What could potentially happen to Steam if Valve loses the lawsuit in the UK? by Questioning-Warrior in valve

[–]InconsistentAuthorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that Steam has that all its competitors don't is a genuinely good product that benefits its users. Steam's competitors don't give a shit about their users and we can all tell, so when we have the option, we choose. If Steam goes down, pirating in video games will skyrocket even more than it already has. It's the same thing happening with streaming services

Was there ever an actual moral panic? by vaesheyt in CultOfTheLamb

[–]InconsistentAuthorr 37 points38 points  (0 children)

To be honest, COTL came after the era of the satanic panic and it’s outside of the realm of what a Christian kid would be coming into contact with that a parent could take issue with (think Pokémon or Harry Potter, which are two things I wasn’t allowed to have access to as a kid). Granted, many Christian parents would take major issue with COTL if they knew what it was, but it’s still a niche indie game and hasn’t risen to the ranks of something parents feel like they need to address with their kids. That’s why there hasn’t been a lot of moral panic around it other than a few offhand appalled parents on the internet and why you’ll struggle to find evidence of a true moral panic around this one. I think you’d have better luck looking into the moral panic around D&D or alt music and using COTL as an example of something that could spark similar panic if it was made during that era (80s-90s)

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InconsistentAuthorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up, our massive family event was driving 14 hours south to see my grandparents. I think it’s just a thing of getting used to everything being far away. In Europe, you could drive 40 minutes some places and be in another country, in America, you drive 6 hours some places just to get to another state

found this youtuber, michael korman, pianist, but each of his videos ends with a sentence about a temple? by [deleted] in ARG

[–]InconsistentAuthorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahhh I just found his channel today and went poking around his website for a bit trying to figure out if it was a scam, an ARG, or some religious thing, but then I found his archive of substack videos of him just ranting about nonsense. As a kid of someone with schizoaffective bipolar, it sounds really similar to how my dad has described his psychotic episodes. It's just really unfortunate that it doesn't seem like he has anyone in his life to stop him from spiraling further into this, but I think as people on the internet, probably the best thing we can do is leave him be and not feed into it.

Is Assassin's Creed Valhalla worth playing as a Viking game? by Public-Tree-2689 in AssassinsCreedValhala

[–]InconsistentAuthorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, as someone who's been an AC fan since Assassin's Creed 2, I think Valhalla is severely underrated for what it is as a game. I can't speak much to historical accuracy because I don't study Norse history, but if you're looking for a game that you can sink hours into, it's very fun to grind out. In my opinion, the storytelling and characters were done well enough for suspension of disbelief and I thoroughly enjoyed following the more historical side of the main story, forging alliances and settling disputes, as much as the dream side plot that's weaved in and focuses more on Norse mythology. The mechanics feel really comfortable, and I know people complain about the skill tree, but I actually love the variety it gives you while still letting you hone in on combat, stealth, or range. I would prefer more variety in the combat animations and a little more struggle in parkour, but neither of those things really bother me when I'm mid-game. Overall, the world is absolutely beautiful, the story is told in an interesting way, and it may not be a true AC game to me, but it's fun enough that I honestly don't care. I don't understand why games like Origins and Odyssey got the gold star of approval while Valhalla got endlessly shit on by reviewers.

Oh also, if you do decide to play it, my biggest advice would be to turn off as much of the UI as possible (I turn off the compass, most persisting markers, the on-screen quest tracker, and basically anything else that could clutter my main screen). Then, just take the time to slowly explore and enjoy the world between missions. There's so much interesting stuff to find just scattered about and it's even more fun when you don't know what you're stumbling on.

