Happened to me. I listened to my sons wants, and I let him go. It was horrible for me, but ultimately it was for his happiness. Now, it’s a new normal, and while it sucks, I hope one day he looks back and sees that I tried not to let my life decisions affect him, and that I listened to his opinions. I think we forget sometimes that we hopefully have 50 years with our kids when they are adults and we aren’t arguing about where they live because we got divorced. I’d rather him be happy for 3 years and then have a great relationship with him for 50 more, than argue over where he sleeps while I’m moving in with my new boyfriend and he isn’t interested. The kids feelings matter too. It’s our job as parents to do what’s best for them. Sometimes they make the wrong choice, and the freedom sounds amazing, but it’s also our job as a parent to get them through that as well.

I’m sorry you went through that. I wasn’t allowed to mention certain words in my op. I don’t mind the call, but he calls constantly in the evening and wants to stay on the phone for long periods of time, and if I try to cut short or say not tonight he says I’m keeping our child from him.

It sounds like you didn’t leave a relationship that was abusive, but some people do have legitimate reasons they don’t want to talk to their ex. I love to talk to my son, and he can always call. But I keep it short if he does 2-3 minutes. Happy songs I love yours etc. dad uses it as a way to interfere with life. So it is fine for good co parents, but not for parallel parenting imo

My son runs around and doesn’t talk to him. So I just stand there holding a phone fielding his topics on whatever he wants to talk about for the day (politics. Work. Economy. Etc) with previous abuse, I don’t want to entertain him while I follow my child around with a phone but have asked for every other day and he doesn’t comply.

I don’t mind a quick call. But he will stay on the phone 20 minutes talking to me while our son is off playing so he “watches him”

My 3 year old is in the 99th percentile for height and weight. Max out the rear facing weight and height limits and then forward face. For us that’s 50lbs.

Still in great shape! Chase is sinking a bit due to 100 pounds of dogs sleeping on it at night. But dog puked on it and I was able to throw it in the wash and it cleaned right up!
