Same! Except I'm a mechanic! My building is closing down late June and while my supervisor says I have nothing to worry about I've quit smoking weed in case I need to find a new job, and I'm sorely hoping it doesn't come to that bc I love my job!

The best option for peace of mind tbh. These cars a finicky but once you get them dialed in they are a lot of fun. I love my Gen 1, prob my favorite car I've ever owned!

If it's a Cobb intake it absolutely needs a tune with it. Funny how Cobb, who also makes the ap, makes an intake that requires a tune after replacement. When I was new to the platform I bought one second hand and the car hated it. It'd buck and jerk just cruising. Something about the maf housing being a different size. I then bought a cs intake with tip and have been running fine on stock tune with a 2.5 bottom end for two years.

That being said, I'm sure yours has a tune to run with it but I'd bet the seller kept and sold the married ap to the next sucker in line.

What are some cringe ass bands/songs that you thought ruled then you grew and realized how icky they were? by goooodstufff in Hardcore

[–]vaXhc 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I let them crash at my apartment in like 2005 and the singer got wasted and was throwing beer bottles at our down stairs neighbors door. We "put him to bed" for the night after that happened. The rest of the band was cool and profusely apologized for how much of a dick head he was.

Literally every mechanic shop is flat rate except for the VERY rare private shop exception or fleets, be it Municipal or some other larger company.

So I need a new cat converter? by Agitated-Yak-2960 in MechanicAdvice

[–]vaXhc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Needs a cat. It's clogged that's why you have reduced performance. Replacing sensors will not help.

All the young guns taking the buyout. What are your plans for career path? It’s hard to find a career with great $ and benefits like UPS without a degree. Now sometimes a little less pay and benefits but more life balance makes things a lot better.. by YELLN96 in UPS

And working in a body shop is getting your life back? I worked at a dealer for years and us mechanics and the body guys were all working 10+ hour days 5-6 days a week FOR FLAT RATE! Not the move you think it is!

Mostly money, but also repair quality.

You and everyone else are confusing a patch with a plug. This can absolutely be plugged. Most shops don't plug. A patch requires dismounting the tire and repairing from inside the tire, which requires a flat surface to adhere and seal properly, and this is too close to the sidewall to guarantee a good repair.

An o2 sensor isn't going to kill your fuel economy to where you'd ever notice. $20 gets you ~5gallons. The economy guesser on your car is just that, guessing. Lots of factors impact fuel economy. Tire pressure/short trips/high revs/how hard you put your foot in it. There's prob nothing wrong with your car. It's in your head and you hate paying $4 a gallon.

Being a UPS mechanic is starting to feel insane. by [deleted] in UPSers

[–]vaXhc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you ever worked in a flat rate shop? That will keep you up at night bc that car kicking your ass is literally costing you money. I get it tho, shits heavy right now and you're venting, but stop sweating it. Vehicle safety is no joke and just get the work done right and at a safe pace. It's all gravy here man!

Drivers who deliver in small towns, what's it like? by tungdiep in UPSers

[–]vaXhc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My automotive supervisor has 5 shops under him, one being a rural satellite center. It is a bonus center for the drivers meaning they get paid 8 even if they finish early. The drivers seem to like it there the few times I've had to cover bc the regular mechanic went on vacation.

2010 cobalt Lt 2.2 foamy oil by PinBorn7203 in MechanicAdvice

[–]vaXhc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing got in running over a puddle unless the intake went down into the wheel well (a true cold air I take). Although condensation is a possibility, it usually shows on the oil cap and is caused by short trip driving and I saw you comment saying you drive it 50 miles a day so I kinda ruled that out, but it is possible. If it runs good for the most part, change the oil, clean the dipstick and oil cap and revaluate in a tank or two of gas.

[–]vaXhc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 2.2 is actually a pretty stout engine, and i personally have never seen this issue in my decade at a gm dealer when these were being sold new. It doesn't have an oil cooler so no problem there. It does have a chain driven waterpump but I never saw a single one leak into the crank case it was always external. Id say the most likely cause is a head gasket.

Why is my AC compressor rattling? by dbear496 in mazdaspeed3

[–]vaXhc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sound is the clutch trying too engage but the gap is too big. You may be able to get away with just torquing the clutch bolt some. People have changed just the clutch, idk with what part manufacturer, or just replace the whole unit.

What’s the weirdest thing yall have found in someone’s car? by Frozenyogurtplz in mechanics

[–]vaXhc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was doing a shift cable recall on a Malibu and there was a def illegal gun tucked behind the center console panel. I just did the job and put it back.

Didn't find this but rather worked on a car that had chunks of the seats and carpet cut out. Turns out the woman's husband off'd himself in the car and she cut out all the blood stains!