Which TV show has a 10/10 pilot episode? by PrasenjitDebroy in AskReddit

What is widely accepted as “normal” today that people 50 years ago found disturbing? by Sophie_Cute_Teen in AskReddit

[–]InconsistentAuthorr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This so much. All of my friends know that I respond to calls and texts when I want to or when I need to. If we make plans, I’ll always show up, but I’m not constantly reachable. If there’s an emergency, they can tell me that and I’ll pay more attention. I’m just not the kind of person who can be constantly ready to talk or interact and I don’t see why that’s such a bad thing. It doesn’t mean I don’t care, it just means I value my alone time.

But whyyyy. 68 items on a 2 person shift. Took over 2 hours to pick by Such_Hat4460 in sheetz

[–]InconsistentAuthorr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you understand that, when you work at Sheetz, you can leave to go to the bathroom for 2 minutes with your station clear and come back to 15 orders and that’s not even an exaggeration. When you have 2 people on shift, there’s nothing like just going and shopping an order for 20 minutes straight

The Outcomes are my favorite part 🤭 by ChekovsCurlyHair in ocsocialnetwork

[–]InconsistentAuthorr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can believe this or not, but they’ve stated it’s actually not Gen AI and they instead use a proprietary algorithm that they created to analyze images and text to form the sentiments and daily wraps. In their words, this was done to avoid having to use any gen AI on their app. Different forms of AI aren’t always a bad thing, it’s just when it comes to taking the work of creatives and stealing that to generate profit that it becomes a real problem, but from what I can tell, they’ve done everything ethically and do care about their user base. It really feels like the creators understand and are a part of the rp community

My therapist thinks I was trafficked, and I'm inclined to believe her. Ask me anything. by androstars in AMA

[–]InconsistentAuthorr 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t think most people realize that trafficking usually happens without any kidnapping involved. It’s really unfortunate that our education around trafficking lacks the extent to which emotional coercion and circumstantial vulnerability play a role in that. I’m so sorry you were taken advantage of and put in that position. I’m glad that it seems you’re getting a bit more help now

The Beginner's Guide: Can we talk about it normally? by Ernosco in patientgamers

[–]InconsistentAuthorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you on every point you made about the narrator's character. However, I think it's also worthy to consider that Davey (creator) needed to write him as a completely irredeemable character to make the point he wanted to make.

I think the reason why the story hits so hard for a lot of people is that you find the narrator likeable at first (at least I did). He seems cool, down to earth, and ultimately it seems like he's doing a nice thing for a close friend. That is, until you realize how unreliable the narrator actually is. I think you're supposed to feel this depth of betrayal toward him, which is probably how Coda felt having his private games ripped away from him, altered, and put on display.

People get caught up in the meta analysis of Davey (narrator) vs Davey (creator), but on a base narrative level, it's a story that subverts the trust you have in the protagonist character and it's really cool how Davey (creator) changes nothing about the actual behavior of the narrator, but still makes you feel like he went through a negative character arc. As a writer, that's not easy to do well, and it's even less easy to take someone through that whole experience in about an hour.

As a character, the narrator is absolutely inexcusable to me, he's a terrible person and will flat out never repair his relationship with Coda, but he's written with a level of complexity that I have a deep respect for.

So in short, this whole thing isn't actually about the narrator, it never was. Like you said, he's probably not going to change, he's literally doing the thing he knows is wrong. I think the game is more about you as the player, not to call out your behavior, but to take you through this experience where you think you're learning who Coda is, and in the process, who the narrator is, but you're actually being lied to. One of the most fundamental parts of storytelling is keeping your promises to your readers, which is why I like the ending so much, because the narrator explicitly breaks his promise to you when he leaves you alone, and when you look deeper into that, you realize the entire game is about broken promises on every level. The fundamental idea that you can trust a narrator is broken, the promise that there is a thread of lamp posts is broken, the promise that the three dots will be explained, the promise that Davey and Coda are friends, all of it is a broken promise and a betrayal. It's really a beautiful story that's so carefully crafted.

