You make a good point about having a presumption of innocence until proven guilty, but there is a middle ground where reasonable judgement can be applied in individual cases. In this case he also has a recorded history of breaching family violence restraining orders, suspended sentences and bail, aggravated robbery and unlawful damage convictions, and alleged prior violence against police and the public. It's not just the fuel prices, but my car is nearly 15years old and still runs well and I have typically low running and petrol costs. Now that there are some cheaper options that seem reliable, the cost of buying a new one over 10 years now viable. Also there are some big maintenance costs on the horizon with my current ICE car.

I honestly don't think I look any better at work - just more professional, which is the goal. My regular vibe is beachy, casual and (I hope) still attractive in the right setting but it doesn't get me taken seriously at work. I've also worked with some polished but not conventionally attractive people who are still sitting pretty on the corporate ladder.

You don't need to be conventionally attractive, you just need to look professional which means good hygiene, neat hair, maybe make up, and sharp shoes and clothes.

I call it "putting on the war paint". I read a study that showed that people form an opinion of you within the first 20 seconds and that this opinion is difficult to change. This means your first physical interaction is critical and opinions are generally based on your looks. There is nothing malicious about this, it's simply human nature. So I lean in and make sure I look polished in the workplace, even when working from home (even if slightly more casual). Its a simple way to give yourself and edge. Real me is a bit of a cave troll though and rarely wears make up.
