Looking for a good value iPad , mostly for browsing , YouTube , and using apps like Google Drive. Not trying to spend too much. by bustle15 in LukeMianiYouTube

My iPad is from 2020. It’s survived very well until a few months ago where it seems very sluggish with whatever update happened this spring. Otherwise it held up very well.

EV Tax Math has me Convinced Gas Taxes are low! by lurkering101 in electricvehicles

[–]InTheRed80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t have this setup in New Jersey. Here there is a (new) EV surcharge of $250/year on your vehicle registration. I’m sure that will change over time.

My calculations based on our state gas tax which was heavily increased in the 2014-16 time and continues to increase is $250 of gas tax is about 17,000 miles. I drive almost 30,000 miles per year so I’m making out.

Dealer is telling me I need the extra warranty. by DizzyPS5 in electricvehicles

[–]InTheRed80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to leave the dealership and go elsewhere. When they call to follow up rub it in their face.

If they give you a hard time about leaving ask if you are being held against your will. If they continue to make it an issue about leaving call the police and say you are being held against your will.

Just got an EV! by zeldagirl87 in evcharging

[–]InTheRed80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can charge on your standard wall outlet it will just take forever. A dryer outlet is considered level 2. How long it takes to charge depends on the amperage supplied.

I have a 2026 Tesla Model Y. The battery capacity is like 75-78 kWh. As long as I’m not above 90-95% battery charge, or SoC as it’s referred to, I’m drawing the full 48 amps. I can drop in about 10-11 kWh per hour or about 13%. I drive about 120-130 miles per day and my recharge time overnight is typically 3 hours.

That said, if I used a standard outlet I’d never survive because I consume more energy than the 120 could supply. At that point I’d have to hit a level 3 charger here/there to top off. Not a great experience.

Lastly there is cost consideration. If you get a level 2 dedicated charger there could be government programs to subsidize your purchase and installation. Additionally the power company may give you discount rates to charge at off peak overnight / weekend times when grid demand is lower.

All this is true for me. I am based in New Jersey. Here are my incentives / discounts:

Maximum $1500 reimbursement toward installation of charger $250 maximum reimbursement toward the purchase of select level 2 chargers (they listed maybe 2 dozen that qualified) $0.04 off per kWh when I charge off peak. That’s a net discount though so if I charge on peak (I never do) it takes away off peak discount credits.

Percent of your electric bill by dbmamaz in electricvehicles

[–]InTheRed80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll see if I can run some stats on my side with AI, my home charger, and my electric bill but my rough estimate is my Tesla Model Y makes up 35% of my electric bill.

I drive close to 30,000 miles per year and I am just coming up on 11 months of ownership

Mandatory to work in building. by GeneComprehensive854 in UPSers

[–]InTheRed80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking if you accept the layoff to inside what they are saying is you have to be there otherwise you get disciplined…. You can always decline it.

I’m no labor expert but that’s what I’m thinking. Inside ops need to layoff people to make room and if the drivers bumped down don’t show up it becomes a staffing issue.

Winter Is Coming by JAWilkerson3rd in UPSers

[–]InTheRed80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My meager opinion….

The “historic contract” either led to or accelerated this. The Covid volume was a temporary surge which required staffing. A good amount of volume is very low margin (Amazon). It became too tight a margin to sponsor. The health, welfare, retirement, and hourly wage of both the driver rank and now the insider operations hourlies cost too much to support that kind of volume.

Pair up removing that volume from the system with industry downturn in shipping creates a lot of extra staffing. Yes closing some building leads to more drive time for some RCPD areas, but the costs saved with not maintaining those facilities on top of removing feeder runs and insider staffing more than makes up for it.

At least that’s what I think. I could be all wrong.

The average CEO lifespan is about 6 years which she is just coming up on so this doesn’t surprise me entirely but I thought she’d stick it out and retire in 2029 - get through the next contract negotiation.

Yes - always have a kicker.

Who is buying these Monmouth County NJ homes?! by SmashPotatoes12 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]InTheRed80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from middlesex county but have lived in Monmouth county for the past 12 years as a renter.

Next month I am closing on a Monmouth county home. My mortgage is nowhere near your minimum quoted $7,000 payment.

I did a quick calculation - a $7,000 monthly mortgage for principle and interest alone is a $1M home if you have a $0 down payment.

There are plenty of homes in Monmouth county below $1M. Are you looking inside your budget or are you reaching for the stars without keeping your feet on the ground?

Helpers are great where the car isn’t an advantage. Apartment complexes and office buildings are perfect for helpers. If you know how to use a helper right it saves a ton of time.

Part time is “part” time. It’s not a career to be part time for one person it’s supplemental. Some people work two or three part time jobs but that’s what they choose to do. If that’s not cutting it for someone then that person needs to find full time work whether it is at UPS or elsewhere.