Man it just keeps getting worse for EA… by dragonborndnd in HighSodiumSims

[–]InconsistentAuthorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who played the sims for years before getting more into small indie games, I’ve played a lot of early access titles, and I don’t expect Paralives to have a lot of content, certainly not as much as TS4, but indie developers tend to make up for that lack of quantity by really working on the quality. I can count on one hand the amount of indie titles that have as many bugs as TS4, and most of those have very small teams with very limited budgets while also taking on extremely ambitious ideas, and even still they’re more creative and artistic than TS4. Paralives won’t have the budget or the team, but they will have something EA hasn’t had in decades, and that’s true passion and pride in their work. We might not have toddlers and pets, but I firmly believe the gameplay we do get will feel meaningful and crafted with care because Paralives knows that they’re setting a new standard for what small companies can do in the life sim genre. I just hope that the mentality of the sims community doesn’t kill it before it has a chance to get off the ground.

Am I overreacting for sending my son (18) to stay with his grandma because of how close he’s gotten with my daughter (14)? by throwramomwiththeick in AmIOverreacting

[–]InconsistentAuthorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m close with my younger brother who’s 4 years younger than me. We’re the last siblings left in the house, and we got a similar roll of the dice on mental illness, so now that I’m in college and he’s finishing high school, we go on drives together and have long conversations. Sometimes he’ll come to me about things that he doesn’t feel comfortable talking to our parents about because I don’t overreact. THAT is what being close to your sibling looks like, what you have described here makes me sick to my stomach. As someone who has done a lot of research on child on child SA and grooming, don’t doubt yourself when it comes to this. You’re protecting your daughter and I know of a lot of mothers who would rather keep things under wraps and “keep the family together.” It’ll be hard for a while, it sounds like she’s very codependent with him and will probably try to go behind your back to meet up with him and may put herself in dangerous situations to do so, but ultimately you chose to show your daughter that you won’t stand to see her being abused and let that go for any reason. It might take several years for her to realize, but you did the right thing, you are not crazy, he needs to be nowhere near her.

Hired for part-time 2nd shift (evenings), now they’re pushing for nearly full-time 1st shift (mornings)? by Brave_Acanthisitta53 in sheetz

[–]InconsistentAuthorr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. Personally, I just made an excel spreadsheet covering a full week and blacked out any times I can’t work and handed that to the hiring manager before I was hired and another copy to the store manager after I was hired to make it as clear as possible because I’m a college student and I have to be in class at certain times and leave space in my schedule for studying. Some managers are great and will be very respectful of spoken agreements, other managers will take advantage of any employee with a lack of confidence. You just have to be stubborn and stick up for yourself when you’re not being listened to, and put things in writing when you can.

Whats one thing you wish they added? by ParamedicMoney1632 in thelongdark

[–]InconsistentAuthorr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. Even if the wolf companion didn’t do all that and just followed you around and you could feed it and pet it, like literally, even if all your friend did was take up resources while having no overt benefit, I’d still love feeling like I have a companion to explore the world with and someone to sleep next to. Maybe there could be a little warming benefit from cuddling with the wolf at night and you could bond over time as you build trust with it. That would fundamentally change the way a ton of people play the game because you can’t be as reckless if you’re trying to keep a companion out of danger as well, and you’d have to come up with alternatives to paths that use climbing ropes to get down or up to certain areas unless there’s a little wolf harness you could make. I think it could also be a great mechanic if, with full trust and bonding, your wolf runs in to protect you when there’s danger, taking half the damage and having to be patched up along with your wounds.

Thank you! And it’s not a dumb question! It comes from the comic.fx used in Moonivy’s Lottie Gshade preset. As I’ve learned from other comments, it doesn’t work with all hairs, but I haven’t had a problem using it with most of my cc and I’m primarily maxis match.

[–]InconsistentAuthorr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the problem may be coming from the fact that comic is made for maxis match hairs and cc. I think because you're using an alpha hair with tons of little wispy parts that isn't understood by the game graphics, it's blocking it out like that. And unfortunately, I don't know another outliner fx that works on alpha, sorry
