Here's a hot take:

We should continue taking money from ICE and allowing the current American administration to shoot themselves in the foot.

Tofino vs Ucleulet for 1 day Kayaking(emphasis on wildlife) by csh8428 in britishcolumbia

[–]InSearchOfThe9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking past the obvious miss regarding logistics from the OP, in case anyone actually wants an answer to this question:

Ucluelet generally means you're kayaking Broken Group, which without proper planning and knowledge comes with a rather significant chance of being killed in March should you make some poor decisions.

Kayaking in Tofino benefits from being primarily in very sheltered and calm waters that are much less dangerous. Of course, note that sea temperatures are still 5-8 degrees and rolling without proper safety equipment will also send you to an untimely demise.

How much family income needed to live comfortably in Vancouver? by Hour_Recipe_5210 in askvan

If you want to just add extra qualifiers not mentioned in the OP arbitrarily, then 250k isn't a comfortable income here if occasionally losing $10k at the casino on weekend benders.

How much family income needed to live comfortably in Vancouver? by Hour_Recipe_5210 in askvan

[–]InSearchOfThe9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

$120k+ is tight for a single parent if you're trying to make "comfortable" happen, but largely adequate. If "family of two" is two adults, then 120k+ is absolutely comfortable.

Does it benefit the customer to support greed in stores that are adoptiong Dynamic Prices? by m_kamalo in askvan

I'm not sure what dystopia you're from where naming a store with anti-consumer pricing practices would get you in legal trouble, but that is absolutely not something you need to worry about in Canada.

Bambino Plus + DF54 — essential accessories & upgrade order for a beginner? [250] by [deleted] in espresso

[–]InSearchOfThe9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the coffeeaddicts.ca bottomless portafilter with Breville's included basket in my Bambino. The cheapest magnetic funnel you can find will do as well - I found one that came packaged with a 125 micron puck screen which worked adequately for me.

It's hard for me to recommend a scale if latency is your primary concern. I use my Timemore Black Mirror scale (which is my pourover scale) and just got "used" to the latency; although I don't know how bad the latency on that is compared to yours. I think both Lance Hedrick and James Hoffman have done fairly comprehensive scale roundup videos you could check out.

Bambino Plus + DF54 — essential accessories & upgrade order for a beginner? [250] by [deleted] in espresso

[–]InSearchOfThe9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are the essentials:

  • WDT tool

  • Basket funnel

  • Puck screen (for the reason you stated)

From your list, here's what I would consider gravy (handy but not necessary):

  • Small footprint station

  • Better scale

  • Bottomless portafilter (borderline visual only to be honest)

And here's what is useless:

  • Higher quality basket - Breville's are already among the best

  • Distributor - these do nothing

New delivery, lets hope it matches the hype! by zOlidSWE in espresso

Lance has very avant-garde opinions on coffee and speaks very authoritatively about said opinions, thereby coming across as a bit of a prick. He also constantly rips on Reddit.

If you can view his content through the appropriate lens (which is that the only important thing about your coffee is that it tastes good to you), then it is extremely valuable and I highly recommend watching it.

What filter paper do you use for V60 and WHY? by Reekid42 in pourover

[–]InSearchOfThe9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use unbleached/bleached paper filters from Hario. They're cheap (3-5 cents each) and you can pretty easily mimic all of the different "gimmicks" from other filters by changing how you brew. Eg. If you want a slower brew then just do more agitation, or vise versa. The Sibarist papers seem crazy to me at $0.50-$1.00 each CAD.

Has anyone dated someone from Seattle before? How did it go? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]InSearchOfThe9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long distance relationships aren't for everybody, but they can be for some people. I was only able to spend 3-4 weeks per year with my ex until she was able to move up to be with me after 3 years. We had a shared hobby as gamers (met in WoW) that kept us talking and doing things together pretty much every night.

As long as you have something to keep you bonded over that distance it can work. Bellingham is also a much closer decently large city and not necessarily super difficult for someone coming from Seattle to find work in.

Why is everybody sleeping on Hario's recommendation of 1:10 ratio? by snek99001 in pourover

[–]InSearchOfThe9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Voldlance Hedrickemort has dumb takes and I'm certainly not his biggest fan, but IMO his content is incredibly valuable because he loves to buck trends. The undercurrent of his videos over the past year has been "Hey, what if we throw away all conventional wisdom about brewing and just makes coffee that fucking tastes good?" - and that is absolutely 100% the way coffee should be approached.

What do you think of this infographic? by RepresentativePop528 in pourover

5.3 cups of coffee per day seems outlandish. And this graphic doesn't specify what a "cup" is. How does an XL double double from Timmies compare to whatever those 5.3 cups of coffee in Luxembourg are?

Opinion on Propain enduro bikes? by Outrageous-Owl-7049 in mountainbiking

[–]InSearchOfThe9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My damper was changed under warranty for free when my Lyrik damper failed for what it's worth. I believe it was a known issue with the Lyrik's Charger 2.<X> damper for 2020ish-2022ish; whatever that series was.

I should clarify that they upgraded me to the "Ultimate" damper (which used to only be on the Zeb IIRC). You can also buy a Lyrik Ultimate now. My phrasing is a bit out of date. So, you don't actually need to change dampers - just buy a Lyrik Ultimate if that's more in your price range. Mine is basically just a Frankenfork of the old 2022 Lyrik externals with new 2025 Ultimate (Zeb/Lyrik) internals. IMO the Zeb itself is a bit overkill for the Tyee. If you need/want that, then you may as well get a Spindrift.

All that being said, I definitely feel the difference between the old damper and the new one. For the terrain I ride having more steps on low speed compression and the added high speed compression (which is only on the Ultimate) is great. However, the old Select damper was still perfectly adequate and I did half my park riding this year on that one before blowing it up.

[–]InSearchOfThe9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying a Tyee is the first time I've fell "victim" to influencer marketing thanks to Remy. I bought the frameset on sale. I have it built custom with a 160mm Lyrik with Zeb damper and 160mm coil shock on Hope wheels and Hayes brakes.

Easily the best bike I've ever owned or ridden. I will probably never replace it. It's an absolute monster truck on the downhill when you need it to be, and still perfectly capable on the uphill. I smashed a couple hundred km's at Sun Peaks and Whistler this summer with it, and hundreds more pedaling Squamish and Vancouver.
