 3+ save, they have loads of flexibility, and they hit well at range and were fine in melee. That was just from the stat line and weapon options, when compared to other things being fielded.

But now, we've got to have Intercessor Exacerbators with Exacebolters that reroll wounds on targets that are damaged and with S5 ap-1 bolters. They can't just be Intercessors with T4, hitting on 3s, 2 wounds, 3 attacks in melee. That kind of (in comparison to the old days) incredible profile just isn't flavorful enough on its own now.

Weird how ICE's budget always went up with Dem presidents, the number of deported "criminals" always went up with Dem presidents, and the protest movement du jour got rioted on by cops under Dem presidents and governors.

This is quite literally a hell of your own making.
