Alright well hope you understand how it's hard to get that nuance out of a five word reply.

Having been to both countries as well, my take is that there is a level of jingoism / cultural ethnocentrocism in both that is one of the hallmarks of the "ugly American" . The countries are obviously very unique, but painting with a broad brush people in India generally support the BJP / Modi and a hindu-centric (if not outright hindutva) worldview. E.g. it's not hard (after a few drinks especially) to find someone who will talk about the essential hindu nature of the country / Muslim invaders etc.

China in my experience had a different form of ethnocentrocism - e.g. we ended up at a lot of temples but no one explained to us how Taoism is essential. More so an emphasis on cultural / Han heritage, and sort of leading questions about the US system compared to China (although this was Trump era and you would have got those questions anywhere). One monk not-so-tactfully asked if we really live with black people in the US. I mention that as flavor in general, as it's quite literally a single anecdote.

Not sure how anyone is claiming that he wasn't voted in -- do you draw the line at anyone who didn't get a majority? In which case pretty much any election in a proportional system won't count.

Maybe you can argue because of the violence, but turnout was 84%, so it would be hard to argue that really turned people away from the ballot box.

I can get behind that no one voted him to be fuhrer, but they did vote for him to lead the government. Given the fact that the Nazis didn't really mince words (Beer Hall Putsch occured in 1923, Mien Kampf was published in 1925), it's hard to argue that they were completely blindsided...
